It’s been done in Eco-friendly builds including 100% post-consumer materials, but when you think of treating the Puma Suede to a new makeup, doesn’t it make the most sense to start right there at the name?  And no, we’re not talking about those ‘States’ releases, although those do point you in the general direction of the kind of quality we’re dealing with on this latest drop from the German Cat.  These three Suede lowtops were Made in Japan with the kind of artisan hand-craftsmanship that makes the ‘Takumi’ label ring true, and you can celebrate this iconic silhouette’s 45th anniversary a few months early now that these have arrived at Foot Patrol.

Puma’s Archive collection is comprised of the German Cat’s heritage models, but that doesn’t mean iconic silhouettes like the Suede are stuck as merely historical documnets.  To the contrary, Puma has refreshed its beloved classic basketball design, and though this collection bears none of the material for which its releases were named, the newfound comfort and feather-light builds on the Puma Suede Lite will have longtime fans curious about the upgrades.  Click through to see how a Faas EVA sole and microperforated uppers give these a speedy feel and stick with Sneaker News for word on stateside availability.  Photos: Kenlu

Puma always comes through with new Clydes and Suedes and the Disc Blaze and its LTWT offspring have been pretty hot this year, but the German Cat looks to branch out with a wider variety of offerings heading into the colder part of the year.  In the Puma Fall/Winter 2012 Lookbook, we see everything from the new Puma Trinomic Trail (which is, of course, based on the iconic R698 Jogger) to the resurrection of the ZDC 82 in commemoration of its 30th anniversary.  Be on the lookout as these are arriving at select retailers worldwide and check out some more shots below to figure out where to start.

Puma Classic Suede “Takumi”

Puma Japan issued ‘Takumi’-edition Ralph Sampson and Sky II hightops earlier this year, a couple of premium quality designs whose name and mysterious origins had some thinking they were crafted by the next big fashion designer.  But if you break out your copy of Rosetta Stone, you’ll find that ‘takumi’ is the Japanese word for ‘artisan’, as in the attention lavished on these new Puma Suede lowtops set to arrive in September.  Red/black and black/royal pairs have been treated to minor adjustments like a narrower sole, thicker suede and premium leather uppers along with a compact toebox whose merits you can discuss after seeing more photos below.

Puma’s top-tier ‘The List’ collection has garnered more attention overseas than here in the US since it launched a few years ago, but stateside consumers can’t help but take notice of this new pack featuring the German Cat’s first sustainable sneaker design.  The Puma Re-Suede renovates an iconic silhouette with 100% recycled polyester fibers on the upper and Double R Rice Rubber making the sole greener (an in the case of these particular releases, flecked with golden speckles).  They’re also about five ounces lighter than the OG Suedes and you’ll find these new colorways packaged in Puma‘s new Clever Little Bag when they arrive at retail later this month.

One of the most influential names in 21st century street art, ‘Popaganda’ artist Ron English is long overdue for a sneaker collaboration.  He’s been getting his fill of Ronald McDonald takedowns in vinyl form lately, so for this partnership with Puma, English goes a subtler route and for once actually tries to fit in.  The Ron English x Puma Suede collection brings together the high and lowtop versions in vaguely trail-ish gumsoled styles that connect modern color awareness with an understated twist on the classic Puma b-boy style.  Have a look at the star-eyed skull on  each pair below and stick with Sneaker News for word on US availability.  via Vision Invisible

Puma’s Eco-Table is a visual representation of twenty-four ways the German cat contributes to a sustainable future, a periodic table of sorts that educates customers on the ways sneakers are getting greener.  And while neither of these new Puma Suede Classic Eco styles are actually green, their autumn-friendly tonal builds and prominent gum rubber soles most definitely have an earthy appeal.  Forty-four years after its debut, the Puma Suede is more environmentally friendly and just as stylish, so have a look at khaki and navy colorways after the jump, then grab yours at select retailers like Size?.  via FNG
