What a way to end of the month of July! A first detailed look at the Air Jordan XI ‘Bred’ rejuvenated the Air Jordan category, but perhaps that was overtaken by the official start of the 2012 London Olympics. We got the opportunity to preview a ton of Olympic-driven gear like the Gold Medal Nike Basketball kicks, and Nike took it upon itself to revisit 20 of the most amazing basketball designs of the past two decades, starting with the Air Force 180. Nike SB keeps it moving with a look at next year’s St. Patty’s Day Dunk release, while the FlyKnit finally launched worldwide in a wide release of twelve distinct colorways/models. The Air Force 1 also made plenty of news, as we got a look at mid-August’s Embroidery Pack and a dope mid-top with a ‘Silver’ approach. Nike Basketball/Sportswear was also a big player this week; a first look at an ‘Invisibility Cloak’ colorway of a looming Penny V release turned heads, while a SneakerNews.com exclusive look at an all-new Hyperposite colorway heated up some computer screens. Another Foam-based model in the Zoom Rookie will release once more in the infamous ‘Galaxy’ colorway as well.

Nike Sportswear will introduce Engineered Mesh on its heritage models this Spring, starting with the Air Max 1 (trust us, it doesn’t stop there). adidas raised a few eyebrows as they introduce their own Knit-constructed running shoe, leading us to wonder just how much potential knitted uppers have not only with Nike, but across all brands. Meanwhile, Asics had us in a frenzy thanks to Ronnie Fieg’s decision to release a small crop of his Neptune Blue a tad early, while Vans’ top headlines of the week had some juicy goodness for collaboration-crazed sneakerheads. Converse and Stussy New York have something exciting up their sleeves. The Air Force 1 High grabs our attention with our own Classics Revisited this week, featuring some great collaborations and PE models of the last 10 years. Finally, Sneaker Con hits the DC area yet again for a mid-Summer event that is sure to ignite the Nation’s Capitol. More of Sneaker News Weekly Rewind for you ahead, so drop in and don’t miss a beat on all-things-sneakers!

Sneaker News Weekly Rewind: 7/14 – 7/20

weekly rewind summary 7 20 Sneaker News Weekly Rewind: 7/14 7/20

What an amazing week it’s been! Sneaker News spent time in D.C. to take in all the Nike World Basketball Festivities, but that was only the start of a string of great news. Jordan Brand unveiled the ‘J2K’ edition of the Air Jordan VII, and a teaser of the upcoming Bred XI induced some chatter. A bunch of unreleased Nike LeBron samples were worth noting, but a new golden colorway of the KD IV might’ve been the top news for Nike’s Big Three. The Supreme X Nike SB Dunk Low released this week to a rabid crowd desperate for some enticing SB Dunk collaborations, while another revamped classic in the Air Max 90 Hyperfuse ‘Infrared’ got Air Max fans into the frenzy. Air Force 1s were worth noting as well, particularly the Foamposite Low and the fire-proof Dover Street Market collaboration.

The Air Penny saga continues this Holiday, as a first detailed viewing of the “Orlando” Penny V dropped this week, so maybe that model will be included ten years from now when Nike Basketball decides to do a thirty-year retrospective (they just announced a sick 20-year retrospective, beginning this Monday). Fila teams up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for a playful sneaker collaboration, New Balance and long-time retailer West NYC partner up, and a sick rainbow leopard colorway of the Vans Authentic leads another bunch of great Vans headlines. Arguably the best tennis player in history gets a special colorway of the Vapor 9 Tour as a reward for his latest victory, while other Nike athletes get noticed for their off-the-court footwear selections. Sneaker Con confirms another date in Miami on August 4th, so keep that circled on your calendar. Finally, Sneaker News gives props to 5 memorable Air Trainer 1 releases as a celebration of the shoe’s 25th Anniversary. More great headlines below, so take a look and be on top of your Sneaker News game!

A heavy focus on basketball settled in this week, as Team USA’s roster was whittled down to the final 12. It’s first exhibition game against the Dominican Republic proved that the Red, White, and Blue are again the team to beat, but expect a competitive battle in the Olympics as Team USA completes its preparation in the World Basketball Festival, which is now underway. In Air Jordan news, a first detailed look at the upcoming ‘Bred’ Air Jordan IV was seen, while we got the exclusive story on the true origin of the Gentry Humphrey PE. LeBron James leaked a pair of his own special make-ups of the LeBron 9 Low inspired by ‘Arnold Palmer’, but that might’ve been topped by the Sneaker News exclusive preview of the FC Barcelona colorways of the Kobe VII. Another premier Nike signature athlete, Paul Rodriguez, sat down with Sneaker News this week to chat with about his latest sig shoe and some classic SB Dunks he’s skated in.

