The Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2012 hasn’t offered all that much in terms of insight into what it’s got planned for the upcoming NBA season, so let’s get back to what we do know for sure.  Fresh off the first look at TB colorways, we know Russell Westbrook’s new deal with Jordan Brand means there won’t be any more ‘Why Not?’ PEs, but while we wait on Rajon Rondo and the usual suspects, here’s a drop for one of the first colorways we previewed back in spring.  The Hyperfuse 2012 pictured above blends Charcoal and Black for a base from which Total Orange absolutely explodes, a fresh take on a classic holiday palette that blends our love for jack-o-lanterns with the rise in popularity of the clean balance conferred by grey tones.  Inspect them from more angles below and be on the lookout at Nike Basketball retailers as these are arriving now at select Asian retailers.

Team USA vs. Spain – Gold Medal Game Recap

team usa olympic basketball sneakers gold medal game 46 570x366 Team USA vs. Spain Gold Medal Game Recap

Team USA has done it again. It wasn’t as easy as some expected, with our men’s Olympic basketball squad being tested a couple of times during these summer games, but now that it’s all said and done our elite group is going home with the gold. Their final hurdle was the Spanish national team, one of the deepest in terms of NBA players with big names like the brothers Gasol and Serge Ibaka putting in work.

The rematch of the 2008 Beijing meeting between USA and Spain served up another nail-biter for basketball fans worldwide, with the Spanish squad bringing things within one point at the halfway mark. With their work cut out for them Team USA rose to the challenge; Kevin Durant pulled down 30, Kobe continued to be one of the hardest working players in the world, Chris Paul had his deft play on full display, and LeBron James closed out his incredible run over the past nine months with some huge highlight plays and an Olympic gold medal. Turning to the sneaker side of things there were a few notable shake ups: Chris Paul hit the court in the upcoming Jordan CP3.VI, Durant showed up in the NIKE iD version of the Nike Zoom KDIV ‘USA’ rather than the retail release, Kobe skipped out on his gold medal sneaks, and LeBron of course wowed the world with the debut of his Nike LeBron X (more on that later). wbf fireberry pack release Nike Basketball WBF Fireberry Pack Release Reminder

For the time being our men on Team USA are stuck in the red, white, and blue, representing on the national stage by delivering many a thrashing to the squads they’ve faced so far in pool play. But just because they’re confined to that on-court color scheme at the moment doesn’t mean you have to be, with tomorrow offering up a set of the sneakers worn by a good number of USAB members in the eye-popping fireberry color via this World Basketball Festival tie-in pack, made specifically with London in mind. Click through to check out the Nike LeBron 9 Low, Nike Zoom Kobe VII, and Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2012 included in the group (the Nike Lunar Hyperdunk+ is part of the special ‘Innovation Pack’ and will be released only in select cities) and look for these sneaks to hit shelves tomorrow, August 4th, at retailers like Nike Vault.

Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2012 “Brazil” + “China”

August 1st, 2012 by | 2 comments

nike zoom hyperfuse 2012 brazil china Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2012 Brazil + China

So much has been made of the Lunar Hyperdunk+ during this Olympic summer that you may have forgotten Nike Basketball’s other flagship design is also about to unleash its latest version. The Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2012 takes this series to new heights with a design whose distinct lines imply both performance (with a space aged faster-than-sound silhouette) and luxury (as in the case of wood grain). Two toned colorways like those pictured above have always looked great on the Hyperfuse, but especially with these new contours, China and Brazil colorups end up with more tonal depth than you might have imagined. Inspect both pairs up-close after the jump, let us know which Group B squad is closer to the gold standard and get ready for these to arrive at select Nike Basketball retailers on Saturday, August 4th.  via ITSB

Team USA vs. Dominican Republic

July 13th, 2012 by | 6 comments

team usa vs dominican republic Team USA vs. Dominican Republic

Could this year’s USA Olympic men’s basketball team beat the 1992 Dream Team? Of course we’ll never get final word on that impossible but question but for what it’s worth a team of ESPN analysts did run 1,000 computer simulations to test the question, giving the 1992 team the victory 53.1 percent of the time by an average of one point. The thing is though that they don’t have to play the 1992 Dream Team, so we now arrive at the much simpler question: Can Team USA beat the current crop of international players? Last night’s exhibition match, the first time the team has played for a full game together so far, offered up a resounding “yes”.

Team USA beat the Dominican Republic with an impressive 113-59, all the while doing so in a killer crop of patriotic sneakers. Kevin Durant was the clear cut best performer, grabbing 24 points and 10 rebounds in that pending red, white, and blue version of the Nike Zoom KD IV. Kobe Bryant was also spotted in his USA flavored release of the Nike Zoom Kobe VII. The third piece of Nike Basketball’s puzzle was of course laced up in something beyond his own line for the first time in quite a while, with LeBron being the on-court spokesperson of sorts for the all new Nike Lunar Hyperdunk+. Beyond that Team USA also had Chris Paul in the Jordan CP3.V, Carmelo Anthony in an unseen Jordan Melo M8, and a host of others in various Hyperdunk and Hyperfuse iterations. Of course we’d be remiss to not touch on the footwear of the Dominican Republic team, who sported some similar red, white, and blue colorways of models like the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 and the Nike Lunar Hyperdunk+. Stay with us after the jump for an extensive gallery featuring the likes of these modern day greats putting on for the USA for the first time this Summer and keep it here for more sneaker recaps from the Olympic stage.
