It turns out Roger Federer‘s backhand is pretty useful off the tennis court as well as on. In this new Nike spot, RF is shown doing some fly-swatting in the new Nike Trainer 5.0. With the whole idea of a trainer being a multi-purpose shoe, it’s good to know that they’re suitable for such ranging activities as bug chasing and fly smashing. Continue reading to see the Nike “Federer vs. Fly” video and stay tuned to see whether or not they’ll give Walter White a PE of the awesome Nike Free Trainer 5.0.

The Nike Zoom Vapor Tour 9 is managing a pretty strong following thanks to the NIKE iD treatment that’s available. Roger Federer himself apparently whipped up a couple new colorways via that customizable process in preparation for an upcoming Grand Slam bid out in Melbourne. Pictured here are four Nike iD styles that are on the block as a possible wear for RF, and he apparently wants the fans to select which one will hit the court in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to get a look at all four Nike Zoom Vapor Tour 9 iD creations after the jump and vote on your favorite now via Nike Tennis.

The 2012 US Open is off and running in Flushing, Queens as the world’s greatest tennis stars convened once again for this annual tradition. One emphatic focus is on perhaps the greatest of all-time in Roger Federer, who shattered records with his seventeenth title earlier this year, and his signature Nike sneaker known as the Zoom Vapor Tour 9. To celebrate Federer’s arrival in the Big Apple, Nike has created a limited edition release of the Vapor Tour 9 in a Royal Blue and Orange New York Mets color scheme with the Nike NYC logo on the tongue and insole. A very limited quantity will be sold at Packer Shoes at Noon tomorrow, with each pair accompanied by an amazing NYC Tennis t-shirt designed by UNDERCRWN (a play of Mr. Met, tennis, and the brand’s signature graphics). $175 will get you the shoes and the t-shirt, but the tees will also be sold separately once the limited run of the shoes sell out. More of the Nike Zoom Vapor Tour 9 ‘NYC’ and the t-shirt below, so take a look and let us know if you’ll be trying to grab a pair as Federer tries to add #18 to his belt at the US Open!

Flushing, Queens is home to the historic sport landmark known as the U.S. Open, where the world’s best clash at Arthur Ashe for Grand Slam glory. To kick off the 2012 US Open in high fashion, Nike will release a super-limited version of the Nike Zoom Vapor Tour 9 (Roger Federer’s signature model) in an area-specific colorway of royal blue and orange – the colors of the New York Mets MLB franchise that takes the field just across the street from the US Open. Federer will be wearing the Navy/Red colorway of the Vapor Tour 9 (featured as part of the Nike Tennis New York Collection) throughout the tournament, but will he switch things up to the Blue/Orange ‘NYC’ if he reaches the final? Along with this special Hyperstrike colorway is the classic Nike ‘NYC’ logo on the tongue as well as on the insole of the shoe to complete the regional vibe. A select number of pairs will be released on site at the 2012 US Open (much like last year’s ‘Tennis Ball’ Courtballistec was made available) with another batch set to drop across the river at New Jersey’s Packer Shoes. Check out the teaser pics after the jump, and with the tourney starting today, expect specific release info coming very soon.

It’s likely that you completely missed out on copping the Nike Zoom Vapor Tour 9 ’287′, which was a tribute to Roger Federer’s record-breaking spot at #1 (take that, Mariah Carey). There’s still some more tennis to played this season, so while it certainly would be an awesome treat to see R-Fed rock his Black/Gold ’287′ PEs, it’s more likely to see him wearing thi snew White/University Blue-Black colorway of his signature shoe. Such an supremely-design sneaker built for Federer’s top-notch game was actually designed by Tinker Hatfield on an iPad of all things, but that doesn’t mean the shoe is meant for light work. Eastbay has ‘em in stock if you’re looking to switch up your grass/clay-court footwear.

No one has ever dominated men’s tennis like Roger Federer. By any statistical measure, Federer has been better, longer than anyone else who’s ever swung a racquet, and Nike Tennis will honor the record-crushing 17-time Grand Slam winner with a new PE to celebrate his total eclipse of the man who’d most recently worn that crown. RF just passed Pete Sampras with 287 weeks at number one in the ATP World Rankings, an accomplishment noted on the Certificate of Authenticity inside the Nike Zoom Vapor Tour 9 Tour RF ’287′ (which Federer apparently signed as a gift to himself). ”#1 never left Roger, and it never will,” notes the transparent shield guarding those black and gold Vapor Tour 9s; click through so you can see for yourself if they match the stature of the legend they celebrate.
