Thursday’s look back at 2008′s Zoom Kobe IV was a reminder of how conventional wisdom can shift right under your feet, and today we get a look at a design and really, an entire fabrication process, that was inspired by the unlikeliest of combinations. Shane Kohatsu of Nike’s famed Innovation Kitchen noticed that Chinese ballers wore everything from mesh runners to rugged workboots on the nation’s rapidly multiplying outdoor asphalt arenas, then went to work on creating a balance of their collective advantages. The three-layered technical marvel that is Hyperfuse is born, and in 2010, the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse became the first model to show off its incredible blend of lightweight breathability and strength. Lead designer Leo Chang noted that the new seamless approach means “You have to draw everything, from the inside out,” so have a look at various sketches and design notes after the jump and let us know where the OG Hyperfuse ranks in the annals of Nike Basketball’s all-time greats.

Nike Basketball made a strong push to sign 2010 rookie standouts John Wall and Evan Turner, but we all know that both opted for greener pastures (and let’s face it, their own signature shoes) with Reebok and Li-Ning, respectively. We already showed you that John Wall Player Exclusive of the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse, but here’s a look at what Nike BBall had in store for Evan Turner – had he chosen the Swoosh. It features a Red/Metallic Silver colorway that would’ve fit well with his Philly uniforms, although he now wears number ’12′ instead of ’21′. Turner actually wore these PEs during the Summer League games, but it wasn’t until late August that he officially signed with the up-and-coming Chinese athletic brand. Check out the extra images of this un-released (and likely never to be reproduced in any way shape or form) PE of the Hyperfuse for Evan Turner, and make these yours by visiting the auction from arturo420 on eBay.

Los Angeles is a major Nike Basketball hotspot thanks to Kobe Bryant and the Nike Zoom Kobe VI. Although Kobe Bryant is the only Laker player with a Nike signature shoe, most of the Lakers notables are decked out in Nike gear, like Lamar Odom, who is known for wearing some of the slickest PEs, Shannon Brown, who got a special PE of the Nike Zoom Kobe V for the 2010 Dunk Contest, and other key players on the squad. Here we have a nice collection of game-issued Nike Basketball sneakers, each pair autographed by the player who intended to wear them; two Kobe VIs for Kobe along with one each for Brown and Luke Walton, Andrew Bynum’s Zoom Hyperfuse, and what might be the cream of the crop, Lamar Odom’s Zoom Hyperfuse 2011. Want a pair of these? Check out all six below because we’ve got a detailed gallery as well as direct links to the auctions from nytryder8 on eBay.

Rajon Rondo has been wearing the Nike Zoom Kobe VI most recently, but if Rondo and the Boston Celtics want any chance at a tiebreaker with the LA Lakers this June, something will have to change. We jokingly suggested Rajon take on the Air Max 360 BB ‘Focus Pack’ to remedy Boston’s ails since he has a player exclusive colorway in the works but who knows if/when we’ll see those on the NBA hardwood when Rondo has more PEs like these dope Nike Zoom Hyperfuse Lows. These two new home/away looks are done with the options that you’ll have a chance to create for yourself starting on July 6th, and the addition of a midfoot gradient to the synthetic uppers is a great upgrade. Click through to see more shots of both pairs and stick with Sneaker News for the latest NIKEiD products and Nike Basketball player exclusives as our NBA Feet feature chronicles the Playoffs’ top kicks.

Two years ago, Trevor Ariza played shutdown D on the perimeter to help the Los Angeles Lakers win their first of back to back championships. He missed the postseason last year with Houston but is now back in the playoffs with New Orleans, who have a chance to upset the defending champs in the first round. And no matter the outcome of this competitive series, nobody can doubt Ariza’s Nike Basketball player exclusive collection, models like this new Nike Zoom Hyperfuse Low PE having become a regular side benefit of his solid play. Will the Hornets be able to undercut the Lakers? We’ll need at least two more games to find out but be sure to stick with Sneaker News to see what all the NBA stars are wearing in our ongoing NBA Feet feature.

Lee Hsueh Lin is sometimes called the ‘Iverson of Taiwan’, but unlike the Answer, Lin is signed with Nike Basketball. A couple weeks back, Sneaker News brought you a look at a dope Nike Zoom Hyperfuse Low PE he wore that apparently demonstrates the Super Basketball League’s lack of an NBA-style dress code. Most US basketball fans probably don’t recognize him as a household name, but you’ll soon have the chance to rock a similar Zoom Hyperfuse Low when this Photo Blue edition hits retailers shortly. This pair adds Chlorine Blue accents for a look that’s perfect for summer with its ‘day at the beach’ vibe and are available now at Stateside retailers like Eastbay.