This week’s top headlines were rife with collaborations as well; Liberty of London preps for another release this coming Monday, A.P.C. previews its on NSW partnership, Ronnie Fieg’s next Asics makes a provocative splash, and Vans joins forces with the legendary Metallica. And speaking of legends, two of the all-time greatest Air Max colorways get a vintage makeover for 2013. The 2012 MLB All-Star Game was definitely worth tuning into as Nike outfitted the league’s brightest with the brightest cleats for the Home Run Derby and the mid-summer classic. The week’s best custom sneaker could be a trio of Air Max colorways derived from one of the funkiest SB Dunk releases of all-time, while a questionable look-see sample of the Air Jordan X stirred up an interesting discussion regarding the nature of Michael’s return to the game in ’95. Anchoring the evening’s news was a look back at five of the most memorable ‘Pack’ releases, from the earliest Dunks to a lengthy collab with some of the world’s most respected sneaker shops. Sneaker News Weekly Rewind won’t disappoint, so read on below and get caught up!

What a way to kick off the second half of 2012! We brought you a first look at the official packaging set-up for the Golden Moment Pack, while two interesting Air Jordan IV PEs (the Gentry and the Quai) made some notable headlines. Staying in the PE category, Amare Stoudemire was the recipient of a sick ‘Knicks’ color-up of the Air Max Hyperposite, while a potential World Champion edition of the LeBron 9 stirred up some nice discussion. Nike SB continues to force its way into the top sneaker headlines with the confirmed release date of the Pushead 2 and a further look at the Levi’s collab, and even Jeremy Scott won back some of his detractors with a solid Spring 2013 preview. One of the best headlines of the week was the official unveiling of the 2012 Ewing 33 Hi’s, dropping in August in four OG colorways.

Nike teams up with its subsidiary brand Hurley for another collaboration, while Sneaker Freaker stretched its 10th Anniversary celebration with the Supra Skytop III. Saucony hits us with the ‘Grey Devil’ by Solebox, while Tinie Tempah of the UK designed his own Blazer Mid LR and released all 60 pairs scavenger hunt-style. The first half of 2012 comes to a close, so let’s close the book on ‘Part 1′ with a bang. Jordan Brand unveiled a great collaboration with Portland-based Undertow for a limited edition Pack. Nike Basketball unveiled the new age of athletic training with the launch of the Nike+ Sport Pack, which Sneaker News was fortunate enough to get to wear-test a day before the launch. One of the rarest LeBrons in history were chopped up to make a piece of custom art, while Nike SB got into its own cut-and-sew in its collaboration with Levi’s. Another feral side of Kobe’s game popped up with the Cheetah, while the Scoring Title KD IV was confirmed for a release. Air Force 1s continue their torrid comeback streak with the release of the Jewel AF1 and the unveiling of July’s new Nike iD options.

We also previewed a bunch of Spring 2013 Nike Sportswear Retros while giving you a look at a sample of one of this year’s most anticipated Retro releases. Nike’s universal currency known as ‘Fuel’ takes form on the feet of NFL athletes, while another rainbow-gradient pair of Nikes in the Footscape Woven Chukka Motion ‘Rainbow’ shines with its own palette of colors. Yeezy, Marky and RiRi were topics of discussion thanks to their ‘Feet’ sightings as well. Vans launched the LXVI Collection with one of the best sneaker teasers we’ve seen in a while, New Balance keeps ‘simple’ as fresh as possible with its 2013 releases, and Converse hooks up with UK’s Foot Patrol for what is likely another banger. The dust settled on the massive event that was the Nike Air Yeezy 2 release, with varying spots around the globe taking a different approach to bringing the much anticipated sneakers to their customers. Once they did arrive (Kim Kardashian got hers) we gave you a side by side comparison of the 1 and the 2, taking a look at the build up and reception of both. That wasn’t the only big event over the weekend, as the 2012 NBA Finals got underway with LeBron and KD both putting their excellence (and excellent sneakers) on display for the world to see. If old school basketball sneaks are more your thing though the Air Jordan category certainly saw some awesome news this week, with a gang of confirmed retro releases for the early part of 2013 that should have your mouth watering. Customizers went crazy painting their kicks up, we got an early sneak peek at what the KD and SB lines will look like in the future, and even showed you what the Nike Zoom Kobe VII still has left in the tank.

