It’s official folks, following today’s victory over Argentina Team USA has advanced on to another gold medal game in Olympic basketball. Will we see Durant, Kobe, and LeBron break out the special pairs of their three summer sneakers to celebrate the moment? That remains to be seen, but at the very least you will have a chance to do so once they make their way into stores. Speaking of which, the Nike Zoom Kobe VII and the Nike Lunar Hyperdunk+ sporting the ‘Gold Medal’ look will both do so this weekend in Asian markets, with a US date still pending (although the wait won’t be too long). For the time being our men on Team USA are stuck in the red, white, and blue, representing on the national stage by delivering many a thrashing to the squads they’ve faced so far in pool play. But just because they’re confined to that on-court color scheme at the moment doesn’t mean you have to be, with tomorrow offering up a set of the sneakers worn by a good number of USAB members in the eye-popping fireberry color via this World Basketball Festival tie-in pack, made specifically with London in mind. Blame it on whatever curse was on NBA/USA Basketball in 2004, that earlier USAB squads had made it too easy or any other reasoning, but there was a clear departure in the mid-’00s with top-tier professionals choosing to skip out on the Olympic experience. A young LeBron James suffered through that embarrassing Athens appearance and helped to rejuvenate interest in the ’08 squad, but it was Kobe Bryant’s dogged determination that galvanized the Redeem Team. Kobe put off surgery to repair the torn ligament in his shooting pinky to make sure he was ready for Beijing, and now a few years later, we’re on the verge of the Black Mamba claiming his second Olympic gold.
The ‘Gold Medal’ Nike Zoom Kobe VII System envisions a London result in line with what Bryant and his Team USA cohorts have been visualizing, and with a release date coming up around the time of the August 12th finale, we’ve got new photos to share after the jump below. You’ve already seen how Kevin Durant will be celebrating in sneaker form in the event that Team USA manages the gold in basketball, but what about his Nike Basketball brethren Kobe Bryant and LeBron James? They’ll be taking part in the festivities as well, with the Nike Zoom Kobe VII seen here with a gold upgrade on the side Swoosh and on the speckled look that hits the heel clip. Kobe Bryant is ready to unleash the beast on the rest of the world once the Olympic Games commence tomorrow in London, so perhaps Nike Basketball saved the best for last with this August 2012 release. ‘Cheetah’ is the last confirmed predatory concept of the Nike Zoom Kobe VII, as it features the animal’s signature markings on the upper with the silhouetted icon on the heel, but it’s actually one of the first leaked Kobe VII ‘Predator’ editions when we saw it sitting idly on a table of goodies when Kobe and Avar spoke about the idea and spirit behind the shoe. USA Basketball has one more tune-up before the Olympics get underway, a finale against host Spain to wrap up the World Basketball Festival‘s Barcelona leg. Kevin Durant led the way with 27 points with Kobe and King James adding 18 and 15, respectively, and each of Nike Basketball’s big three rocked new patriotic pairs courtesy of the Swoosh’s online dream catcher. The Nike Zoom KD IV iD is united with the Zoom Kobe VII and LeBron’s Lunar Hyperdunk+ in its use of a white upper, red laces and blue Swoosh/sole combo, and all three of them can be used as a base for your own customization experiments on NIKEiD. Kobe Bryant and Team USA edged the Argentine national team in Barcelona last night, rocking a 1992 throwback uniform that only underlined how spectacular the Dream Team’s showing really was. Meanwhile, here in the States, Kobe’s latest Nike Basketball signature hit select retailers with a reminder of how much the game has grown globally by offering a tribute to Spain’s most elite competitors in The World Game. The Nike Zoom Kobe VII ‘Barcelona’ also points back to the nexus modern basketball performance with football boot builds on the fourth such lowcut Zoom Kobe release, which is now available in its yellow Barça-inspired colorway from robssssss on eBay.

While it was Sneaker News that broke the news on the ‘FC Barcelona’ colorways of the Nike Zoom Kobe VII, Kobe Bryant himself actually jumped the gun on that breakthrough when he was spotted with the mysterious Aqua Blue/Orange colorway of the Nike Zoom Himself VII during a recent outing at his daughter’s soccer game. The reception to both Barcelona-inspired joints were widely positive, although the grunts and moans came when we confirmed both to be exclusive to European retailers. It’s time to get your international hunt on because these will be a tough cop, so keep in mind that these do hit Nike Basketball retailers like House of Hoops tomorrow!
