Nike Basketball Signatures of Christmas Past

nike basketball christmas shoes Nike Basketball Signatures of Christmas Past

The tradition of special Christmas colorways for signature sneakers is one of the longer running ones with respect to Nike Basketball. That day has consistently been an important one for footwear enthusiasts thanks to the countless energy colorways and the occasional brand new model debuted during the Christmas day games. The theme has, out of necessity, evolved over the years beyond the standard red, white, and green. Just take a look at this year’s shoes for example; you’ve got the LeBron 11 featuring a snowflake decal, the KD 6 with Fair Isle sweater style graphics, and a Kobe 8 with scales practically jumping off the body of the shoe. The Christmas sigs by Nike have evolved from much simpler forms of previous years, and we can only expect the Swoosh to get even more festive in coming years.

A Detailed Look at the Nike Kobe Prelude Exhibit

nike kobe prelude exhibit A Detailed Look at the Nike Kobe Prelude Exhibit

In 2003, Kobe Bryant – a free agent in the sneaker endorsement market – signed a deal with athletic giant Nike. The first signature model would not be unveiled until 2006 when the Air Zoom Kobe 1 would hit shelves. Since then, Nike Basketball has come forward with new designs year after year – eight in total as of this date – with the entire line at the hands of Eric Avar. As we all know, the progression of the signature shoe can be seen as a natural evolution, with certain elements carrying over from one phase to another, and with a career so illustrious like that of Kobe’s, each model has its fair share of stories to tell.

In addition to today’s reveal of the Kobe 9, Nike Basketball is also pulling the curtain off the Nike Kobe “Prelude Pack“. We already showed you a full group shot of the shoes, but this time around we get a little bit of info straight from the mouth of Kobe Byrant. In the quick clip Kobe mentions pairs like the “81 Points” version and the “Misery” that apparently alludes to the Lakers’ loss to the Celtics in the NBA finals. Stay with us after the break to check out the video and remember that the Nike Kobe “Prelude Pack” will start to release this Saturday, December 7th with the Nike Zoom Kobe 1 Prelude (Successive shoes will be rolled out on a weekly basis afterwards).

There you have it, the whole set of Nike Kobe “Prelude” retros. As mentioned before, the sneakers are each wrapped up in specific moments from Kobe Bryant’s career. What’s more, they each sport a pretty crazy colorway (It’s worth noting that the Nike Kobe 6 pair reported as a Prelude that was floating around was in fact just a NIKEiD creation). After the break there are photos showing off the details from each of the shoes, so check those out and pray with us that the distribution on this exciting Nike Kobe “Prelude” retro set isn’t too terribly limited.

Update: Each Kobe Prelude Pack shoe will release on Nike.com as well as select additional retailers. There will be one release per week beginning with the Nike Zoom Kobe I Prelude on December 7th.

Nike Zoom Kobe 5 “Big Stage” Set on eBay

big stage kobe 5 Nike Zoom Kobe 5 Big Stage Set on eBay

Before the most recent series for which Miami just got their rings, the last NBA Finals to go 7 games was the 2010 edition of that epic Lakers/Celtics rivalry.  The results were switched from their meeting in ’08, with Kobe Bryant capturing his fifth championship in a couple of special Nike Zoom Kobe V makeups.  The ‘Big Stage’ Zoom Kobe 5s were something of a precursor to the elegance we’ve come to associate with the Nike Basketball Elite Series, black and white colorways going the elegant route with tonal graphics effectively invisible from a distance as well as golden accents.  These pairs are quite rare and given that they were released separately as regional exclusives, it’s that much less common to see them together.  Click through to see the ‘Big Stage’ pack in all its glory, let us know if you think the occasion will arise for another NBA Finals Nike Kobe shoe in the future, then click to see what they sold for from dynamiccases on eBay.

It’s a Celebration: A Look Back at Significant Sneaker Packs

sneaker packs lebron jordan Its a Celebration: A Look Back at Significant Sneaker Packs

Sneaker Packs – certainly a gift, and unfortunately a curse. We’re talking about all the releases comprised of two must-have sneakers attached together by an oversized box and slyly priced higher than if the shoes were individually released, but as they say, a sum is larger than its parts. This weekend’s coveted sneaker release by Nike – specifically the Nike LeBron Championship aka Celebration Pack – will be priced at a whopping $500, totaling up to the single most expensive sneaker pack release ever put together by Nike or Jordan Brand. Regardless of the price, you’d better believe that droves of LeBron fans will do what it takes to get their hands on a set (based on Foot Locker and Nike’s release procedure, it’ll be all luck), but there really was a time when you could walk into a store and pick ‘em up without much of a hassle.
