Team USA vs. Dominican Republic

team usa vs dominican republic Team USA vs. Dominican Republic

Could this year’s USA Olympic men’s basketball team beat the 1992 Dream Team? Of course we’ll never get final word on that impossible but question but for what it’s worth a team of ESPN analysts did run 1,000 computer simulations to test the question, giving the 1992 team the victory 53.1 percent of the time by an average of one point. The thing is though that they don’t have to play the 1992 Dream Team, so we now arrive at the much simpler question: Can Team USA beat the current crop of international players? Last night’s exhibition match, the first time the team has played for a full game together so far, offered up a resounding “yes”.

Team USA beat the Dominican Republic with an impressive 113-59, all the while doing so in a killer crop of patriotic sneakers. Kevin Durant was the clear cut best performer, grabbing 24 points and 10 rebounds in that pending red, white, and blue version of the Nike Zoom KD IV. Kobe Bryant was also spotted in his USA flavored release of the Nike Zoom Kobe VII. The third piece of Nike Basketball’s puzzle was of course laced up in something beyond his own line for the first time in quite a while, with LeBron being the on-court spokesperson of sorts for the all new Nike Lunar Hyperdunk+. Beyond that Team USA also had Chris Paul in the Jordan CP3.V, Carmelo Anthony in an unseen Jordan Melo M8, and a host of others in various Hyperdunk and Hyperfuse iterations. Of course we’d be remiss to not touch on the footwear of the Dominican Republic team, who sported some similar red, white, and blue colorways of models like the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 and the Nike Lunar Hyperdunk+. Stay with us after the jump for an extensive gallery featuring the likes of these modern day greats putting on for the USA for the first time this Summer and keep it here for more sneaker recaps from the Olympic stage. Nike has served as the official footwear sponsor for the U.S. Junior National Girls Basketball Tournament, one of the longest running organizations in girls’ basketball. With a number of events going down next weekend in Chicago, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and more, Nike has created a special PE colorway of the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 for the participants of the event; it features a bright Volt and Vivid Blue colorway with a Nike Nationals tongue logo and a Girls Elite Youth Nationals logo embedded onto the heel of the insoles. These are definitely one of the louder, more punchier colorways of the Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 we’ve seen thus far, but it’s not certain if these will release unlike the Rose Classic PE, which recently hit stores. Check out the gallery of this size W10 below and if you’re interested in throwing a few bids in, head to the listing from dballaholic on eBay.

NBA Feet: 2012 All-Star Weekend – Saturday Night Recap

2012 all star saturday NBA Feet: 2012 All Star Weekend Saturday Night Recap

The 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend continued with Saturday night’s events, which featured the Foot Locker 3-point Shootout, Taco Bell Skills Challenge, All-Star Shooting Stars Competition, and the headlining act, the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. There was plenty of sneaker action to take notice, beginning with the insane space-themed PEs of the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 (and a Low version), Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011, and the Nike Zoom Brave V (worn by Tony Parker) spotted during the Skills Competition. During the three-point shootout, James Jones wore a White/Red/Yellow colorway of LeBron 9, while runner-up Kevin Durant wore the KD IV ‘Dragon’ on one foot and the Grey/Yellow on the other. Paul George got creative by making himself glow in the dark while rocking the Air Flight One NRG during his spectacular dunk.

It’s hard not to give the top sneaker spot to one of the contemporary sneaker releases spotted during the night, but that prized label goes to Allan Houston, the former New York Knick who teamed up with Landry Fields and Cappie Pondexter during the Shooting Stars Competition; the former Nike athlete, who wore some sick PEs back in the day, wore the Nike Air Flightposite III, which conveniently fit in with the ‘space travel’ theme due to its funky alien-like panels on the upper. Check out the full recap from Saturday night’s events and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for the All-Star Game Recap! via Yahoo

Jeremy Lin x Nike Basketball Pro Drills

jeremy lin nike pro drills 4 Jeremy Lin x Nike Basketball Pro Drills

Jeremy Lin’s rise to stardom can be compared to a winding up-hill climb rather than a straight shot to the top, but surely the ending is much sweeter when it’s reached via the road less traveled. Undrafted by thirty NBA teams, waived twice, sent down for a ‘tune-up’ in the NBDL, and finally given some burn after the New York Knicks exhausted all their PG options is as much as you can cram into the Jeremy Lin nutshell, but nobody could have predicted the Linsanity that spilled out once that hard shell was cracked open. Lin isn’t just playing ‘well’ – he’s putting up elite numbers that have opposing coaches scrambling for revised defensive game plans to contain the speedy guard, and so far, six out of six teams (and counting) have failed at that task.

Upon entering the NBA in 2010, Nike hand-picked the Taiwanese-American to join its roster of athletes, signing him to a three-year deal for his potential as an intercontinental ambassador for the game; Nike quickly employed his talents by touring him around Taiwan for basketball clinics and tapping his dribbling skills for this Nike Basketball Pro Drills video, which was likely recorded during the most recent off-season. Wearing the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011, Lin shows off his ‘Lin-sane’ two-handed dribbling skills – something that Deron, Devin, Derek, John, Ricky, and Jose have witnessed firsthand – while speaking on the benefits of the tricky exercise. It’s likely that not even Nike anticipated the astounding heights of ‘Linsanity’, but this just goes to show that there are undiscovered superstars around the league waiting to burst into the scene. With Lin telling the most provocative rags-to-riches story in NBA history, is Linsanity enough to get Jeremy his own signature shoe, or even a PE version of his dependable Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 Low? Check out Lin in this Pro Drills video below and let us know what you think.

Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 – Andre Iguodala PE’s

December 15th, 2011 by | 6 comments

nike hyperfuse 2011 andre iguodala pes 1 Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 Andre Iguodala PEs

Back in the summertime, some rumors were circulating regarding the possibility of Andre Iguodala heading over to the Lakers, but such talk has since been deaded as he’ll be back in Philly for the upcoming season. This set of PE’s for the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 serves as the nail in the coffin, with all three coming with the red/royal blue combo to go the the 76ers uni. The tongue even has the personalized touch in the form of the AI logo, which is Iguodala’s for the taking now that Allen Iverson is out of the league. As a nice little bonus, the Nike Hyperfuse 2011 colorways shown here even work as a nod to his alma mater University of Arizona in addition to the NBA tie in. Get a full look at all three after the jump and let us know if you’d cop given a retail release.
