After a scant few releases earlier this decade, Sneaker News previewed a couple of Reebok GL 6000 colorways last fall. Instead of a prelude to more drops from Reebok Classics, it seems that this was a continuation of that trend, as the shoe has been utterly silent since September. Luckily, they weren’t canned, though, so we’ve got at least this pair and another to enjoy from a model coming up on a 30th anniversary in 2015. This GL6000 has a classic sensibility in red, navy and white, so check it out from more angles, then grab them from shops like Politics.

Expect more (almost) forgotten heritage models as Reebok continues to experience success by expanding its Classics lineup under Swizz Beatz’ watch. The Reebok GL 6000 is certainly worthy of some fresh new releases, this model billed back in 1985 as “The first running shoe with total stability,” having served as a mid-decade milestone for the Vector brand’s rise to elite status. These two new suede and mesh builds offer an instant throwback thanks to varsity-style palettes and blocking along with the Union Jack and tongue star. Sneaker News will keep you posted with word on US availability and you can see more images below to tide you over.

Should we take this latest Reebok GL 6000 as a sign of begrudging respect from RBK to Nike/Jordan Brand? You could rather convincingly argue that without the Swoosh and His Airness in the way, Reebok could have rode the Pump’s high tide to a dominant spot in the basketball sneaker space. With a faux Elephant print serving as the key texture on these new GL6000s, we’re reminded of how the AJIII cemented the Air Jordan as king of basketball shoes; ‘Cool Grey’ comparisons bound to follow in this pair’s tonal footsteps. Take away the historical context and these are still quite the solid effort, their purple accents adding some much needed energy to the season and a breathable upper just perfect for the coming warm weather.
