‘Takumi’ means ‘artisan’ in Japanese, so even before you see Puma’s latest round of drops from under this top-tier umbrella, you know they’re going to be good.  Add in a bit of seasonal timeliness and the bar moves up to ‘great’, as the Ralph Sampson signature hightop and a rarely seen lowtop version get treated to premium earthy materials in time for cold weather.  The Puma RS High gets another round as two gum-soled nubuck drops meet up with two each nubuck/fur-lined and pony hair/leather-lined First Round Lows, and you can see each pair individually after the jump below.  These Takumi Pumas haven’t been making it to US retailers, so stick with Sneaker News for updates and let us know your experience with importing a pair.

Puma RS ‘Takumi’

About two months ago, Sneaker News gave you a first look at an upcoming four-pack of classic Pumas bearing the name ‘Takumi’.  This isn’t a designer or a Tokyo boutique, but rather, the Japanese word for “artisan”, a reference to the quality on these Japan-built Ralph Sampson hightops.  The Puma RS ‘Takumi’ comes in a couple of colorways reminiscent of the Nike Basketball Elite Series, but their simple leather construction makes clear the fact these aren’t a modern performance model.  They’re better suited to those times when you want to sneak your kicks into a ‘classy’ environment, and they’re available now at select Japanese retailers like mita sneakers.

UNDFTD x Puma Ballistic Collection

At what point along the way does an extended collaboration become a full-on merger?  We’ve come to expect ongoing team efforts from individual designers in concert with sneaker brands (think adidas Originals by Originals), but the connection between West Coast streetwear beheamoths UNDFTD and Puma has gone beyond any co-branded efforts on record.  Most recent high profile Puma Clydes have carried the Five Strikes logo, something of a mathematical necessity when you consider that this is now the tenth pack of UNDFTD Clydes in under a year.  This new set goes with pastel ballistic nylon uppers, tonal suede overlays and white leather Formstripes, a formula slightly altered on the RS hightop that uses a grey or purple stripe depending on the rest of its body.  Check out all six pairs after the jump and look for these at select Puma stores like SNKRS.

UNDFTD’s extended collaborations with both Converse and Puma are by this point well documented, and nearly all of the Five Strikes brand’s German Cat teamups in the past year have been focused on one particular model.  In fact, there might be some novice sneakerheads out there who think all Puma Clydes come with Undefeated cobranding, and now they’re adding another silhouette to this ever prolific alliance.  The UNDFTD x Puma RS ‘Snakeskin Pack’ brings back the kind of collection we saw with their ‘Microdot Pack’, which means that similarly constructed Clydes are on the way soon with snake on their Formstripes in lieu of ankle bands.  Have a closer look at these two RS hightops so you have an idea of how they compare to the Snakeskin Clydes, and grab yours today from SNS.
