NIKE ZOOM ROOKIE LWP The Nike Zoom Rookie LWP is a hybrid design in Nike’s Air Penny line that first debuted in 2011, combining the silhouettes of the Nike Air Flight One and Nike Air Go LWP. The resulting sneaker has been one of the more celebrated new-era Foamposite releases.

It took longer than expected, but Nike Air Penny fans will finally receive a Royal Blue colorway of the Nike Zoom Rookie! Remember, the initially buzz-growing colorway was the infamous ‘Glow In The Dark’ edition, which was followed by the in-line ‘Binary Blue’, but since those two served as the debut, we haven’t seen anything ‘Royal’ in terms of Zoom Rookie colorways since. Penny’s 1-of-1 ‘Memphis Blues’ was the lone exception, but thankfully that ’1-of-1′ designation slowly unraveled into a wide releases, going down this weekend. Be sure to cop these this Saturday at Nike Sportswear retailers like Social Status, so check out these new close-up angles below and secure yours now by snagging one on eBay.

Originally a “one-of-one” made just for Mr. Hardaway himself, the “Memphis Blues” colorway of the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP began popping up over the last few months, indirectly pointing at a future release. A Zoom Rookie was in fact confirmed by Nike for August, and today we can confirm that the Memphis Blues will in fact touch down this Saturday, August 4th at Nike Sportswear retailers like Foot Locker. Of course, another Zoom Rookie in the ‘Galaxy’ suit has kept the Zoom Rookie in our sights, but be advised that the tonal Game Royal colorway will in fact come available this weekend (another jam-packed Saturday of hot releases). Will you cop the Zoom Rookie ‘Memphis Blues’ above the Air Jordan IV White/Red, the WBF Fireberry Pack, or the Air Jordan J2K releases? Let us know and cop ‘em right now from yellownsxt on eBay.

If you take a look over at our extensive release dates page you’ll notice that there is indeed a Nike Zoom Rookie model dropping at the beginning of August. Which specific colorway that will be is uncertain at this point, but here’s to hoping we get our hands on the dipped ‘Memphis Blues’ pair pictured here. In recent weeks the sneaker has been battling it out with the likes of the matte red pair as far as singly blocked sneakers of this ilk, but we’ve gotta give the upper hand to the game royal at the moment based of the Nike Air Penny line‘s affinity for blue if nothing else. Click through with us to see the latest photos of the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP ‘Memphis Blues’ and keep in mind that you can indeed pick this pair up now from croatianstyle on eBay.

Just yesterday Sneaker News gave you a first look at a special-edition pair of the Air Jordan IV made for Gentry Humphrey with a brand-new logo done ‘Mars’ style and placed right by the ankle collar. However, that was just Part One of his Quai 54 heat, because he actually showed up to the first day of the event wearing the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP ‘Galaxy’; this sick PE was only seen on the feet of Penny Hardaway himself and on re-hashed customs, but it’s not surprising that NSW’s lead man has his own as well. More close-up shots of this sick sample below, so take a look and let us know if you think these are better than the Air Foamposite One version! Photo: Dem’d Ceaser Salad

One of the earlier ‘one-of-ones’ from the life cycle of the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP was the ‘Memphis Express’ PE that Penny Hardaway wore during the ‘Raising Dollars for Scholars’ charity basketball tournament back in August of 2011. While even rumors of a release haven’t made so much of a peep yet, the developing story of the ‘Memphis Blues’ Zoom Rookie, which began popping up overseas, led us to wonder if the Zoom Rookie had one final push before giving away to the Air Penny V. Today, we’re hit with another mysterious update from the LWP – this tonal-red colorway that features a matte finish rather than the glossy sheen from the ‘Memphis Express’ PE. Will these release? No word yet, but keep in tune to Sneaker News and we’ll keep you updates. Photos: marqueesole

At the time of Penny Hardaway’s NBA rookie season, the dominant trends in sneaker coloring all tended toward high contrast. From the Chicago Bulls black and red to the Michigan Wolverines navy and maize and even newfangled palettes like the grape-y Charlotte Hornets, the basketball world revolved around distinct color separation. And while the uniforms both fit and breathe better these days, team colors are still uniformly more like battle flags than fashion statements. Sneakers, on the other hand, have evolved to the point where even some of the most technical performance machines display the kind of subtlety perfected in the lifestyle market.
So if Penny were still a young Orlando Magic point guard, he might show up in something like this ‘Memphis Blues’ colorway of the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP that reminds us Hardaway’s hometown college also rocks a blue-based look. They’ve got the tonal look down pat and a translucent outsole punctuates the Foamposite elements in a way that makes you wonder how a tonal Foamposite One or Pro might look. Those might be a way off, and this ‘Memphis Blues’ Zoom Rookie has us still awaiting an official release date, so stick with Sneaker News for updates and check out some new images in the meantime.
