reebok pump twilight zone 2012 release Reebok Pump Twilight Zone Releasing in 2012

With Swizz Beatz and Rick Ross at the helm, the brand’s most recognizable face in its basketball franchise coming back into the limelight, and a classic re-release of one of its originals being one of the most successful sneaker drops of the year, it’s safe to say that Reebok is pushing in the right direction. Reebok’s recent rise takes us back to the era when the sneaker game wasn’t dominated by just one brand, but when it was truly anybody’s game – and many will say that Reebok was among the top dogs during that time. Mega-athletes like Allen Iverson, Shaquille O’neal, and Shawn Kemp all represented major highlights of the brands time-line as each player boasted his own memorable signature line of shoes, but one sneaker model the precedes that era is the original Reebok Pump, which made its worldwide debut in 1989 with the Reebok Bringback.

One year later after the debut, the Reebok Pump Twilight Zone was introduced; it was a super high-top sneaker that boasted Pump and Energy Return System technology on the heel and fulfilled all the desires of what athletes and consumers were looking for in a sneaker. Like the Bringback, the Twilight Zone was worn by NBA Superstar Dominique Wilkins, but was undoubtedly more recognized for being immense pop-culture hit – celebrities and kids on the street loved the Twilight Zone without restraint, and the Reebok Pump as a whole defined that generation of street fashion with its unique style and technology. The Reebok Twilight Zone did actually make a return in late 2009/early 2010 as part of a twentieth Anniversary celebration of the Pump, but we’ve received confirmation from sources that the sneaker game will enter the Twilight Zone yet again this year; seen here are 2012 issues in four colorways (who can spot the OGs?), the Twilight Zone is the perfect follow-up to the Question and a solid leeway to bringing back some of Reebok’s other classic models. Check out all four below and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for more updates on this exciting development.

We’ve seen some of the more fascinating technology-inspired sneaker collaborations to date from Reebok on their still futuristic Pump classics, everything ranging from a fairly simple (though visually impressive) Tron tribute to more intellectually demanding concepts like Sneakerology 101 courtesy of Carnegie Mellon University or the surveillance-themed VCMP Alien Stompers.  The latest is somewhat closer to that latter category, the second in a trilogy of PickYourShoes-penned collabs that examine the evolving relationship we have with our by now inextricable smartphones.  So even if you like the concrete-cracking durability of your decade-old Nokia candybar, you can still get in on the touchscreen frenzy by picking up the PYS x Reebok Pump Twilight Zone ’N-Droid’.  This followup to the Blackberry-inspired January release is about two-thirds silver whereas the ‘Bberry’ was all black; should we expect white and black pairs for the iPhone theme that will inevitably close out this series?  Stick with Sneaker News for updates on that release, and check out some photos of the ‘N-Droid’ Pump Twilight Zone in the meantime, before you grab a pair straight from PYS.
