Few in our niche can rival the journalistic reputation owned by Australian periodical Sneaker Freaker. During their ten years of service to the sneakerhead set, SF has leveraged that credibility for a number of superlative collaborative projects (most recently, the ‘Bushwhacker’ Saucony Grid 9000). In this case, it would seem that the brand being celebrated has even more to gain from the exposure, as recent collabo releases indicate that Pony is making a serious effort to recapture its former glory in the brand’s 40th anniversary year. The SNKRFRKR-published Pony 40 Year Retrospective reminds us that this brand supported athletes ranging from Bob McAdoo to Reggie Jackson and Spud Webb, but you’ll probably never see one on Amazon (or eBay for that matter, given the tight F&F distribution on this run). Pony is coming back strong with quite a bit of energy behind its collaborations with various Rickys, and with the brand’s 40th anniversary stretching into next year, we can also expect a continued in-house revival. Coming up for the first half of next year are a variety of classic runners and court kicks, that second category offering considerable variety from vulc-soled styles with and without toecaps in addition to more tech-oriented cupsoled designs. You’ll be able to see the entire collection after the jump, so click through for more photos, let us know how these compare to the established heritage lines as well as other companies that’ve recently rebooted and stick with Sneaker News for release info. via Sneaker Freaker

Brooklyn emcees the Beastie Boys lost founding member Adam Yauch to cancer last week, but the group still has three dudes intact if you count the guy who was once known as ‘the fourth Beastie’. Street photographer Ricky Powell has seen the entire arc of hip-hop culture, from those ’80s golden era days to the current environment where something like Run-DMC’s deal with adidas is more like the rule than an exception. But Powell manages to maintain some of that limited edition mystique by teaming up with one of the smaller major brands, and his Ricky Powell x Pony capsule most definitely lives up to his ‘Do You…’ creedo. The black hightop Slam Dunks are fully vegetarian to match Ricky’s lifestyle, and a bunch of matching gear will be on tap whenever these hit retail.
