It’s about time some non-OG high-energy colorways of the Reebok Kamikaze II makes its way to retail, but not to worry because the wait for this sick rain-camo “Reign Man” release is getting shorter and shorter. The graphic on the upper is an obvious connection to Shawn Kemp’s nickname of his hey-dey, when the Sonics forward viciously posterized anyone who dared to get in his way, but also a tie in to the fact that Seattle is known for its wet weather. It’s all coming together perfectly for Reebok and the re-issue of the Kamikaze II, with the Sonics returning to Seattle and a once non-existent Shawn Kemp now turning up the appearances and interviews with teammate Gary Payton. UK retailer Crooked Tongues is releasing these today in limited number, but stay tuned to Sneaker News for updated release information for U.S. locations.

Tomorrow will mark the release of the second set of Reebok Kamikaze II reissues to arrive in the young year. The pairs keep things aimed at the OG looks with their simple two tone blocking, the black that they share in common getting applied to different sections across the two styles. The head of the Reebok Classics surge just showed off his daily sneaker rotation, and – you guessed it – it’s all Reebok. Starting with the upcoming Shaq re-issues like the Shaqnosis and Attaq to the more recent Kamikaze II drops, Swizz Beatz certainly puts his money where his mouth his by rocking the Bok exclusively! The latest piece of custom footwear from Sole Swap is a rather subtle one-a pair of the Reebok Kamikaze II that contains a few little detail upgrades pushing it more towards the original look. There’s the addition of the ‘KEMP’ etched logo down towards the toes, and a couple minimal changes on the various Vector logos. Also altered is the green used, as this pair goes for a slightly lighter kelly green look that lines up more with the pre-1996 Seattle uniform that Kemp would have rocked at the beginning of his career. The Reebok Kamikaze II surge continues as we get a detailed look at yet another colorway of Shawn Kemp’s signature shoe. This time, the Kamikaze II reveals itself in a non-original colorway of Geranium Red and Pure Silver, with the silver panels taking on a unique fish-scale texture. The insoles play off further on this ‘fish’ idea, but there may be some ties to this unique colorway to Shawn’s restaurant in Seattle called ‘Oskar’s Kitchen’ (named after a fish he keeps in an aquarium in the back). The Reebok Kamikaze II is a sneaker that won’t be sticking strictly to the original combos that hit during Shawn Kemp’s heyday. A few versions that will break from that base are those that make up the Reebok Kamikaze II ‘Reignman’ group, each done up with a linear camo kind of pattern for the upper. The faux droplets even come in a flashy 3M, allowing the sneakers to light up like never before given the right angle. The Reebok Kamikaze II reissue is one that’s been immediately welcome with open arms by the greater sneaker-wearing celebrity set. Beyond the typical Reebok-affiliated folks, we’ve seen Jay-Z and now Rihanna laced up in the Shawn Kemp specials. And in terms of sneaker hook-ups it looks like Rihanna has gotten Hov beat here what with her early pair on feet. Swizz Beatz isn’t the only hip-hop figure riding with the Reebok revival that we’re currently in the midst of. There’s also Tyga, who has landed his own pair of signature sneakers as a result, and dudes like Rick Ross and DJ Khaled. Ross in particular has been pretty enthusiastic about the brand as of late, taking to Instagram on a regular basis to show off the most recent pairs he’s been blessed with.
