Did you hear that Stan Smith is collaborating with adidas on the Stan Smith? Yes you read that correctly, the man that that signature sneaker was originally designed for is circling around for a special edition this year. That’s definitely strange territory for a pair of team up sneakers, as those sorts of projects are usually reserved for sneaker boutiques, artists, and the ever-dubious crowd of “influencers”. This isn’t the first time that a sneaker company has swerved around the typical groups selected for those x’d out sneaker releases though. There is a rich history of sneaker collaborations coming from companies that you’d never expect.

best nike kd releases The 35 Best Nike KD Releases In History

It’s hard to ignore all the chatter going on regarding Kevin Durant’s undecided allegiance to a sneaker brand. It’s still a tug-of-war of sorts between Nike and Under Armour, a brand that has rapidly emerged as a possible front-runner in the KD sweepstakes thanks to their deep pockets and DC headquarters. Nothing regarding Durant’s decision has been confirmed yet, although there are small tidbits of info that may or may not reveal what the defending NBA MVP has his heart set on. Regardless of whether Kevin re-ups with Nike or begins a new era at Under Armour, his tenure with the Swoosh has been a memorable one for many reasons – his sneakers being one of them.

You’d have a hard time convincing most sneakerheads that the Nike Zoom KD IV isn’t the pinnacle of Kevin Durant’s sneaker offerings so far. A bit of evidence to support that claim comes in the form of the sought after nature of some of the more limited pairs from that range. Gathered here are perhaps the two hardest to track down for that silo: the Nike Zoom KD IV “Weatherman” and the Nike Zoom KD IV “Nerf”. So just how much will the Durant duo cost you? Take a look at the rest of the images on them after the click and then take a look at the price tag from e-bunz on eBay.

Nike Zoom Kobe VII ‘Nerf’ Customs By Mache

nike zoom kobe vii nerf Nike Zoom Kobe VII Nerf Customs By Mache

His Nike LeBron 9 ‘Nerf’ Customs closed out the year in custom kicks in the perfect way, but it appears that Mache has all the intentions to serve as the sturdy bookends for 2012. Check out his Nike Zoom Kobe VII done up in the same motif of the popular December release of the Nike Zoom KD IV; using the already loud and spectacular ‘Leopard/Christmas’ as the base, Mache colorizes the shoe the match perfectly with the blocking of the KD IV while skillfully adding the Nerf-ish details like the speckling on the outsole as well as the black/grey splash gradient on the ankle collar and tongue. Unfortunately, this will be Mache’s last ‘Nerf’ custom, so check out the quick shots of the Nerfed out process below and let us know which of the three (original KD version and the two customs) you enjoy best. via PaintOrThread.

Nike LeBron 9 ‘Nerf’ Customs by Mache

We live in an era when colorway-swapping customs are as popular as remixed hit singles, and the latest little ditty is one of the more impressive we’ve seen applied to the Nike LeBron 9.  Patterned after the‘Nerf’ Zoom KD IV that hit limited retail locations last week, this Mache Custom Kicks effort does a great job of appropriating the splatter print on the KD IV’s strap, applying it to the whole ankle area.  The rest of the shoe is spot-on when it comes to blocking, except that the Max Air cushion might have been neon green in a perfect world.  We’ve yet to see a ‘Dunkman’ LeBron 9 that might easily accommodate that kind of thing, but already we know to expect to see that signature palette replicated on another hot release coming up soon; perhaps a Zoom KD IV?  Click through to see this ‘Nerf’ LeBron 9 custom close-up, and let us know where they rank against the other color copies we’ve seen of late.

Nike Zoom KD IV ‘Nerf’ – Release Reminder

December 16th, 2011 by | 17 comments

nike zoom kd iv nerf rr Nike Zoom KD IV Nerf Release Reminder

While ‘Nerf’ certainly strikes child-like memories, don’t expect the release of the Zoom KD IV ‘Nerf’ to be a walk in the park. Last weekend’s release of the Nike Zoom KD IV ‘Weatherman’ proved that only those who were willing to weather the late-night wind-chill would be rewarded with a pair of the most colorful Zoom KDs to date, but the Nerf might be a bit more tense because it appears that they will be more limited in number. Only three NikeTown locations and only eight Foot Locker House of Hoops locations will have them in stock, as well as one retailer in Chicago and another in Hyattsville. We expect people to be camping out for these as we speak, so get out there and do your best to cop one of the best sneakers of 2011. Good luck!
