LA’s Blake Griffin put the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 on the map with his earth-shattering PE and now it’s New York’s turn to represent for Nike Basketball’s newest top-flight design. The Hyperdunk 2011 ‘Battle of the Boroughs’ will see a Queens team in Mets colors take on a Bronx squad in Yankees colors as part of their release, though by the time of tip-off on Saturday, these might be sold out from their limited stockists. This Saturday, Nike Basketball will host an inter-borough showdown between Queens and the Bronx as part of the Battle of the Boroughs event. The players representing each borough will be wearing the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 ‘Battle of the Boroughs’ in some familiar colorways that we might not instantly associate with hooping. The Queens colorway of the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 features a New York Mets-inspired tonal orange upper with varsity royal and white accents with ‘Queens’ printed on the tongue, while the Bronx will be donned in – you guessed it – light grey and navy blue. Sometimes it takes an earth-shattering colorway to make a great shoe irresistible. Besides the obvious high-performance value, the Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 also has that streetwear appeal, and thanks to colorways like the tonal volt and ‘Think Pink‘ varieties, the Hyperdunk 2011 is definitely a rockable shoe. However, it was that Blake Griffin PE from the 2011 NBA All-Star Game (well, originally intended for the game) that had us week in the knees, and to help kick off the launch of the Zoom Hyperdunk 2011, Nike Basketball will release these beauties for retail. With August right around the corner, the latest release in the futuristic Hyperdunk series is almost here. This updated version of the quintessential retro sneaker, the Dunk, has been making waves since its 2008 debut. The Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 promises to turn heads as well, with a handful of killer colorways in store for the upcoming debut. Tonal colorways appear to be quite popular for the soon-to-release Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011. Those five Supreme versions as well as the tonal ‘Think Pink’ received some warm overall reception from our readers, but it’s this tonal volt variety, slated to drop in August (other Asian retailers have begun to release them), truly brings up the electricity by another notch. The vivid volt hue provides an immense spark, but the white solid outsole provides a touch of balance and the metallic silver swoosh throws in a nice pop of contrast. A ‘tennis ball’ nickname may not fit since these don’t have a suede upper, but it’s not like these need any more notice. he Nike Hyperdunk series has been among the most popular choices for NBA players since its debut in 2008 when Kobe Bryant was the first to wear the groundbreaking Flywire-reinforced design. Kobe rocked the OG Hyperdunks in the NBA regular seasons sandwiching his contribution to the USAB Olympic gold medal team in 2008 but then departed for his own revolutionary design, leaving the Hyperdunk without a specific signature athlete for a few years.
But then LA Clippers rookie sensation Blake Griffin came along and dunked over a Kia, and now we’re looking at one of the single most significant colorways in the entire series’ history, Griffin’s Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 player exclusive. This earthquake-detailed perfect ’10.0′ comes in a blistering red shade that reveals its crackly texture under the right light, though the same texture always wraps the heel counter and gives way to a unique speckle on the midsole. This seems fitting as the model is now compelling from every literal and figurative angle, but only 30 pairs have popped up on NikeHK’s Skinner Box-like landing page this week; will we get a chance to finish off a similar oop thanks to an assist from US retailers? Sneaker News just alerted you to the availability of the ‘Think Pink’ LeBron Soldier V, its Pinkfire Light shade the third in the series after Pinkfire II made the ‘Think Pink’ Hyperdunk 2010 into more of a metallic torch than a flower with which its name is similar. The Nike Hyperdunk 2011 pictured above isn’t a clear WBCA-affiliated release (note the lack of ribbon insignia), but it does indeed seem to reprise the metallic pink shade that made the HD2010s so impressive. Time will tell whether these are a WMNS release or done in mens sizes, but you can click through to see if you like them right now. Blake Griffin was chosen as the prime representative of the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011, leading a group of next-gen big-men that sport an uncanny athleticism paired with their gargantuan size. This upcoming Purple/Grey/Silver colorway would be a nice fit for Sacramento Kings up-and-comer DeMarcus Cousins, who sported the Nike Hyperfuse and Air Max Fly By for most of last season. Combining two regal tones of purple (Club and Imperial) and set off with cool grey midsoles and a flashy metallic silver swoosh, this upcoming Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 Supreme features upgraded design and tech elements like the webbed TPU overlay at the toe and forefoot and (groan) a $140 price-tag.
