Jay-Z and Kanye West just went H.A.M. at Philips Arena to kick off their world tour over the weekend. Jay was spotted in the Air Jordan 1 ‘Banned’ he seems to love so well while ‘Ye gave us our first look at the black/pink Nike Air Yeezy 2 since Coachella. Hundreds of thousands more fans will Watch the Throne as their travels continue, this new custom Nike Dunk High design a tribute to hip-hop’s 1a) and 1b). ROM‘s ‘Watch the Throne’ Dunk High custom utilizes an ‘All Black Everything’ construction save the golden accents that call back to Riccardo Tisci’s album cover design. Sneaker Customizer Martin Figueroa-Ramirez, or better known as ROM, has had a number of great projects featured on Sneaker News, namely his Dunk High creations that were featured in our Sneaker News Battle of the Customs vote. ROM has the astute ability to draw inspiration from the most unique and unexpected sources, displayed by his most recent sneaker custom – the Nike Dunk High ‘Louis the 14th’. This shoe not only takes after the Sun King of France, but also during the elegant time period when art was a major form of expression. Some specific notes include the Palace at Versailles, the currency of that time period, and other fine details that allow this sneaker to tell a story rich in history. Judging by its nickname, you might expect the latest custom Nike Dunk High by RōM to take its theme from a spilt glass of milk, but a quick glance reveals another inspiration entirely. RōM’s ‘Don’t Cry’ Dunks emphasize the designer’s urban art roots with a series of graffiti-style design elements along with the artist’s signature binary detailing. The colorway is a uniquely crisp grey/black/blue combo that’s right in step with the current trends, though the level of detail on these far surpasses your average general release.
