Sneaker News just scooped you on the December 21st release date for the white/black colorway, which means that’s almost certainly the final Nike Zoom Rookie LWP drop of 2011. So while we’re waiting for days to get longer after the winter solstice, we’ll also be eagerly awaiting the arrival of yet more brightness in the form of the ‘Dynamic Blue’ Zoom Rookies. This palette has a frosty appearance that’d be perfect any time during the winter season, though their vibrant primary color is also the kind of thing you’d expect to see during the hottest summer days. So you’re looking now at one of those shoes that you can not only keep in your rotation, but one that’ll continue to break necks even as they age. Halloween in mid-November? Anything’s possible at Foot Locker’s House of Hoops, where a concept catering to hardcore basketball fans and sneakerheads has now expanded to most of the largest US cities. The latest HoH exclusive will have you remembering all the fun you had dressing up in costumes in late October, this new black and Max Orange Nike Zoom Rookie about as close as the Air Penny super-hybrid can get to a jack-o-lantern. They’ll light up the morning as malls across the country open when “Kicksmas comes early” to all House of Hoops locations right around the time the early bird lap-walking crew calls it a day.

Last week, the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP in the Binary Blue colorway hit stores, marking the official wide launch of the latest Air Penny shoe. Going back to the slightly more limited distribution is the ‘Max Orange’ colorway of the Zoom Rookie that we showed you in September; the quote the very first comment left by a Sneaker News reader, “These are *expletive* gorgeous”. Well, you can finally get these on your feet because these are currently scheduled to drop this Friday, November 18th, exclusively at Foot Locker House of Hoops retailers. To glow or not to glow: that is the question. The Zoom Rookie LWP officially kicked off with the limited Glow In The Dark colorway, but if you missed out on that release, the White/Black colorway should satiate your appetite entirely (if not completely). The White/Black color combination is a throwback to one of the original Air Go LWP colorways (which actually featured a minor hint of purple), but when placed on Foamposite material, it’s got that ‘Pearl’ vibe, doesn’t it? If you’ve been looking to add the Zoom Rookie to your collection, December 21st is the date to mark on your calendar (quite the placement – smack in the middle of the Last Shot and Concord releases). The ‘other’ NBA season continued down in Florida when Dwight Howard hosted the D12 Foundation Celebrity All-Star Game at the the University of Central Florida. This game featured a bit of a twist; the two teams were divided up into New School and Old School, with the former consisting of current NBA players and the latter featuring former NBA stars like Penny Hardaway and Steve Francis. The kicks spotted on court had a heavy ‘Air Penny’ theme, as Penny himself wore the Nike Zoom Rookie ‘Memphis Blues’ during warm-ups and switched up to the all-white Foamposite One 1-of-1 PEs for the game. Other notables included Lil’ Wayne’s Binary Blue Zoom Rookies (he coached the ‘New School’ squad) and Earl Clark’s Glow In The Darks, Gilbert Arenas’ Air Jordan VI ‘Orlando’ Customs, Steve Franchise’s Air Jordan 8.0, Quentin Richardson’s Air Jordan XI ‘DMP’, and Dwight Howard’s adiPower Howard. If you caught Wednesday night’s feature post on the Nike Basketball and Training releases from the 90′s, you would’ve noticed the Nike Air Go LWP among that impressive cluster of sneakers. The Air Go LWP, while an important player in the design of the Zoom Rookie LWP, isn’t exactly an official Air Penny shoe. In fact, the Air Go LWP was a favorite of a number of NBA players at the time – guys like Tim Hardaway, Reggie Miller, and a number of other speedy guards rocked these lightweight beauties. But with Penny being such a memorable name in an era dominated by Michael Jordan, we often associate the Air Go LWP with him, which is a big reason why it was used as a design foundation for the Zoom Rookie LWP. Tomorrow is the official release date for the wide-release of the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP, and how fitting is it that the colorway is in remembrance of Penny’s days in Orlando? Does Foamposite material fall under the category of Lightweight Performance? The Nike Advanced Product Engineering team was searching for a lightweight material that was also easier to manufacture, and Foamposite is what they stumbled upon – a solid, heat-activated material that would gradually mold to the foot. Similarly, the Air Go LWP featured a new cushioning unit that shed excess weight – a cushioning unit that would be later called ‘Zoom Air’. The Nike Zoom Rookie LWP combines the LWP standard with the revolutionary Foamposite material, creating a lifestyle-driven sneaker with plenty of performance credentials, meaning these would be totally rockable on the court. This upcoming colorway of Dynamic Blue and Wolf Grey is a slight spin off the Air Penny flagship colorway of Royal Blue and Black, and this new set of detailed images proves that the minor deviation is one that is certainly welcome to the Penny family.
