The Nike Zoom Kobe VII “What the Kobe” is a sneaker that just keeps getting better and better as its release date approaches. The latest development upping the level of excitement for the wild design was the revelation of that crazy logo on the heel clip, a jailbreak at the zoo graphic pointing to all the differing models that lent bits of their design to this release. Oh and speaking of the release date we’ve pinned it down, and the Nike Zoom Kobe VII “What the Kobe” will be arriving at retailers on July 7th. The 2012 NBA Season just came to a close last night, so now we’ll anticipate a slew of Summer-time Nike Basketball releases (that are actually more energetic than the ones that release during the course of the season). For the Zoom Kobe, that certainly is the case based on the ‘What The Kobe’, which combines not one, not two, but FIVE different concepts onto different areas of the shoe. Some will argue that the ‘Galaxy’ or the ‘Invisibility Cloak’ is the highlight of the Kobe VII library, but there might not be another Nike Basketball release this season (yes, Nike Basketball as a whole, not just Kobe VIIs) as chaotically wonderful as these. If you need a visual descriptive of what exactly the ‘What The Kobe’ entails, just take a look at the heel logo that is expected to be on this upcoming limited release. It’s a mosaic of the green mamba snake, the great white shark, the leopard, the wolf, and the poison dart frog, all of which have had individual representation on the Kobe VII throughout the year. The Kobe VII ‘What The Kobe’ is the ultimate mash up of the Kobe VII concept rooted in the predatory spirit of these wildlife alphas, and it’s at this meeting point that the Zoom Kobe VII gets an energetic push from a signature shoe that, quite frankly, has been rather ordinary. What means more to Kobe Bryant: an NBA Championship or a gold medal at the Olympics? We’re prone to think the former, as just one more would have him up there with MJ, but as you well know 2012 is not the year for that. Remember when the Lakers lost out to the eventual Western Conference Champs the Oklahoma City Thunder a couple weeks back and Kobe insisted in the post-game press conference that he wasn’t “just going to fade to black”? Turns out he was right, as the man is instead fading to red, white, and blue in anticipation of some serious USAB dominance at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. Did you ever think Kobe and LeBron would ever play on the same darn team? Kobe’s competitive ferocity has him fuming over his Round 2 exit, while LeBron James will try to capitalize on the ‘third time’s a charm’ proverb as he laces up for Game 1 tomorrow night, but this August, Black Mamba will join forces with LeBron (and a collective group of the NBA’s best) for the 2012 Olympics in London. Though the Games are weeks away, the actual USAB festivities will begin earlier with the World Basketball Festival, so Nike’s gonna let you in on the Red/White/Blue goodies this Saturday, as the LeBron 9 Low and Kobe VII ‘USAB’ joints hit Nike Basketball retailers like 21 Mercer. All eyes are on the spritely ‘What The Kobe?’ release, but there are still a few more colorways coming out the Kobe VII pipeline, like this new upcoming release featuring the hoop-centric logo on the heel. With International basketball coming our way in the form of exhibition ‘friendly’ contests and the much more series Olympic arrangement, we can expect a ton of nation-specific combinations of colors, so could this be part of some ‘Pack’ with the Navy/Yellow colorway, or perhaps some relation to this kids colorway that dropped some time ago? The Kobe’s still fuming about getting booted from the Playoffs? He’s got that Jordan-like level of competition in him, so we’re willing to bet that he can’t wait to get back on a basketball court (he’ll probably let his anger out on this August when he plays for Team USA in the Olympics).
