PENNY HARDAWAY Penny Hardaway is a former NBA player who played most famously for the Orlando Magic. The Nike Air Penny line of sneakers designed for and played in by Hardaway first introduced the world to the Foamposite technology, a molded material that has amassed a cult following thanks to increased retro treatment in recent years.

With the 2012 NBA All-Star Game taking place in Orlando, Penny Hardaway called in a favor to NSW designer Mark Dolce (who designed the Zoom Rookie) for a special 1-of-1 PE. The design was inspired by Penny’s celebrated tenure with the Orlando Magic, and with Penny partaking in some of the All-Star Weekend festivities, he needed some Foamposites to fit the occasion. Here’s a look at the Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Shooting Stars’ All-Star PE; it features a white Foamposite upper reminiscent of one of Penny’s legendary OG Player Exclusives, but with a unique star detailing on the black lace placket. The interior is lined with royal blue, with special insoles that read ‘Ballin is what I was born to do’ and a sick ‘Penny’ logo inspired by the classic Orlando Magic logo. The translucent outsole also gives way to additional star detailing embedded on the bottom of the outsole. Sickest Air Foamposite you’ve seen? Hope you caught ‘em during the second half of the Celebrity All-Star Game, but if you didn’t, we’ve got a detailed look below. via SoleCollector

One of the trending topics in 2012 is the re-release of the Nike Zoom Huarache 2k4, an era-defining sneaker considered by many to be one of Nike’s greatest on-court creations of all-time. It directed the Nike Basketball line into the direction of sleeker, sexier lines that we see manifested in current editions like the Nike Hyperdunk series and other Zoom Hyper products, so while the Huarache 2k4 never did release again since its coming-out yet in 2004, the spirit of the shoe continued to live on. Of course, news of the Retro was definitely exciting news, but it also brings to light some sick PEs from the past that you may have forgotten about, like this Penny Hardaway PE that he wore during his brief stint as a New Yorker. It features the do-no-wrong colorway of Black/Orange/Blue with his One-Cent logo embedded onto the heels for that personalized touch. We’ve got extra images for you below so take a gander and see what the asking price in this listing from joeal0227 on eBay.

1-of-1 no more: Chris Crawford, star guard of the Memphis Tigers, was spotted during last night’s contest against Rice University wearing the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP ‘Memphis Blues’, a PE colorway made exclusively for Penny Hardaway for the Nike Las Vegas ‘Penny Pack’ event. It was originally understood that the ‘Memphis Blues’ as well as the tonal-red ‘Memphis Express’ were 1-of-1s, meaning only Penny had them in possession, but it appears that Mr. Hardaway is showing the promising young prospect some love. Not much from the game has been released, except for the details regarding the bench-clearing altercation, but a clutch heads-up from ShermHJr gives us a nice shot of Crawford wearing them in-game. Would you cop of the Memphis Blues colorway released? Let us know in the comments section below.

If only Jason Negron made these customs back in 2004-2005, Penny Hardaway would have rocked these when he was playing for the New York Knicks. Jason Negron, the ‘re-animator’ of Foamposites, hits us over seven years after Penny’s NYK tenure with these ‘Knicks’ customs, which feature a timeless Royal Air Foamposite One with orange dyed soles and matching accents on the heel-tab, tongue-tab, and on the wavy stitched applique on the tongue. Anything Blue and Orange seems to take a shoe to another level of awesomeness, and this thorough detailing of the ‘Knicks’ custom Foamposite One is proof that there are still more Foamposites to be made, despite recent comments made by the sneaker community that the Foamposite may have seen one too many releases. For Knicks fans, lovers of Blue/Orange colorways, or Foamposite fanatics, this latest Jason Negron creation is one that’ll stop you in your tracks, so check out the detailed gallery below and let us know if you think these are better than his Gucci or Light-Up customs. Short, but sweet. That concise descriptive can be used to summarize the entire Nike Air Penny line, which is just four models deep (with the Air Foamposite One unofficially tagging along), but don’t think for a second that it’s size is directly proportional to its significance. After the Air Jordan, the Air Penny is the most celebrated signature footwear line of the pre-Kobe/LeBron era, and new developments like the Air 1/2 Cent, Zoom Rookie LWP, and resurgence of the Air Foamposite One are reasons why it maintains that aura of supremacy today. Sole Collector recently completed a nice interview with Penny Hardaway, providing a quick glimpse of the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP ‘Eggplant’ that we showed you as far back as September. No word on a release yet, so check out the extra angle below and let us know what you think.

The ‘Memphis Express‘ and ‘Memphis Blues‘ PE colorways of the Nike Zoom Rookie were special requests made by Penny Hardaway – he wanted matching shoes for his upcoming charity exhibition basketball games. Those 1-of-1 PEs are in the sole ownership of Penny, but the most recent Zoom Rookie PE, a White/Silver pair worn by Penny during an All-Star charity game in China (which featured Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman), was given to a lucky spectator. This latest Penny-only PE features a White Foamposite upper with matte silver pods with a translucent outsole. To top it off, the Zoom Rookie PEs were autographed by Penny himself! Check out the extra shots of the White/Silver PE after the jump and let us know if you’d like for this colorway to release. via hk-kicks.

The ‘other’ NBA season continued down in Florida when Dwight Howard hosted the D12 Foundation Celebrity All-Star Game at the the University of Central Florida. This game featured a bit of a twist; the two teams were divided up into New School and Old School, with the former consisting of current NBA players and the latter featuring former NBA stars like Penny Hardaway and Steve Francis. The kicks spotted on court had a heavy ‘Air Penny’ theme, as Penny himself wore the Nike Zoom Rookie ‘Memphis Blues’ during warm-ups and switched up to the all-white Foamposite One 1-of-1 PEs for the game. Other notables included Lil’ Wayne’s Binary Blue Zoom Rookies (he coached the ‘New School’ squad) and Earl Clark’s Glow In The Darks, Gilbert Arenas’ Air Jordan VI ‘Orlando’ Customs, Steve Franchise’s Air Jordan 8.0, Quentin Richardson’s Air Jordan XI ‘DMP’, and Dwight Howard’s adiPower Howard. Check out the additional images from this great charity event below and let us know who takes the crown for the best kicks! Thanks to @notmattg!

The Nike Zoom Rookie LWP officially hit the open market this past Thursday when the limited ‘Glow In The Dark’ colorway finally hit stores. Those who passed on this release were probably awaiting the mid-November arrival of the ‘Binary Blue’ colorway, which represents the classic ‘Orlando’ theme we often associate to all Nike Air Penny shoes. However, during the Nike x SC event over the weekend, Penny Hardaway was sporting another PE dubbed the ‘Memphis Blues’ – a 1-of-1 made for Mr. One Cent himself. It features a tonal royal blue upper paired acutely with a translucent outsole for the simplistic approach typically implemented for Foamposite releases (tonal uppers, translucent outsoles). Do you prefer the tonal blue ‘Memphis Blues’ PE or the ‘Memphis Express‘, painted in a vibrant red? Let us know your thoughts below. via SoleCollector.
