Swizz Beatz was just on stage to usher in the Reebok Lite collection, but his own choices of RBK collaborations come from nearly two decades before their eventual release. The latest Swizz Beatz x Reebok Kamikaze utilizes a color scheme not all to dissimilar from the Chicago-style bred joints that just dropped, but the use of a black snakeskin and disco ball-like scored chrome sections make these look something closer to Dennis Rodman’s personal style than Michael Jordan. Kanye West’s Nike Air Yeezy released in a mere three colorways back in 2009 (how many will we see from the Air Yeezy 2?), and despite the fact that those releases stretched over a period longer than the amount of time that’s elapsed since the first Swizz Beatz x Reebok Kamikaze, Swizzy has already managed to swipe the lead with the fourth and fifth releases pictured above. The Reebok Kamikaze 2011 will hit retailers soon in two new looks, one adding teal accents to a grey/white base, the other going for a classic Chicago Bulls ‘away’ look. Sneaker News showed you a few different rounds of preview images depicting June’s releases from the Swizz Beatz x Reebok Kamikaze, but somehow this model remained under wraps. Swizzy’s blacked-out Kamikaze III Mid NC adds just a touch of formality via a patent leather toe, the rest of the leather and nubuck design otherwise fairly neutral if slightly rugged. So in all ways except for the shiny toes, these are by far the least flashy Swizz Beatz-designed Kamikazes yet; but could they be the best? The fickle sneaker game will have brands fall in and out of relevance, but keep in mind that Reebok was a top contender during one of the best eras of footwear. But you have to give props where it’s due, because we haven’t seen a product roll-out quite as impressive and controlled as the Swizz Beatz x Reebok Kamikaze – a sneaker that many will say is long overdue. News of Swizz’s involvement stirred up excitement for Reebok and the sneaker community, and the 84-pair limited first drop had us more than just a little intrigued. Reebok’s connection with the hip-hop community isn’t something new either; in the earlier part of the last decade, Reebok featured a number of notable hip-hop stars like Jay-Z and 50 Cent/G-Unit with their own signature shoes. Today, June 10th, is the official wide release of the Swizz Beatz x Reebok Kamikaze, available in the Black/White/Orange and Grey/Neon colorways; priced at a fair $99, these will fly off the shelves fast, and most sizes have already been picked clean from the Reebok online store. Reebok’s latest marketing push comes in form of a video, featuring Reebok Lifestyle collaborator, noted celeb-sneakerhead Rick Ross, and signature athlete John Wall. The three were spotted rocking some sweet Reebok gear for the shoot – Swizz Beatz in Reebok Twilight Zones, Rick Ross in the Omni Pump in Black/Gold, and John Wall in the re-designed Kamikaze. It’s interesting to note that Rick Ross would be part of the promo when it wasn’t even a year ago when he was featured in the Nike ‘BOOM’ advertisement. Also spotted at the shoot was Maybach Music member Meek Mill, who wore Black/Orange Kamikazes. Check out the images from the Reebok Back video shoot below and let us know what you think.

Were you among the eighty-four lucky sneakerheads who got their hands on a pair of autographed Swizz Beatz x Reebok Kamikazes? It’s likely the ansewr is ‘no’, but luckily, RBK didn’t keep their collaboration with the One Man Band Man to a single, frustratingly limited release. To the contrary, two different Swizz Beatz-designed Kamikaze 2011s will hit select retailers next Friday, June 10th with an MSRP of $100. One pair goes with an almost Air Max 95-style range of grey shades with neon yellow accents, while the other is a look borrowed from the original Pump, a black and white getup with orange peeking from the sockliner. Today, Reebok finally unveiled the Reebok Kamikaze 2011 in 84 limited edition pairs of the Red/Grey colorway, each autographed by hip-hop mega-producer Swizz Beats. Now that the groundwork has been laid for the most anticipated Reebok shoe in years, Reebok will release two more colorways this June 10th – one in a Grey/Neon/White combination and a second in a Black/Orange/White version. Both pairs will hit select stores in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Baltimore, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Both colorways feature the aggressive midsole design with visible Hexalite cushioning, a sleek patent leather toe guard, nubuck and synthetic leather uppers, and a breathable mesh-like material on the upper and tongue. Expect both colorways to hit stores on June 10th, so take another look below and let us know what you think.

That Swizz Beatz’ production and recording career has proven to be nearly doubly as long as Shawn Kemp’s career peak goes to show how much has changed since the latter was dunking at the 1995 NBA All-Star Game in the original Reebok Kamikaze. But rappers can move sneakers just as well if not better than basketball players these days and the inclusion of this nod to a mid-90s classic earns Swizzy’s collabo with RBK some extra street cred. The Reebok Kamikaze 2011 was designed by Swizz Beatz and will see its first colorway hit retailers this Friday the 13th in a super-limited run, but after that the general public can get its fair share of Hexalite cushioning when these black/red and grey/teal colorways hit retailers later this summer.
