Earlier today LeBron James went “Retro” for the first time in a while and brought out the Nike Zoom LeBron VI “Fairfax” for his return to Cleveland. The Ken Link-designed Nike Zoom LeBron VI was the last of the LeBrons before it moved onto the era of Jason Petrie – a move that made LeBrons much more popular by a noticeable degree and solidifed the Nike LeBron as the flagship name and model for Nike Basketball. With consumers chasing down LeBron releases at a faster rate than ever before and the recent unveiling of the Nike LeBron X Elite bringing in even more excitement to the LBJ label, we’d like to continue our “What Do You Think?” series by posing the thought of a Nike LeBron Retro. Is the timing perfect? Is it too early?

NIKE LEBRON WEEK
Over ten models of the Nike LeBron, is there a true clear-cut “number one”? Air Max fans absolutely love the VII and the new full-length Vis-Zoom on the LeBron X might take the cake, but the Foamposite-based Zoom LeBron IV probably has a lot of votes as well. Aaron Cooper’s design of the IV was an instant hit, and among the timid GR colorways that hit stores a series of special editions were created on the side. The Dunkmans, NYC Remix joints, the SVSM PE’s – those are all bangers, but the undisputed visual shocker of the LeBron IV catalog is the December 2006 creation of the ‘Fruity Pebbles’.
Nike Basketball created a super-limited run of the Nike Zoom LeBron IV ‘Fruity Pebbles’ just for LeBron James and his friends and family (thus the ‘Family Style’ embroidery on the heel pull-tabs). It features a clean white upper with a rainbow of colorways on the bottom end, with translucent outsole rubber traction matching the graphics of the Fruity Pebbles cereal (LeBron’s personal favorite) on the midsole. LeBron actually wore these in a game on December 1st, 2006 against the Atlanta Hawks for a throwback Hardwood Classics jersey night, and later Upper Deck teamed up with Nike again to release a figurine with the Fruity Pebbles and throwback Cavs uniforms. More of this super-rare pair of Fruity Pebbles LeBron IVs below, so take a look at tonight’s Classics Revisited below and let us know if these are your favorite!

We understand that LeBron fans are riding high off the heels of his first-ever NBA Title. But to chop up a pair of gems like the Nike Zoom LeBron IV ‘Dunkman’? Did Freehand Profit inhale some of that funny gas that he intended to avoid? In all seriousness, we have to applaud not only the craftsmanship, but the unbridled display of sneaker sacrifice; we’ve seem him chop up the Concords, Black/Cement IIIs, and other goodies in macabre style, but the Zoom LeBron IV ‘Dunkman’ eclipses all of those shoes combined in terms of rarity because unless you’re part of LeBron’s immediate circle, you’re shelling out a ton of rupees to get these. Whatever burning bush or shoebox has been telling Freehand has obviously led to some insane sneaker gas mask creations, so what could he go with next? It’s been quite some time since we’ve last seen one of Freehand’s work so take a look below and let us know what you think.

Every time these All-Star exhibitions go down, the reality of the NBA lock-out stings just a bit more. The latest NBA un-season game went down in Oklahoma City, where sneaker fans got another feast of basketball kicks both new and old, like KD’s Zoom KD IV ‘Nerf’, the Nike LeBron 9 ‘Ohio State’ (worn by LeBron, of course), Carmelo’s Blackout Melo M8 (rather explosive, isn’t it?), Chris Paul’s CP3.V, and a surprising sightning in the Nike Zoom LeBron IV, worn by the former adidas athlete Michael Beasley (dropped 56 points). Other notables included Russell Westbrook’s Zoom Hyperfuse 2011, James Harden’s Hyperfuse Low, and Jonny Flynn’s Zoom Hyperdunk 2011. During half-time of this game, Kevin Durant presented a charitable donation of $100,000 to the Single Parents Support Network of Oklahoma City, further demonstrating the stars’ mission of giving back to the community.
