Gourmet Kickz apparently wasn’t content with porting over the Nike LeBron 9 “China” look onto to just one sneaker. This time around he’s jumping the fiery blue and red look over onto the Nike Air Penny line via this Nike Zoom Rookie creation. The “Chinese Penny” pours the red in on the pods, a common place that we’ve seen bossman Chef go to with all sorts of glow-in-the-dark and hand painted looks on this model. No, this is not just another ‘Galaxy’ custom. Instead of just floating amongst the stars, the Nike Zoom Rookie from Gourmet Kickz is tethered to a specific body out in the solar system. The sneaker takes on a moon print that extends all the way to the insoles, and is a special order for Denver Broncos offensive tackle Ryan Clady. Next up in the sneaker custom factory is this AF1King production of the Nike Zoom Rookie inspired by the upcoming “Man of Steel” film. With a clear tie to Superman and some inspiration taken from 2011′s Air Jordan IV ‘Doernbecher’, AF1King takes the ‘Memphis Blues’ colorway of the Zoom Rookie to new heights by implemented the ‘S’ badge on the tongue with green kryptonite colorings on the tongue and outsole. Completing the design is the glow-in-the-dark moon pods and the tongue, giving off that attractive yet deadly hue of green. Now that pairs like the Nike Air Foamposite One and the Nike Air Foamposite Pro are being outfitted in camo looks, is there any chance we’ll see the same treatment extended to the Nike Zoom Rookie? You could wait to see if that ever happens at retail or you could take a look at this pair whipped up by Gourmet Kickz. The camo used is a digital print borrowed from the US SOCOM military squads. New York Giants Wide Receiver Victor Cruz went from being a walk-on to the practice squad to being a Super Bowl Champion and one of a very select group of Nike athletes to represent the Nike x NFL partnership. Cruz has also gained some incredible notoriety in sneaker circles as he’s been spotted with an impressive rotation of sneakers in the name of Foams, Yeezys, Jordans, LeBrons, and more. He recently got a hook-up from fellow NJ-native Jason Negron aka Sole Swap, who presented him with a duet of Zoom Rookie customs done in NY Giants colorways and other details like Cruz’s jersey number on the heel and the Sole Swap logo on the tongue by Rebel Aire. Consider it a belated Black Friday treat from the good folks at Foot Locker, who have decided to bring back some of the more ‘Galaxy’ styles from this year at a couple House of Hoops spots. The Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 ‘Galaxy’ for one Blake Griffin will be up for grabs, as will the just released Nike Zoom Rookie ‘Galaxy’. The only trick is that you’ve gotta go to one of two locations (the Harlem and Beverly Center spots) to pick up a raffle ticket. Everything ‘Galaxy’ has to this point been about as difficult to get your hands on as a ticket to the international space station, and some are even rarer than the rest. Take for example Sole Collector’s special edition ‘Galaxy’ Nike Zoom Rookie, whose glow-in-the-dark AFOne pods are considerably rarer and thus more valuable than the black-inserted edition. But instead of starting with the SC edition, Chef of GourmetKickz (he of ‘Rook O Lantern’ fame) added a pale green color to the pods, with one of two of his GITD-treated styles adding the phosphorescent effect to the bubbles for an even spacier feel. The insets shine like supernovas amidst a starry field, and you can see both versions of the ‘Galaxy’ Zoom Rookie Custom up close after the jump below.

While the release of the Nike Zoom Rookie “Galaxy” still up in the air thanks to a recent postponement by Nike, where will we get our Zoom Rookie fill? Don’t get your undies in a bunch because Nike just confirmed the release date of the vibrant ‘Matte Red’, or officially the Varsity Red/Varsity Red-Black-Tourmaline colorway to be November 10th. While not nearly as enticing as the Galaxy version, the tonal-red as well as the Christmas-esque Tourmaline green laces is still energetic enough to garner plenty of attention when the 11/10 release day arrives. Have you been patiently waiting for these after these supposed ’1-of-1′s were first spotted nearly a year ago? If so, cop them in advance from ny_5thavenue on eBay.
