Swizz Beatz Previews Upcoming Reebok Retros

swizz beatz previews upcoming reebok retros 1 Swizz Beatz Previews Upcoming Reebok Retros

Swizz Beatz has made a huge impact on Reebok in a short time, and just like any great producer, he’s just taking what an act has to offer and maximizing its strong points.  Swizzy’s bringing back what he calls his ‘Starting Lineup’ (and no, we’re not talking about DMX, the Lox and Eve featuring Drag-On), a set of mid-’90s signatures that mark one of the Vector brand’s high water marks when they captured a fresh new energy on the NBA hardwood, and then some.  Before showing off a few pairs at last night’s American Music Awards, Swizz previewed a couple of Shaq signatures, the original rookie year Reebok Shaq Attaq and another reason why some still consider 1995-96 the greatest release slate ever: the mesmerizing Shaqnosis.  Shawn Kemp’s Kamikaze II is also coming back, but is at least in terms of 2s outmatched by record-breaking RB Emmit Smith’s ES22 turf trainers.  Let us know which of these well-aged classics most excites you and stick with Sneaker News for their release dates.

Those who have hopelessly followed Shawn Kemp’s career after his massive weight-gain in the post-Seattle era finally have a come-back to look forward to that won’t end in disappointment – the return of the Reebok Kamikaze II. Sneaker News gave you an in-depth preview of the re-issue of one Shawn Kemp’s signature Reeboks last week, but here’s a colorway that’ll certainly spice things up and strike a melody of nostalgic notes – a Seattle Supersonics colorway in White, Green, Yellow, and Black; it features a White tumbled leather upper with a metallic green finish, yellow detailing on the Reebok logo and speckling on the midsole, and a black interior lining, tongue, and laces. Another full shot of this Sonics joint just below, so give it a look and let us know if you think this is the best new colorway of the Kamikaze II we’ve seen!

Reebok Kamikaze II – Spring 2013 Preview

reebok kamikaze ii spring 2013 preview1 Reebok Kamikaze II Spring 2013 Preview

If the Swizz Beatz remixes aren’t quite your thing then fear not, a bit of the original Reebok Kamikaze heritage is indeed coming back around for a retro tour. That bit is in the form of the Reebok Kamikaze II (a silo you no doubt noticed on the feet of Swizzy and Tyga in our press conference post) which will be arriving in a couple Shawn Kemp approved classic colorways along with a few newer versions whose gaudy appeal almost drips over into the Reebok x Basquiat category in terms of aesthetics. With the OG by the likes of the White/Black/Green and White/Navy joined by surprisingly energetic colorways like the Silver/Red and the Red/Yellow/Gold, will the Kamikaze II have enough punch to re-live the relevance it once had over 15 years ago? Click through to get a look at what’s in store for the Reebok Kamikaze II (and keep in mind that those camo pairs are also in the mix) and stick with Sneaker News for more firm release info going forward.

Reebok has made a big splash so far at the Project Trade Show in Las Vegas, debuting the return of the Reebok Kamikaze II in this sick ‘Reignman Camo’ Pack; using the familiar rain camo graphic as a play on words with Shawn Kemp’s iconic ‘Reignman’ alter ego, the Reignman Camo Pack features three tonal colorways of black, crisp grey, and dark olive with the dotted-line graphic on the upper. With the successful re-launch of the Reebok Answer series beginning with the Question and Answer IV, Reebok has some high hopes for its 90′s catalog of basketball icons, so expect The Kamikaze II and the rest of Shawn Kemp’s signature model to make quite a splash in 2013. More detailed shots of the Reebok Kamikaze II ‘Reignman Camo’ Pack is just ahead, so take a thorough look and stay tuned for more from Reebok soon.

Reebok Retro Catalog Teaser

Imagine if Nike Sportswear hadn’t issued hardly any of its 1990s classics, then suddenly, BAM! — a torrent of Jordans, Air Maxes and signatures that’d leave longsuffering sneakerheads in tears.  That’s kind of like what’s going on right now under Swizz Beatz‘ supervision at Reebok, as the Vector brand is finally bringing back some of its most memorable silos of the past two decades.  It started last year with the Shawn Kemp-inspired Kamikaze III, a descendent of the Reebok Kamikaze II that’s now getting a proper retro treatment along with a couple of Allen Iverson’s signatures.  AI’s ‘Pearlized Red’ Question is on display with the OG blue colorup soon to follow, which will be joined by the Answer IV in one of that model’s many (many) first run styles.  And on the running/training side of things, we’re about to be blessed with Emmitt Smith’s EM22 and the original DMX Run (suggesting a future release for it’s DMX-debuting counterpart, the Answer I?).  Have a peek at Reebok’s upcoming Retro Sport collection after the jump, let us know which of these classics you’re most excited to own and if there’s another RBK model you’d like to see return (Swizz promises “Shaqs also” soon), and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for release info.

Reebok Kamikaze II Retro

reebok kamikaze ii retro 1 Reebok Kamikaze II Retro

The first model marking Swizz Beatz‘ reign at Reebok was inspired by Shawn Kemp’s dominant period with the Seattle Supersonics, and it’s been so long since we’ve seen the original, a good portion of the sneakerhead community has never had a chance to cop these.  But after the success of the Kamikaze III, Swizzy looked back to the 1995 sophomore effort that inspired its distinct lines, and now we have even further proof that indeed, ‘Reebok Back.’  The Reebok Kamikaze II is a throwback to the Sonics’ 1996 NBA Finals run, yet another example of why some older heads think that season’s sneaker output roughly matched the Chicago Bulls’ record setting 72-win campaign.  Expect this OG colorway later this year with more to follow in 2013, so click through for more and stick with Sneaker News for the specific details.

Reebok 90′s Basketball Showcase

reebok 1990s basketball showcase Reebok 90s Basketball Showcase

Allen Iverson, Swizz Beatz and Rick Ross, the return of the Shaqnosis and Shaq Attaq – things are coming together quite well for the basketball division of Reebok Classics, so hopefully last Thursday’s re-release of the OG Reebok Question is just the start of a string of great releases. Last year’s release of the Swizz Beatz x Reebok Kamikaze is a clear sign that the brand is keeping the Kamikaze close to heart, but the truth is, there wouldn’t be any better way to revitalize the brand by re-releasing some of its most cherished original models like the Kamikaze; just check out the reader response from our report of the return of the Reebok Shaq signature line and you’ll see that the demand is there.

The truth is, it’s not just one or two models that the public is looking for, so this showcase of Reebok’s greatest hits of the 1990′s is a nice reminder that the Retro sneaker scene is ready for co-dominance; the Reebok Kamikaze, Blast, Reignman, The Shroud, The Answer saga, Black Top – just entertaining the thought of a string of Reebok Basketball re-issues gets us hot and bothered (and it’s not just Basketball, the Reebok turf shoes were bangers). Check out a quick showcase of these classics below and let us know which of the bunch you’d like to see hit stores again, and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for any more updates on Reebok’s apparent Retro push.
