There are so many dope colorways on tap for the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP; could the very first one to hit retail in November turn out to be the best of the bunch?  The darker shade cast by Binary Blue Foamposite on the Air Go LWP-shaped silhouette isn’t quite like any of the Air Penny blues or the OG Dark Neon Royal Foamposite One, which helps the Zoom Rookie feel connected to the Penny legacy while instantly signifying that this is something entirely new.  Click through so you can see some new images of this clear-and-carbon soled retro basketball hybrid from Nike Sportswear and stick with Sneaker News for updates on their availability.  via in52

Nike Zoom Rookie LWP – Black – Max Orange

It doesn’t stand a chance to win sneaker of the year going heads-up against the favorites Nike Mag 2011 and Air Jordan XI Retro ‘Concord’, but is there any doubt that the Nike Zoom Rookie is the most impressive hybrid design we’ve seen this year?  Not only is this mashup of the Go Flight LWP, Air Flight 1 and Air Foamposite One absolutely perfect in its combo construction, but there are enough impressive colorups on the way to suit anyone’s taste.  The latest would do perfectly with a late October release, and with the House of Hoops-exclusive tag rumored to carry along with it a limited run of 666 pairs, these might very well come out on top of next month’s list.  Have a closer look at the black and Max Orange Zoom Rookie after the jump and stick with Sneaker News for the US release date.  via osneaker

Nike Zoom Rookie – Binary Blue – Black – New Images

That it has yet to hit retail in even a single colorway but is already being discussed as perhaps the greatest hybrid sneaker design ever isn’t just hype. Like Anfernee ‘Penny’ Hardaway’s early days with the Orlando Magic, the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP is just that good. This Binary Blue colorup is a bit darker than the Varsity Royal and Atlantic Blue shades commonly associated with the Air Penny series, but the familiar shine of Foamposite cannot be denied, especially atop a translucent outsole. Take a look at some new shots after the jump, let us know how this new color ranks against the classics and other Foam favorites like the Eggplant edition and if you’re one of those sneakerheads who loves the feeling of being the first on your block with unreleased heat, grab these early from Kicks-crew or check out some that are floating around on eBay.

Already in the running to be one of the Top 30 Sneakers of 2011, the Nike Zoom Rookie has refreshed the Nike Air Penny line once again with this multi-dimensional hybrid sneaker combining numerous figments of Anfernee Hardaway’s sneaker history. Just yesterday we showed you a brand new ‘Eggplant’ colorway of the Zoom Rookie, but as we’ve stated before, it’s the Orlando Magic-inspired Blue/Black/White that is the true barometer of the legitimacy of a Nike sneaker worthy enough to don the famous 1-Cent logo. In this new detailed gallery of this November 12th release, it’s quite clear that the folks at Nike Sportswear did another bang-up job in creating a hybrid sneaker (Jordan Brand, take notes), as all of the components – Air Flight One, Air Go LWP, Air Foamposite One – equally share the spotlight and work harmoniously to create one helluva hybrid sneaker. We’ve got a detailed look ahead, so take a thorough look and let us know what you think. via hoopchina.

Nike Zoom Rookie LWP ‘Eggplant’

The Nike Air Penny legacy continues forward this Holiday 2011 season with the debut of the Nike Zoom Rookie – an all-new hybrid shoe combining iconic sneakers of Penny Hardaway’s history with contemporary styling and design. You’ve already seen several colorways of the Zoom Rookie, like the Orlando Magic-inspired Binary Blue, the ‘Glow in the Dark‘, and the vibrant tonal-red ‘Memphis Express’ PE, but here’s a look at another colorway that you might’ve already had in mind. The Nike Zoom Rookie in the ‘Eggplant’ colorway shares nearly identical color-blocking as the Binary Blue version, showcasing the pearly-smooth purple Foamposite on the upper. The glossy nature of the material is only accentuated by slightly opaque nature of the translucent outsole, creating a unique visual contrast that has made Foamposites so darn popular over the years. Check out the extra shot of the Eggplant colorway of the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP and head to SoleCollector for a great interview with Marc Dolce and Zach Hull – the designers of the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP.

While heads from the Washington DC area like to lay claim to being the first region to really rep the various Foamposite sneakers, the rest of the world has caught up in the past few years due to Nike’s increased focus on this futuristic material. With that being said the latest in the line, the Nike Zoom Rookie shown here in Binary Blue/Black, is posit-ively gorgeous. The aforementioned Binary Blue is a few shades off from the go-to colors for Penny models, landing somewhere between Varsity Royal and Eggplant. And while this is a hybrid model, the successes of previous models in the Air Penny line are remain: carbon fiber plating, icy soles, half-cent logo. Hit the jump for a better look and if you are itching to reserve a pair now they can be had at RMK.

Nike Zoom Rookie – Orlando Colorways

August 16th, 2011 by | 27 comments

nike zoom rookie orlando colorways 09 Nike Zoom Rookie Orlando Colorways

It seems as if all of the Penny inspired shoes must go through a stage of christening with a few classic Orlando Magic colorways. We’ve come to rely on some combination of White/Blue/Black to gauge the success of new models or retroed pieces from the Nike vault. Well, based on the recently revealed White/Royal and Binary Blue/Black editions of the Nike Zoom Rookie, this one is a keeper. The White/Royal version nearly mimics the Nike Air Penny II ‘Atlantic’ with similar success, with the watery blues wrapping the lace system and ankle area. Hit the jump for a detailed look at the two new colorways of the Nike Zoom Rookie with a sweet on-foot image of the Binary Blue colorway, alongside another classic from the Penny arsenal, the Foamposite One. via KickzLab
