Ray Allen joined the Miami Heat to do one thing – win another Ring. He has an opportunity to accomplish just that as he and the Miami Heat begin their NBA Championship quest tonight as Game 1 of the 2013 NBA Finals tips off, and as we can expect with all of the signature athletes that will take the court, special PE sneakers will be on full display. Ray Allen, who has been Jordan Brand’s longest-tenured roster athlete, will don the Air Jordan XX8 in “Gold” PEs, chooising between two versions for Home and two others for Away (the Away/Alternate showcasing that “fractal” graphic seen on the Jordan Brand Classic PEs). A full gallery awaits you below so take a look and stay tuned for Game 1 tonight!

Not long ago we showed you a sick Air Jordan VII Player Exclusive made for Ray Allen for the 2002 NBA Season. With the “Home” version is almost always an “Away”, and that certainly bodes true for the Air Jordan VII because we actually showed you these Black/Silver/Purple PEs some time ago. These, however, have been put into good use, but with the rarity of these PEs being unknown, we do know that Air Jordan VII PEs in general are tough to come by, so check out the images below and get in the action in this listing from snkrpimp on eBay.

Up until he signed with the Miami Heat this offseason, the color green followed Ray Allen throughout his entire NBA career. Prior to the Celtics and Sonics, Ray was a star guard for the Milwaukee Bucks, during which he sported some of the most unique Air Jordan PEs – like this Air Jordan VII. The upper’s got a basic White leather build, but the remaining accents are filled in with dark green and purple hues to match the Bucks uniforms, white grey filling in the rest. These are definitely one of the better colorways we’ve seen of the Air Jordan VII – we only wish they were in DS condition! Check out the photos and peep the full listing from snkrpimp on eBay.

For as long as we can remember, sneaker releases have been accompanied by catchy nicknames to the point where these monikers are now the accepted terms in identifying the shoes. There are the newer terms to the sneaker vocabulary, like ‘South Beach’ from the LeBron series or ‘Grinch’ on the Kobe, but there are those that have been long-lasting like ‘He Got Game’, which has been in heavy and exclusive use for the upcoming Air Jordan XIII release. For that release in particular, the nickname has been around since the Spike Lee film first released in 1998 – a film that might be older than some of the sneakerheads who are planning to buy the shoes on the March 16th release date.
This Air Jordan XIII colorway originally released in 1997 and was actually the only Air Jordan XIII colorway to release that year (all other original colorways dropped in 1998). In the movie, Jake Shuttlesworth (played by Denzel Washington), a prison inmate, gets sent on a mission to convince the convict’s son, a star High School basketball player, to play for the warden’s alma mater in exchange for a shorter sentence. One iconic scene of the film features Jake shopping for a pair of kicks, and without hesitation, he requests the new Air Jordans to which he is presented with the Air Jordan XIII. From then on this colorway adopted the ‘He Got Game’ nickname; the trend resurfaced when the shoes retroed for the first time in 2008, and picked up yet again when the release was confirmed for 2013.
There are a few scenes in the film in which the sneakers as a whole take center stage, like when his son Jesus (played by Ray Allen) points them out, and when Jake and Jesus battle in one last game of one-on-one. The movie itself is a star-studded line-up of actors, NBA stars, and iconic kicks, so there’s no doubt that ‘He Got Game’ is among the must-watch films for sneaker hobbyists. Check below for these scenes and if there’s a shoe nickname you’re not quite sure of, drop a comment with a request and it might get featured on the next segment of Origins of a Nickname.

One week ago, Sneaker News scooped you on a special event at SoleFly in Miami celebrating the upcoming release of the ‘He Got Game’ Air Jordan XIII Retro with the man who played lead character Jesus Shuttlesworth in that Spike Lee film. SoleFly was the first to get the Thirteens celebrating Ray Allen‘s three-point record a couple of years back; now that he’s moved from the Celtics to the hometown Heat, the perks are even more pronounced. The ‘Ray Got Game’ Air Jordan 13 adds special laser etching to the suede mudguard area, with the fonts closely matching the movie promo materials and boutique logo on the left and right, respectively. There are just 30 pairs of these and even fewer with Allen’s golden signature, so have a closer look below and let us know if you’re ready for the HGG XIIIs.

This Saturday, March 9th, the Jordan Brand-affiliated SoleFly sneaker boutique in Miami will open its doors to Heat star and Jordan Brand athlete Ray Allen for a private meet-and-greet event for a select number of fans. What makes the day so special (in addition to Ray’s appearance) is that a special sneaker will indeed release during that event, and although nothing’s been confirmed just yet, we’re hoping it has something to do with Air Jordan XIII ‘He Got Game’, which officially releases a week later on March 16th (and peep how he’s referred to as ‘Jesus Shuttlesworth’ in the flyer!). Ray Allen’s track record with special Air Jordan Retro releases is simply unmatched by any other, so hopefully something special is in the works! Give us your guesses on what may release and stay tuned for an update on this unique occasion.

Ray Allen has been a major player in the Air Jordan PE game for decades, with plenty of sick colorways made just for the Jordan Brand athlete throughout all stages of his NBA Career. His most celebrated stint was his Celtics years, when he won his first NBA Title, set a record for most Threes in history, and rocked some of the sickest Jays we’ve ever seen. This Home-based White/Green PE was one of many XIIs he rotated throughout his Boston stay (the entirety of XII PEs can be seen in our Air Jordan XII PE Spotlight feature), so check out the images below and place an offer in the listing from joycelpc20122012 on eBay.
