Would you wear these Pumps on a plane? Would you wear them in a recording studio? That seemed to be the question posed in these recent show off shots from Reebok Creative Director Swizz Beatz, who understandably has a particular affinity for the pair thanks to the very New York City colorway. The Knicks is the most obvious connection since they’re basketball sneakers and all but let’s not forget that you can bring the orange and blue with you out to Citi Field in Queens and still fit in. Click through to check out the Reebok Pump Twilight Zone ‘NYC’ pair and let us know if you’re planning to pick up this Gotham styled release. As always, keep it locked on Sneaker News for release info.

Reebok has some serious momentum right now with their sudden acceleration in the direction of quality retro releases, and this latest showoff from Swizz Beatz proves there’s more than just OG colorups in store.  The Reebok Pump Twilight Zone makes a tantalizing first appearance in a New York Knicks colorway, a remix of the original white and blue design that already offered an orange Pump.  These increase the presence of both accent shades with white leather covering the rest, including the tongues where a mysterious ‘established’ embroidery calls out an as yet unspecified date from what looks like one of the ten Junes from the first decade of this century.  Stick with Sneaker News to find out what it means, additional photos and release info, and click through for more in the meantime.

Ruff Ryders x Reebok Pump Twilight Zone

Do you still have your copy of It’s Dark and Hell is Hot laying around from your super aggressive Timberland wearing, dog barking days? If you flip through the liner notes of that classic DMX album you’ll notice that none other than Ruff Ryders mainstay Swizz Beatz has a couple of credits, a connection that is apparently still around and manifesting itself in the form of his Reebok work. Swizzy recently blasted off this Instagram photo of what looks to be a Ruff Ryders x Reebok Pump Twilight Zone collab, the ‘R’ in the Reebok branding borrowed from that record label’s typeface. Interestingly enough the colorway is a pretty flossy one, sort of donning the shiny suit look of late 90s Bad Boy fame that the Ruff Ryders more or less acted as a foil to. At the turn of the 80′s into the 90′s, sneakers were defined not as a dominance of just one brand, but a free-for-all for a wide variety of labels doing their best to put out the best and most advanced sneakers at the time. It was that era through brought along one of the most celebrated and game-changing advancements in footwear technology – we’re talking about Reebok’s introduction of Pump in 1989. Pump was a collaborative effort between Reebok’s Paul Litchfield and the industrial design firm Design Continuum, with the basis of pumping Air via an internal inflation mechanism that provided better stability and fit at the lower tongue and ankle collar of the shoe. Despite its unprecedented MSRP, Reebok Pump was insanely successful in sport, on street, and in pop-culture, and incited a three-way battle among Reebok, Nike, and LA Gear – the latter two developing their own pump module-based footwear design.

Standing taller among all the early Reebok Pump models is the Twilight Zone; this super high-top model utilized the Pump system as well as Reebok’s new Energy Return System (ERS), which, in short, acted as a weight distribution mechanism at the heel of the shoe. The appeal of the high-top design, paired with the combination of unforeseen footwear technology, made the Twilight Zone Pump one of the most popular sneakers of all-time, so as Reebok confirmed its plans to re-introduced the Twilight Zone in a year marked by outstanding re-issues, the younger sneakerheads have the fortunate opportunity to re-live one of the golden eras of footwear. The Reebok Pump Twilight Zone is available at Packer Shoes in the energetic original colorway of White/Black/Neon Green/Bright Orange, so continue on for a detailed gallery of this great 2012 Retro (perfect timing if you missed out on the late-2009/early-2010 re-release) and stay tuned for more of Reebok’s throwback effort for 2012.

Sneaker News already confirmed the re-release of the Reebok Twilight Zones, but the brand’s lifestyle frontman Swizz Beatz is going the extra mile by rocking some sick new joints tonight at the ESPY Awards. Dubbed the ‘Snakes’, this Twilight Zone features a tonal upper featuring the slithery material around the entire build of the shoe, with a metallic silver detailing on the upper. Pair with it the white midsole and hint of red on the outsole and you’ve got one of the fiercest Reeboks we’ve seen since Swizz took the helm. Another shot of this sick new ‘Bok below, so take a look and we’ll keep you updated with potential release info.
