It’s rather interesting to know that Nike’s most popular signature athlete of the 1990′s had just four signature shoes (and one unofficial sig – the Air Foamposite One). It’s true that the Air Penny volumes are rather short-lived, but it’s safe to say that the brief account is one of the most celebrated of all-time. With the massive success of the Foamposite as well as the first two Air Penny models, it can leave us wondering the potential of a longer legacy of Air Pennys. In what some might perceive as an unprecedented move, Nike Basketball is poised to introduced the fifth Air Penny signature – the Nike Air Penny V; this first clear look at the recently trending topic reveals quite a number of familiar design cues from the Penny line and post-Penny productions, like the rounded outsole and ridged midsole.

It’s almost as if the design co. picked up right where they left off, which is probably why the Air Penny V looks so darn familiar. What many may not realize is that there was in fact a fifth Air Penny shoe that, at the outset, was intended to continue the Air Penny line, but it never bore the name – that shoe is none other than the Nike Air 3 LE, which is commonly known as one of Kevin Garnett’s signature shoes. nike air foamposite one white Penny Confirms White Foamposites Are On The Way

MTV isn’t particularly known to cover sneakers or the fast-growing culture, but when an MTV correspondent ran into Penny Hardaway at a recent event, he felt compelled to ask the Foamposite originator a few questions regarding the massive craze behind the sneaker and about Penny’s personal favorite colorway. During this short interview, Penny Hardaway states that his favorite is the all-white Foamposite (also a PE he rocked back in the day), alluding to the PE he wore in mid-October, and then noted that the shoe would in fact be arriving, bringing us full circle to his original statement made regarding an all-white Foamposite during a recent radio interview. It seems that Penny himself is a bit taken back by the Foam-nomenon, as he humbly admits that he “never could have thought, in a million years” that Foams would reach the level of popularity we see today. Thoughts on an all-white Foamposite? Check out the video below and let us know what you think.

Nike Air Foamposite One – Penny Hardaway ‘Shooting Stars’ All-Star PE

February 24th, 2012 by | 58 comments

nike air foamposite one shooting stars all star pe Nike Air Foamposite One Penny Hardaway Shooting Stars All Star PE

With the 2012 NBA All-Star Game taking place in Orlando, Penny Hardaway called in a favor to NSW designer Mark Dolce (who designed the Zoom Rookie) for a special 1-of-1 PE. The design was inspired by Penny’s celebrated tenure with the Orlando Magic, and with Penny partaking in some of the All-Star Weekend festivities, he needed some Foamposites to fit the occasion. Here’s a look at the Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Shooting Stars’ All-Star PE; it features a white Foamposite upper reminiscent of one of Penny’s legendary OG Player Exclusives, but with a unique star detailing on the black lace placket. The interior is lined with royal blue, with special insoles that read ‘Ballin is what I was born to do’ and a sick ‘Penny’ logo inspired by the classic Orlando Magic logo. The translucent outsole also gives way to additional star detailing embedded on the bottom of the outsole. Sickest Air Foamposite you’ve seen? Hope you caught ‘em during the second half of the Celebrity All-Star Game, but if you didn’t, we’ve got a detailed look below. via SoleCollector

Nike Zoom Huarache 2K4 – Penny Hardaway New York Knicks PE

February 6th, 2012 by | 5 comments

nike huarache 2k4 penny pe 8 Nike Zoom Huarache 2K4 Penny Hardaway New York Knicks PE

One of the trending topics in 2012 is the re-release of the Nike Zoom Huarache 2k4, an era-defining sneaker considered by many to be one of Nike’s greatest on-court creations of all-time. It directed the Nike Basketball line into the direction of sleeker, sexier lines that we see manifested in current editions like the Nike Hyperdunk series and other Zoom Hyper products, so while the Huarache 2k4 never did release again since its coming-out yet in 2004, the spirit of the shoe continued to live on. Of course, news of the Retro was definitely exciting news, but it also brings to light some sick PEs from the past that you may have forgotten about, like this Penny Hardaway PE that he wore during his brief stint as a New Yorker. It features the do-no-wrong colorway of Black/Orange/Blue with his One-Cent logo embedded onto the heels for that personalized touch. We’ve got extra images for you below so take a gander and see what the asking price in this listingĀ from joeal0227 on eBay.

1-of-1 no more: Chris Crawford, star guard of the Memphis Tigers, was spotted during last night’s contest against Rice University wearing the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP ‘Memphis Blues’, a PE colorway made exclusively for Penny Hardaway for the Nike Las Vegas ‘Penny Pack’ event. It was originally understood that the ‘Memphis Blues’ as well as the tonal-red ‘Memphis Express’ were 1-of-1s, meaning only Penny had them in possession, but it appears that Mr. Hardaway is showing the promising young prospect some love. Not much from the game has been released, except for the details regarding the bench-clearing altercation, but a clutch heads-up from ShermHJr gives us a nice shot of Crawford wearing them in-game. Would you cop of the Memphis Blues colorway released? Let us know in the comments section below.

Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Knicks’ Customs By Jason Negron

January 12th, 2012 by | 24 comments

nike air foamposite one knicks customs 6 Nike Air Foamposite One Knicks Customs By Jason Negron

If only Jason Negron made these customs back in 2004-2005, Penny Hardaway would have rocked these when he was playing for the New York Knicks. Jason Negron, the ‘re-animator’ of Foamposites, hits us over seven years after Penny’s NYK tenure with these ‘Knicks’ customs, which feature a timeless Royal Air Foamposite One with orange dyed soles and matching accents on the heel-tab, tongue-tab, and on the wavy stitched applique on the tongue. Anything Blue and Orange seems to take a shoe to another level of awesomeness, and this thorough detailing of the ‘Knicks’ custom Foamposite One is proof that there are still more Foamposites to be made, despite recent comments made by the sneaker community that the Foamposite may have seen one too many releases. For Knicks fans, lovers of Blue/Orange colorways, or Foamposite fanatics, this latest Jason Negron creation is one that’ll stop you in your tracks, so check out the detailed gallery below and let us know if you think these are better than his Gucci or Light-Up customs. Want your own pair of custom Foams? Hit up Jason through his Sole Swap Facebook page.
