Nike Basketball has officially unveiled the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite in the Home and Away colorways, sitting side-by-side above. While Sneaker News first broke the news on both the Home and Away versions of the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite (and the LeBron 9 Elite Home, the LeBron 9 Elite Away, the Hyperdunk 2011 Elite Home…you get the point), this detailed look gives us a great view of what makes this shoe an ‘Elite’ model. Just like the LeBron 9 Elite and Hyperdunk 2011 Elite, the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite is given a structural boost with carbon fiber heel counters and mid-foot shank plates and displayed so elegantly with the golden details on the Swoosh, Kobe shozoku logo, and Flywire embedded beneath the newly-designed snakeskin upper. Perhaps Nike’s referencing the fact that a 5-seed in the West will result in a road game-heavy playoff bracket for the Lakers this year with the gold-accented, otherwise blacked-out Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elites. The only colorway we’d seen to date, this ultra-premium postseason design must surely be complimented by something for home games and those familiar yellow jerseys. And just like clockwork, here’s the Zoom Kobe 7 Elite ‘Home’, another one of the still growing mass of white and/or black designs in early 2012. This pair retains the Away’s golden hits but opts for a different blocking pattern and begs several questions: Which one do you like best? Do you wish Nike Basketball would have included more purple in these designs? If you’ve been keeping up with Lakers basketball post-All Star Weekend, you’d notice that Kobe’s shoes aren’t the only thing that’s transforming. After fracturing his nose at the hands of rival Dwyane Wade (although, Kobe wouldn’t say Wade is a rival), the Black Mamba was forced to wear a protective mask during games as a preventative measure, and even three games in, it seems that Kobe hasn’t found a mask that fits him just right, because just last night, Kobe sported a new face-mask – an unintentional ‘Away’ black mask that made him appear less like a basketball player and more like Kato from the Green Hornet series.
While Kobe is now on ‘Attask Masked’ mode, we’ll have to wait a little longer until the official debut of the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite, which features full-length Zoom Air, carbon fiber heel counters, and a retrograde design element in the snake-skin upper. A look at the new box also reveals a slide-out construction in a newly detailed exterior, featuring carbon fiber print and gold detailing. Kobe Bryant took the court this week with a new look that has earned him a new nickname – the Masked Mamba. After suffering a freak injury during the NBA All-Star Game (it was an accident, right Dwyane?), Kobe was forced to get his Rip Hamilton on and wear the clear Zorro mask for the game, but it seemed to bode well for Kobe and the Lakers as they easily handled the energetic Timberwolves by a margin of 19 points. Although it hasn’t been scientifically proven if the mask gave Kobe a boost in performance, we know for sure that this other piece of hardware – the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite – will send the Black Mamba to another level of play. At the start of the Holiday 2011 season, the book on the Zoom Kobe VI was officially closed and news of the Zoom Kobe VII began making headlines on our front pages. For the VII, the interchangeable Attack Fast and Attack Strong was the keynote upgrade from ‘six’ to ‘seven’, with the dual-grade tiered system adding a fresh new take on Zoom Kobe VII. However, information regarding a third version, an ‘Elite’, left us curious; what would constitute this exclusive title and more importantly, a $200 price-tag?
Here’s a first look at the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite; at first glance, it appears just like the Zoom Kobe VII, but it’s really more than what meets the eye. It’s got a redone snake-skin upper consisting of aggressive hexagonal scales (reminiscent of the Zoom Kobe VI), a carbon fiber heel counter, and full-length Zoom Air. Call it a ‘fully-loaded’ version of the Kobe VII if you’d like, but with these strapped on your feet, you’ll be in the most comfortable and luxurious ride of your life.
