Whenever sneaker OG Chi McBride laces up a new pair of kicks, it’s time to take notice. The film/TV actor whom we see as one of the most recognizable figures in the celebrity x sneakerhead crossover pool recently received a pair of the DJ Jazzy Jeff x PRO-Keds 69er, as he is seen here lacing up his fresh new pair as he gets ready to film for his new CBS pilot Golden Boy. Can’t wait to get your hands on this sick collaboration of two classic icons of hip-hop and footwear? Sorry, you’ll have to wait ’til September, but peep Chi and his latest kicks below (we get a closer shot of the sick DJ Jazzy Jeff logo on the upper) and we’ll keep you updated on this upcoming collaborative release. You can also check out a pic of Chi in the upcoming ‘Cavs’ Air Jordan IV at yesterday’s West NYC x Pro Keds event after the jump. Photos via p_e_gee

There’s little doubting that even amongst the awe inspiring array of heat on display during the show’s six seasons, the single sneaker most commonly associated with ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ is the ‘Grape’ Air Jordan V that appears in the oft-quoted title sequence. It’s not like this new collaboration is going to send those flying out onto the porch or anything, but this new DJ Jazzy Jeff x PRO-Keds 69er pack does indeed provide a spotlight for a guy without whom Will Smith’s career couldn’t have been quite the same. These glossy black throwbacks are styled after the vinyl records Jazz continues to spin to this day, and they should arrive sometime in the third quarter. Let us know how this latest drop from the company resurrected by Damon Dash compares to other teamups like the Biz Markie 69ers and stick with Sneaker News for updates on their release. via HS

PRO-Keds has been in the sneaker game for decades, gaining prominence in NYC as the hip-hop/b-boy head’s sneaker brand of choice. Things have changed over the years for the brand and the surrounding sneaker game, but amidst the hype and an outpour of today’s new releases, a tried and true classic like the 69er Lo will always be relevant. The recent ‘Backyard BBQ‘ powered by the three-way collaboration between PRO-Keds, notable sneaker fiend Biz Markie and longstanding retailer Packer Shoes, was a celebration of the good old days, bringing back some old-school flavor to a mostly new-school crowd. If you haven’t picked up one of the 750 limited-edition pairs, head to Packer Shoes to cop yours, and check out the video recap after the jump to see what went down at the BBQ.
