At the moment, Northern New Jersey’s Teaneck Armory is serving as a refuge for those without homes and power from Hurricane Sandy, but almost half a century ago, it was the home of the New Jersey Americans. The now defunct ABA basketball team played in the Armory from 1967-1968 before eventually moving on and becoming the NJ Nets, and as a tribute to the longstanding structure, another Teaneck institution, Packer Shoes, will be paying tribute with their latest sneaker collaboration. Packer has teamed up with adidas Originals for a contemporary new spin on the classic Conductor Hi model, giving it a luxurious makeover with a patriotic look that ties in both the Teaneck Armory and the long gone NJ Americans bball franchise. Keep reading for a look at some teaser pics shot on the actual Teaneck Armory grounds and stay tuned for detailed images and full release info coming soon.

A year ago, a campout (or a line-up of any kind) wouldn’t normally happen for a Reebok shoe, but thanks to Swizz Beatz at the helm and a concerted effort by Reebok Classics to get in touch with the sneakerhead constituency, a major attitude change has surfaced around the once-dominant brand. Credit the Reebok Question, arguably the most popular Reebok Basketball sneaker of all-time, and the mix of collaborations and OG releases for bringing Reebok ‘back’, and if you see this recap from this weekend’s release of the Packer Shoes x Reebok Question ‘Practice’, you’ll know that these high profile Reeboks will take a bit more work to acquire. Where Burn Rubber chose to create a character to pay homage with via the Reebok Question, the mighty Packer Shoes has instead decided to craft up a colorway inspired by real life legend Allen Iverson. The shoe pictured grabs its name from a particularly memorable off-court moment in AI’s career, that press conference clip in which practice was the main topic of inquiry much to the chagrin of Iverson. The sneaker stirs up a clean 76ers-inspired colorway, cramming in plenty of extra details like the starry insoles, ’7′ and ’6′ hits on the heel, and the bit of 3M splashed onto the paneling. Click through for a look at the Packer Shoes x Reebok Question ‘Practice Edition’ release, as well as the awesome tees to go with, and mark your calendars that they will be dropping at the Teaneck, NJ shop come next Friday, October 19th.

“I’m supposed to be the franchise player, and we in here talkin’ about practice! I mean, listen, we talkin’ about practice. Not a game. Not a game. Not a game. We talkin’ about practice.”
The press conference clip is infamous. Allen Iverson‘s heart, toughness and love for the game of basketball are indisputable, but when it came to his feelings about practice … well, let’s just say he wasn’t losing any sleep over it. Over the course of his legendary career, an undersized AI regularly drove to the hole into a forest of frontcourt trees with reckless abandon and no regard for the beating he would take as a result. He left it all on the court every night and played hurt on a regular basis, so can you blame him for not being all that worried about the further abuse his body would take in practice, not to mention the extra miles it would put on his game kicks.
Years later, Packer Shoes has teamed up with Reebok to present the Question Mid “Practice Edition”, a shoe designed for AI to wear on the practice floor, that may or may not have ever been worn for those purposes. From the nubuck upper and classic Sixers color scheme to the 7/6 Philly nod on the heels, the 3M midpanel hit to the rising star motif found on the toe and insoles – why would anyone ever want to scuff or crease these up in the name of practice of all things? Well, now the choice will be yours as these will be hitting the public for whatever activities your heart desires, practice or otherwise. These will probably not make your teammates better, but they’ll look good doing it, so stay tuned for further release info on this juicy October drop coming soon.
