Nike Inc.’s Binary Blue shade has been around for a while now, but because ofthe tendency for any of Penny Hardaway’s Nike Sportswear retros or hybrids to release in an Orlando Magic-friendly Varsity Royal, this subtle shift shade seems somewhat strange. The Binary Blue Foamposite on this upcoming Nike Zoom Rookie mashup appeared even darker, leaning toward a metallic navy when presented on a black background. But this new set of images reveals a color that, while not a royal blue (more of a dark cobalt, really), is perhaps closer to the Air Penny legacy than we’d realized. We’ve mentioned before that a Nike Penny shoe must be seen in that trademark Black/Blue colorway for a solid judgement to be passed. We’ve seen an Orlando-inspired White/Royal/Silver and a funky Glow-in-the-dark version, but here’s a look at the upcoming Binary Blue/Black-White colorway – one that we’ve all been dying to see on the Nike Zoom Rookie. It’s got a slightly darker tone than the Dark Neon Royal we’re used to seeing on the Foamposite One, but you can still get that ‘Royal Foamposite’ motif as the Binary Blue colorway is paired with black and a translucent outsole. Check out the detailed images of this upcoming mid-November release and stick with Sneaker News for more updates. via kicks-lab.

Earlier today Sneaker News gave you a look at the Nike Zoom Rookie in the glow-in-the-dark Luminous Pearl White colorway. However interesting or creative that shoe is, we can only judge a Nike Penny shoe in one way – by viewing it in a classic Orlando Magic get-up. Here’s another look at the Nike Zoom Rookie in the upcoming White/Royal/Silver colorway; it features a two-toned White/Royal upper, similar to one of the original colorways of the Air Go LWP, and uses a translucent outsole with a black carbon fiber midfoot plate and metallic silver ‘pods’ on the upper. Still waiting for a tonal-blue colorway? That will have to wait until November, but stick with Sneaker News for more NIke Zoom Rookie updates. via MarqueeSole.

The Nike Air Foamposite One and Pro appear to be done for the year after their ‘Retro’ and ‘Dark Pine’ releases, respectively, but that doesn’t mean Nike Sportswear is done revisiting the mid/late ’90s space age material in 2011. The Nike Zoom Rookie applies Foamposite material to the shape of the Air Go LWP, adds in the ‘swiss cheese’ pods from the Air Flight 1 and adds a carbon fiber suspension plate and translucent outsole just like the OG Foams. This glow in the dark Luminous Pearl White edition lights up the night like Penny Hardaway did in his early Orlando Magic days, and you can see more when you click the jump below. Let us know how these rank against the other colorways we’ve seen and stick with Sneaker News for the Zoom Rookie release dates. via HC

Both having come to prominence on the national level at around the same time, it’s interesting to note the parallels between Nike athletes Ken Griffey Jr. and Anfernee ‘Penny’ Hardaway. Both were among the elite young talents in their sports and dominated for a period into the mid/late ’90s, but were both felled by injuries that prevented each player’s full potential from being realized. And though Griffey’s is an unquestionable Hall of Fame career while Penny remains a modern legend, it’s also worth noting that both of these guys rocked a few ‘unsigned’ signature sneakers with the Swoosh before moving to their own named lines. For Penny, models like the Air Go LWP and Flight 1 served as a base before the Air Penny line was launched, and now they’re being combined with his other famous offshoot with the Foamposite-bodied Nike Zoom Rookie. This colorway pictured above is easily the craziest we’ve seen so far, the Foamposite sections of which glow in the dark for one of the most thoroughly impressive hybrids Nike Sportswear has released. In March, Sneaker News gave you a look at the Nike Zoom Rookie, the next signature hybrid shoe to come out of the Nike Air Penny line. Penny Hardaway’s Nike Basketball pedigree is among one of the greatest of all time, and with the success of his most recent hybrid shoe (the Nike Air 1/2 Cent), the Zoom Rookie could not have come at a better time. The Nike Zoom Rookie features design elements from the sneakers Penny wore during his rookie season in 1993-94, namely the Nike Air Go LWP and Nike Air Flight One. Sneaker News previously showed you an interesting yellow/black sample pair of the Zoom Rookie, but here we get a look at a White/Metallic Silver colorway as well as a tonal red version that is currently set for an August 2011 release. Check out the extra image below and let us know what you think of this next Penny Hardaway hybrid shoe. via Iam1Cent.
