Can the Nike Zoom KD V follow up the incredible success of Durant’s fourth signature sneaker? There’s no doubt that the minds over at Nike are cooking up some crazy colorways to carry the gauntlet passed on by the likes of the ‘Nerf’ and ‘Weatherman’, but just as important to the range will be the OKC standards. Here’s one half of that equation, the Nike Zoom KD V in the Thunder away colors, with a release date of December 8th tacked on to the black/photo blue/team orange pair. Ready for the KD V yet, or still holding out on a release of the ‘What The KD IV’? Now that we have a pretty good idea about what the shoe will look like (thanks to the ginormous NBA 2K13 billboard), it’s time to feast our eyes on the first high-energy colorway of the KD V – this metallic Green/Hot Red colorway leaked by the man himself. These could potentially be this year’s ‘Christmas’ shoe, when the entire Nike Big 3 will debut some festive colorways, or maybe a St. Patty’s Day for 2013. Regardless of the holiday connection, we get a first look at the medial side of the KD V, which reveals a patch of Hyperfuse or another lightweight material right where the arch meets the midfoot. A full shot is right ahead, so give it a look and let us know what you think.

The ‘Black History Month’ collection has come to be a yearly tradition at this point, cranking out black based kicks that pay homage to the history of the African diaspora. Next year the lineup will be back, with a few interesting additions to boot. The Nike LeBron X, Nike Zoom KD V, and Nike Zoom Kobe VIII will be there, along with a strong Air Jordan showing featuring the Spiz’ike, Air Jordan 1, and Jordan Melo M9. Rounding out the group are a couple non-traditional models- the Nike WMNS Dunk Sky High, the Nike Air Force 1 Foamposite, and an all new model called the Nike Lunar Force 1 Fuse. Stick with Sneaker News to get the images and let us know in the comments which BHM sneaker you’re looking forward to the most.

Kevin Durant in Nike Zoom KD V in NBA 2K13 Promo

Sneaker News served up a first look at the Nike Zoom KD V when Kevin Durant was spotted wearing the upcoming shoes during a commercial shoot for the NBA 2K13 video game franchise. It looks like those who purchase a copy of the award-winning 2K13 will get a look at the shoes as well; in the promotional photography used as a backdrop for the NBA 2K13 campaign, Kevin Durant is seen wearing the yet-to-release KD V in the ‘Away’ Thunder colorway. Might as well note cover-mate Derrick Rose, who is wearing the adidas Rose 3, and Blake Griffin in the Lunar Hyperdunk+, which leads us to believe that NBA 2K13 will also have a nice emphasis on the kicks as well as on the realistic gameplay. NBA 2K13 hits stores on October 3rd, but catch a preview of KD in the kicks here!

Kevin Durant Debuts Nike Zoom KD V

As we wrap up the current cycle of signature shoes and the last of the remaining releases hit stores, we lay out a fresh new doormat and welcome in the next installments of LeBron, Kobe, KD, CP3, Melo, and Fly Wade for the upcoming 2012-2013 NBA Season. Yesterday, we were given a nice helping of fresh new kicks as LeBron James debuted his LeBron X during Sunday morning’s Gold Medal game (as did Chris Paul his CP3.VI), but Kevin Durant actually had his fellow Gold Medalists beat by about a month; Durant participated in a commercial shoot for NBA 2K13 while wearing the NBA 2K13, and although the full commercial won’t go on air until later on, we caught some clear viewings of the Nike Zoom KD V that will be featured in that upcoming ad.

After catching a glimpse of the KD V in catalog image form earlier this year, this first real-world view of the V reveals some interesting details; first off, the Adaptive Fit strap has been removed in favor of a unique boot-like construction using a non-traditional tongue, the pronounced heel-counter should serve as an added stability feature for KD (who likes shoes tight-fitting), and the high-cut tongue and lower heel adds some visual flair in a manner similar to the Lunar Hyperdunk+ and LeBron 9. We’ll keep you updated on the Zoom KD V as Nike prepares for the official unveiling later this year, but check out the images below and let us know what you think of the next step in Durant’s growing Nike saga below!

Are we looking at the next signature for a first-time NBA Champion?  Kevin Durant’s Oklahoma City Thunder lead their NBA Finals series against the Miami Heat, and their colors are prominently on display on the above pictured Nike Zoom KD V.  This model some have compared to the sleek Hyperfuse series or even the Hyperdunk thanks to the high ankle and prominent heel counter will be Durant’s first experiment with Max Air.  The Zoom KD 5 keeps with the KD series’ odd-year/no-strap pattern, while another unique traction pattern makes three in a row since the III last utilized a traditional herringbone.  Click through to see these details displayed in a variety of colorups, let us know which style looks best and stick with Sneaker News for all the Nike Zoom KD V release dates.  Photos: ak

Nike Zoom KD V

zoom kd v Nike Zoom KD V

The prices of sneakers have risen to amazing heights over the last two years, with Nike making a courageous effort to tag a shoe with a $250 asking price in the LeBron 9 Elite. So what could we expect with a shoe roughly a third of that price? Nike proved that at a low-tier pricepoint, an amazing shoe could be made – just look toward the KD IV, which has become the defining sleeper hit of the year. Working closely with Kevin Durant, designer Leo Chang created the Nike Zoom KD IV using the all-new Adaptive Fit lockdown system on a low-cut construction and a fore-foot Zoom-padded outsole, giving the shoe some design appeal with the strap and pointed tongue, but what really lit the spark were the introductory high-energy colorways in the ‘Nerf’ and ‘Weatherman’. What followed was a continual string of sure-fire hits like the ‘Galaxy’, ‘Easter’, the N7 release, and Nike iD, and quickly the Zoom KD IV rose to becoming the ‘it’ shoe for the first-half of 2012.

The success of the KD IV has Durant’s signature line on unfamiliar ground – that is, because the expectations are astoundingly high. Quite frankly, the Zoom KD III didn’t make that much noise and the exciting releases were rather limited, so the KD IV’s popularity arrived so suddenly simply because it didn’t rank too high on the list of must-watch items on our radar. Fortunately for KD, Leo, and Nike, there’s a mounting anticipation around the Nike Zoom KD V and the expectations are much higher, and this first look at a catalog shot shows that the Zoom KD isn’t just a ‘bargain’ purchase, but a headlining release.

Some details worth pointing out: Obviously, the lack of the strap is the most daunting feature (or subtraction), but the addition of visible Max Air on the heel, a pronounced heel counter, a rising ankle peak (note the heel is still relatively low), and a unique tongue construction and lacing system. The overall profile of the shoe can be compared to Nike’s current non-signature flagship models like the Hyperdunk and Hyperfuse, and it certainly draws comparisons to Durant’s physical build – slender yet sleek. Of course, this catalog shot isn’t enough to lay down a verdict, but expect more in every definition of the word as the Zoom KD is slated to break the $100 barrier with some interesting structural advances. Your thoughts? The Zoom KD IV saga isn’t quite over yet, but let us know what you think of this first look at the next KD shoe, and stay tuned to Sneaker News for more. Photos: infam0usP on NT
