“When I got on Nike, it was like the world just opened up. It was insane.”

Nike Skateboarding didn’t start the sneaker craze, but it was certainly the catalyst that made ‘collecting’ into an insane hobby. Already boasting a talented team of riders like Reese Forbes and Danny Supa, Nike SB didn’t go the signature sneaker route until the brand signed on young phenom Paul Rodriguez. In this latest feature called ‘Footnotes’ by The Berrics, P-Rod talks about overall ride with Nike, his favorite signature shoes, his first ever Nike sneakers, and the overall reception of his joining the Swoosh (he addresses the ‘sell-out’ comments), so peep the full video below and if you haven’t caught our interview with Paul Rodriguez last month, check it out here.

sneaker news goes 1 on 1 with p rod 1 Sneaker News Exclusive P Rod Interview

Eric Koston, Stefan Janoski, Omar Salazar… the Nike SB line boasts an impressive roster of talent with their current lineup of signature models, but in the beginning, there was only one. Despite having six signature Nike models under his belt and just capturing his 4th X Games gold medal, when it comes to his skateboarding success and high-profile sponsorship endorsements, Paul Rodriguez Jr. still feels like a kid who “hit the lotto.” The humble 27 year-old superstar is quite aware of how lucky he is to be living the dream, and there’s no question that he has put in the hard work to get where he is – and not just work on his board.

Paul likes to get very hands on with the design of his signature Nike shoes and it’s clear that he goes all out to ensure the best performance possible. P-Rod knows his shoes inside and out. He knows what he’s looking for and what to ask for, and the results are evident in a solid catalog of shoes that he feels keep getting better and better. We recently had the chance to catch up with Paul to chat about his new shoe, the recently released P-Rod 6, as well as his early days with Nike SB, his all-time favorite sneakers and the eventual legacy of the Nike P-Rod line. For all this and more, continue on for the full Sneaker News interview with Paul Rodriguez after the jump.

Nike P-Rod 6 – New June 2012 Colorways

One of the standouts of Nike SB’s current taxonomical shuffling of sorts is that its longest-running signature model, the Nike P-Rod, has completely shed the ‘SB’ tag. It’s entirely clear that Paul Rodriguez still skateboards, so the P-Rod is undeniably a skateshoe despite what name it has (or hasn’t). The West Coast-based skater will continue to ride for the Swoosh, even if his shoe is now under a broader ‘action sports’ umbrella rather than a specific skateboarding category, so that’s all that really matters, right? Three new colorways of P-Rod’s sixth signature model just hit Nike retailers, so take a look below and head to one of the most revered retailers of the game in Skate Park of Tampa to secure yours.

Nike Lunar Rod – Holiday 2012

Major changes are in plans for Nike Skateboarding’s pro-model product lines, but already making that transition is the P-Rod, which already shed the ‘SB’ tag some time ago. Moving on from ‘Skate’ to the ‘Overall Comfort’ sector is the Nike Lunar Rod, currently slated for a Holiday 2012 release at wider chain retailers. It features a P-Rod 6 upper with a re-designed outsole that combines the LunarLon from the P-Rod 6 skate shoe with the boots ole of the Nike snowboarding boots. These will definitely be a comfortable casual shoe at the very least, but how will it far on the skate-deck? And whatever happened to the SB P-Rod V Lunar? Check out the extra angles below and stick with Sneaker News for more updates. via n-sb

Welcome to the #KobeSystem – Behind the Scenes

welcome to the kobe system behind the scenes Welcome to the #KobeSystem Behind the Scenes

“Where do you go from the top? You go . . . over the top.”

And what if you’re already really successful? Just thank Kobe Bryant. The Black Mamba formally welcomed us to the #KobeSystem over the weekend in a tongue-in-cheek setting that blends a Tony Robbins-style motivational speech with a bit of Oprah under-your-seat giveaway. Tony himself was on hand, as were a bunch of other extremely successful folks like Sir Richard Branson, Kanye West, Paul Rodriguez and Serena Williams, along with the comic stylings of Aziz Ansari. You might not think that a quirkily ironic video like this would even need comic relief, but Aziz’ lines are well placed and bring us full-circle on all the teaser videos we saw last week. Click through to see more and be on the lookout for more Nike Kobe VII System ’testimonial’ videos in the weeks to come.
