The stateside profile of Asics’ various retro silhouettes has been on a steady rise for a number of years now. While their classic Gel cushioned runners definitely built the foundation for this, it’s no secret that the various collab partners who have chipped in with their special edition designs helped build up the brand’s lifestyle efforts. Quite a few of those pairs remain relatively obscure today though, seeing as how the era of their debut was a pretty different one for footwear enthusiasts. On top of that, the collaborators have historically skewed non-American, so the distribution of these sort of pairs was usually a bit harsh for Yankees. But it’s a new day for Asics in the US; more and more shops have them around and more and more of us are checking for them.

Is It Worth It? A Look Back at Crazy Sneaker Releases and Campouts

crazy sneaker releases Is It Worth It? A Look Back at Crazy Sneaker Releases and Campouts

In preparation of today’s in-store release of the Supreme Foamposites, hordes of sneakerheads and brand loyalists gathered at the store locations in New York and Los Angeles with hopes of acquiring a pair in person. The mayhem at the NYC location forced the NYPD the cancel the in-store release in New York due to safety concerns, and the thousands that showed up were forced to go home and wait for the online release. The events that unfolded are a reminder that Nike’s efforts to keep these types of releases strictly digital have produced positive results, especially with the higher frequency of high profile items. However not everything can be done through an RSVP or Twitter Link Only system, and there was a time when chaos on release dates was to be expected.

Daley Thompson and Sebastian Coe aren’t household names like Michael Jordan or even Usain Bolt, but these men are unforgettable to serious sports fans.  Both guys won Olympic golds in both the 1980 and ’84 Games in their respective disciplines (decathlon and 1500M), so with the latter’s 30th anniversary this year, it’s a good time to resurrect a shoe both men endorsed.  The Patta x Diadora N9000 also serves as a tenth anniversary celebration for the Dutch sneaker boutique, which uses premium Made in Italy versions of the original materials in a blue, white, black, grey and red colorway that includes an ‘Sn’ footbed graphic said to represent Patta’s 10th (though that element’s atomic number is 50).  Click in for a closer view and be ready for these to release at their Amsterdam boutique and online on Saturday. Also, be sure to check out the Patta x Stussy pop up in NYC that’s opening tomorrow, January 23rd.

patta sneaker collaborations 07 Complexs A Complete History of Patta Sneaker Collaborations

Last July, the news of Patta closing its doors came as a surprise to many; the store, in fact, is one of the most recognizable and respected names in streetwear and footwear on the global level, and anything they’ve touched has been spun into gold. Their Air Max 1 collaborations are arguably the best of all-time, their Asics collabs are bangers, and even as one of several stores to work on the Reebok Workout Pack, their pony-haired surprise stood above the rest. Well, Patta recently reopened in a new location, so Complex decided to take a look back at all the Patta sneaker collabs of the past with the help of Patta’s own  DJ Masta Lee. We’ve picked out some of the gems below, but check out the full list at Complex.
