Sneaker Freaker x Saucony Grid 9000 “Bushwhacker” – Release Date

Saucony’s Elite collection with Bodega and the recent 2×2 pack with Packer Shoes has given a bunch of attention to its once nearly forgotten golden age cushioning breakthrough.  And while the Saucony Grid 9000 can’t stand toe-to-toe with a model like the Air Max 1 when it comes to pure historical significance, a smartly chosen collaboration can indeed show us how this design offered every bit the era-defining aesthetic as some of the more household names.  So if you’re looking for a breath of fresh air in your classic running rotation, you can’t do much better than Sneaker Freaker’s  Grid 9000 ‘Bushwhacker’, a ‘Tiffany’-plus-tan design whose speckled sole nicely integrates a colorway the likes of which we haven’t quite seen before.  SNKRFRKR manages once again to subtly make its mark on a just-off-the-mainstream model, and just in case you forgot, there’s an ‘F’ stitched into the left-medial ‘S’ in addition to the SF 10th Anniversary footbeds that you’ll see in greater detail after the jump below.  Sneaker Freaker’s Grid 9000s will be available starting Friday, June 29th at retailers like End, so click through to view more photos and stick with Sneaker News for word on a possible US release.

Sneaker magazine and industry principal Sneaker Freaker has displayed their level of knowledge quite well through their sneaker collaborations in the past. Asics Gels, New Balances, and Sauconys alike – whenever these Aussies get their hands on a pair of shoes, it’s time to pay attention. Sneaker Freaker recently teased their upcoming Saucony collaboration in their German Sneaker Freaker Issue 24 (which, overall, has revealed itself to be the ‘September Vogue’ because it’s filled front-to-back with gold), but here we have a first look at their 10th Anniversary celebration dubbed the ‘Bushwacker’; it features a mix of Black, Mint Green, and Beige, with diamond-mesh toes and ankles and roped laces held together by lace-locks. On the Saucony logo, you’ll notice the customary ‘S’ stitched between the three dots, but peep the medial side and you’ll see ‘F’ – a nice little easter egg to make these that much more special. The Sneaker Freaker 10th Anniversary x Saucony Grid 9000 ‘Bushwacker’ is expected to release in July at select Saucony retailers like End, so check out the detailed images below and stay tuned for more updates on the Grid 9000 and other Saucony partnerships.

They’re on to the next one with the mint chocolate chip ‘Bushwhacker’ Saucony Grid 9000, but before they unveiled this collaboration with one of New England’s running experts, Sneaker Freaker looked to their own backyard for inspiration on a German classic with a Texas-born name.  And accordingly, the Dallas lowtop that SNKR FRKR rebranded as Puma Bunyip was unleashed on the public with a party that included the expected top-notch mix of music, art, drinks and, of course, a sick selection of any kind of kicks you can imagine.  Check out the video below, let us know how this looked compared to your favorite release date/party memories and stick with Sneaker News for more event recaps from around the sneakerhead universe.  via ST

Sneaker Freaker is the OG sneakerhead periodical and arguably the scene’s most successful print publication, now commonly dropping in multiple cover designs and issuing various versions for consumption around the globe.  The cover(s) of the next German edition reflect the state of the game with collaborative designs on all four, ranging from the just-dropped Puma Bunyip to the new revelation pictured above.  The SNKR FRKR x Saucony Grid 9000 ‘Bushwhacker’ applies a Tiffany-style colorup to this model Packer Shoes just finished with; no word yet on whether they come packaged with a skull lick from Luke and Butch to fully flesh out the theme.  Click through to get a better sense of what to expect from the Sneaker Freaker Grid 9000s and stick with Sneaker News for more info.

Barring any other postponement or cancellation, the June release of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 will likely be the biggest sneaker release of the year, causing Nike to go into a tailspin by completely overhauling its sneaker release procedures in preparation of the release. Sneaker News has done its best to keep you updated with release information and developments, and with the latest issue of Sneaker Freaker featuring the Air Yeezy 2 on its cover, the scheduled June release looks a bit more concrete than it did one day ago. However, Sneaker Freaker presents the Air Yeezy 2 in a slightly altered format, compressed into a six-sided cube with each facade showcasing the details of the sneaker. You can snag your copy of Sneaker Freaker here so check out the full cover with Sneakercube Yeezy below and stay tuned for more updates!

We’ve seen plenty of animated and otherwise entirely fictional characters used to theme sneaker collaborations (Terry Bray, anyone?), but few have managed to capture the kind of local flavor reflected in this new teamup between Puma and Australia’s Sneaker Freaker magazine.  SNKRFRKR took the Puma Dallas silhouette, ripped it apart, rebuilt with goat suede and a soft leather liner and the Puma Bunyip was born.  Its name evokes images of an Aussie legend, the six-foot tall beast said to look something “like a walrus crossed with a dingo.”  This is a design three years in the making and carries all the loving attention to detail as SF’s other collabos; are they the Outback sneaker mag’s best effort to date?  Let us know when you click through to see more images and stick with Sneaker News for word on what looks like an Asia-Pacific exclusive release.

Why The iPhone is Killing the Sneaker Industry

why the iphone is killing the sneaker industry 1 Why The iPhone is Killing the Sneaker Industry

Most of the commentary published regarding sneakerhead culture is directly connected to the products: their history/authenticity, emerging trends in aesthetics and creative teamwork, and especially lately with news of Nike Basketball’s Elite line for next summer, the price.  But despite the fact that the last one is directly connected to your pocketbook, how much do we really know about why certain sneakers carry certain prices?  Sneaker Freaker just put together a comprehensive piece on all the factors contributing to the current state of the sneaker game, everything from research and development (did you know it takes well over six figures to launch a new design?!) to the factory and material costs and more indirect influences like US government policies; put simply, it’s a must-read for true sneakerheads.  Head over to SNKRFRKR for the whole 14-page feature and let us know how you feel about the brave new world ahead.
