lebron samples SVSM, Watch the Throne, and More Legendary Nike LeBron PEs

We’re in the middle of trying to whittle down a field of 32 Nike LeBron sneakers to a single greatest pair in the line via our Sneaker News LeBron Madness bracket. That group features the greatest of retail releases for LeBron’s line pulled from the past ten plus years, from the Nike Zoom Generation that brought him into the league all the way up to this year’s LeBron 11. But, with the LeBron line, the unreleased samples, player exclusives, and the like, are almost as big a part of the equation.

Nike LeBron 6 “Beaverton” – Exclusive to Nike Employees

Back in 2008 LeBron James was riding a wave of personal accomplishments unlike he’d ever seen before. He had just finished leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to their best record in the franchise’s history at 66-16 and took home his first MVP trophy. Before he left for China for the 2008 Summer Olympics (in which he took home the Gold Medal as part of the Redeem Team) LeBron headed out to Beaverton, Oregon as part of the LeBron World Tour. Employees were treated to an exclusive pair of the Nike LeBron VI, which featured a black and orange color scheme with a date stitched onto the tongue while a Metallica-inspired text (you’ll notice the text also doubles as the Yeezus Tour font this year) reads ‘LeBron World Tour’ on the inner lining. What do you think of this exclusive pair of the Nike LeBron 6? Hit the click to get a full view of this rare pair of LeBron shoes and see the listing in full from ktaylor865 on eBay.

11 Days of Nike LeBron: The Zoom LeBron VI

We’re exactly at the halfway mark for our 11 Days of Nike LeBron series, bringing you through LBJ’s first five signature offerings from Nike. Next in line is the Nike Zoom LeBron VI, a shoe that sports one of the more conventional shapes across all of his silhouettes. In fact, the overall shape is sort of an off-handed ode to the Nike Air Force 1 High. That familiar shape certainly played a part in the notched up off-court presence that the LeBron 6 brought to the line. The sneaker further slimmed things down (To 16.8 ounces to be exact) as the overall weight for the Nike LeBron line continued to fall from the high-point that was the Zoom LeBron IV. Gone was the foot-bucket system and in place was a slightly more conventional cup sole set up.

Nike LeBron Black Collection Display at Nike WHQ

August 14th, 2013 by | 3 comments

nike lebron black collection display whq Nike LeBron Black Collection Display at Nike WHQ

LeBron James spent some time on August 13th traversing the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, OR by foot and by bicycle, making some pit-stops at a LeBron sand sculpture (yes, the Portland area has sand) and an interesting display inside the WHQ walls. Ten years of Nike LeBron greatness were up for viewing, with each of LBJ’s signature models individually encased along a straight line makeshifting a metaphorical road to the Nike LeBron 11. The entire set was in an all-black format – some of which we’ve seen before, some not at all, but all amazing. With two NBA Titles, two Olympic Gold Medals, four NBA MVPs, and a Dunk Contest Trophy already under the man’s belt, it seems timely for Nike to embark on a LeBron retrospective of some sort, and we can most certainly expect a story-line with the debut of the LeBron 11.

Like it or not, this interesting display brings us back yet again to the topic of the Nike LeBron Retro. If you compare the trajectory of the Air Jordan and the Nike LeBron, you’d realize that the two could not be more different. Air Jordans made their Retro debut in 1994 when MJ was thought to be done with the game, while LeBron James has shown zero signs of desire to hang ‘em up earlier than usual. More importantly, the Air Jordan line was all about sleek and stylish design opposed to the Nike LeBron, which is revered for its robust innovative upgrades like Dynamic Flywire, Hyperfuse, full-length Zoom and much, much more.  So while it would be nice for Nike to celebrate ten years of LeBron in some way, is a bringback of the early models – namely the Air Zoom Generation that LeBron himself wore just a few days ago – the way to do it? There’s more to come for sure, so check out the video that LeBron James himself took for his IG followers and let us know what your expectations are for a LeBron Retro movement.

While the Jordan Brand athletes head out to China and Kobe enjoys some downtime in Europe, LeBron James and Nike has decided to hit up the Philippines for a special “Witness History” Tour, which features some cool in-store events as well as some live demos of the King on a basketball court. His time out there has already resulted in a couple of killer sneaker exhibits, including that set of incredible customs and this, a collection of player exclusives and rare pairs from King James’ career (definitely some gems in here, most of which can be seen in Justin Amazing’s collection). Starting all the way back at the Nike Air Zoom Generation, the display includes hard to track down fare like the Nike Zoom LeBron IV “Fruity Pebbles”, the “Denim” Nike LeBron 8, and the not-quite-player-exclusive Nike LeBron X “MVP”. See the sneakers after the jump and let us know if you own any of these rare LeBrons, and stay tuned for more recaps from Nike and Jordan Brand’s plans overseas.

Four LeBron James MVP Awards, Four Nike MVP Sneakers

May 7th, 2013 by | 10 comments

lebron james nike mvp sneakers Four LeBron James MVP Awards, Four Nike MVP Sneakers

LeBron James joined one of the most exclusive classes in NBA history when he was awarded the 2012-2013 Kia NBA MVP trophy this past Sunday. His fourth award rightfully places his name alongside other legends like Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Wilt Chamberlain, and what’s even more impressive is that LeBron has the potential to win more MVP trophies down the road and perhaps end his career with the most in NBA history (he would need seven to do so – Kareem’s got six). But in 2013, what separates LeBron from the rest is that his signature shoe line has grown rapidly since he won his first trophy, with Nike fashioning a special edition version of each signature shoe model (MJ had a signature line, but never a solo “MVP” colorway).

What Do You Think?: Nike LeBron Retro

March 21st, 2013 by | 65 comments

nike lebron retro what do you think summary What Do You Think?: Nike LeBron Retro

Earlier today LeBron James went “Retro” for the first time in a while and brought out the Nike Zoom LeBron VI “Fairfax” for his return to Cleveland. The Ken Link-designed Nike Zoom LeBron VI was the last of the LeBrons before it moved onto the era of Jason Petrie – a move that made LeBrons much more popular by a noticeable degree and solidifed the Nike LeBron as the flagship name and model for Nike Basketball. With consumers chasing down LeBron releases at a faster rate than ever before and the recent unveiling of the Nike LeBron X Elite bringing in even more excitement to the LBJ label, we’d like to continue our “What Do You Think?” series by posing the thought of a Nike LeBron Retro. Is the timing perfect? Is it too early?
