Not since the Nike SFB debuted have we seen another sneaker positioned as combat ready. And while this instance is more of a theme than true battlefield footwear, the imagery behind the forthcoming Blackrainbow x Puma R698 collection is indeed quite compelling. This is the first time we’ve seen a military-themed collab go all the way with putting the shoe on a battledress’d soldier, a visual presentation that echoes the earthy colorways at play on the original R698 Jogger and its newly revealed LTWT update. These hit BKRW in Paris next Saturday, April 6th with a wider release to follow on Friday the 12th, and you can see more images and a video of the photoshoot after the jump below.

Previously concerned exclusively with the newspeak’d Suedes States, the Puma Shadow Society colludes to bring us a couple more of the German Cat’s classic silos with a bunch of extra laces in those ominous obelisk bags. The Puma Shadow Society R698 and ZDC82 take us back about two and three decades, respectively, but both show a knack for modern styling with premium suede and leather construction in fresh colorways for fall. These are slated to release alongside matching apparel on Saturday, November 24th (the day after Black Friday), but will you have a place for them in your sneaker/holiday budget even with all the crazy deals and dope pairs soon to be available? When Sneaker News initially previewed the Classic Kicks x Puma R698 pack back in December, their vibrant colorways were most readily associated with the ultrabrite wave we first saw back in the early ’90s. In light of recent developments from other major sneaker brands, we’re starting to see a more widespread return to vivid, high contrast colorways and in this context the pack looks like it’s leading the way. Two of the three Classic Kicks R698s are available now, the teal and white pairs leaving us wondering where the grey joints that most perfectly bridge the aforementioned stylistic gap — where could they be (these are numbers I and III, leaving II in limbo)?