The next camo equipped Nike Air Force 1 gets an oddball release date (Sunday anyone?) and Derrelle Revis gets what looks to be his own signature shoe. Speaking of superstars getting their own shoes the Lil Wayne x Supra collab has been officially confirmed. The Three Stripes made some noise with their unorthodox models, from the T-Mac retro the the bonkers Jeremy Scott creations. Trainer makers continue to collaborate with specialty shops around the world, with more shots from the Solebox x Asics project popping up and a big reveal on Urban Outfitters’ team up with New Balance. Lastly we kept one Swooshed up classic in our sights all week-the Nike Air Foamposite Pro, paying tribute to the model by running down some of the favorite and forgotten colorways of the past. We’ve got all that and more tucked away right after the jump so come with us to check out the Sneaker News Weekly Rewind to make sure you’re up to date on all of it.

weekly rewind summary 6 8 Sneaker News Weekly Rewind: 6/2 6/8

Yeezy taught us that getting his kicks was much easier said that done, but Sneaker News did its best to keep you on top of all the release info to maximize your chances of copping the second Kanye x Nike shoe. In Air Jordan news, we got a first clear look at the Air Jordan IX ‘Olive’ and the Air Jordan VI ‘Golden Moments’, while release information for the ‘Gym Green’ Foamposite pleased the Foam-crazed circles. Two new Kobe take-down models called the VII.5 and Venomenon III will drop soon, while a look at a number of upcoming Lunar Hyperdunk+ colorways topped the Nike Basketball headlines. NBA Feet focused on the two Conference Finals match-ups, as the OKC Thunder advanced to the Finals while the Heat/Celtics were pushed to a decisive Game 7. Reebok continues to make headlines with the Marvel x Reebok Pack, with some of our favorite heroes like Wolverine and Captain America taking form on some popular Reebok models.

Vans and Supreme will collaborate for a new set of Authentics trimmed with Corduroy, while a detailed look at the ‘Steel Blue’ by Ronnie Fieg brought some more heat to the smoldering New Balance corner. The release info for the second set of Packer Shoes x Saucony Grid 9000s dropped this week, while a special colorway of the upcoming adiZero Rose 3.0 paying homage to another legendary Chicago sports team was previewed. The HOT 97 Summer Jam is one of the definitive dates that marks the beginning of the Summer season, and it was that massive concert where we saw some awesome sneaker heat on some big-time hip-hop artists. A nice collection of Air Jordan custom jobs like the ‘Floral’ Air Jordan V and the light-up Air Jordan IIIs garnered a ton of attention, as did an autographed PE of the Air Jordan VIII made for Kobe Bryant. Finally, Sneaker News focused on five legendary Air Force 1′s for this week’s Classics Revisited where we relived some of the earlier icons that helped pave the road for today’s sneaker culture. rewind 6 1 12 summary Sneaker News Weekly Rewind: 5/26 6/1

June is officially here (my how fast the year has gone by), so we’ll kick off the new month with yet another Weekly Rewind with amazing news. We finally caught a first detailed look at the upcoming ‘Raptors’ Air Jordan VII while getting treated with a new Son Of Mars colorway. Nike officially unveiled the most hyped shoe of the year (the Yeezy 2), although by then, Sneaker News had the Yeezy 2 covered from beginning to end. The Nike BBall trio were headlines again; KD got his Scoring Title props, LeBron 9 Low extends through June, and Kobe chants ‘USA’ with a new colorway. Some older Nike Basketball hits came to light, as we got treated with more angles of the Dream Team Collection, while the ‘World Basketball Festival’ Pack, consisting of Washington, Barcelona, and London, will get Dunked and Forced out. Can’t forget the ‘Miami Dolphins’ colorway of the Speed Turf Max either!

Nike SB’s June arrivals are hitting stores, but it was a teaser of an upcoming Brooklyn Projects collaboration that got our attention. Collaborations were key; Packer Shoes hits us with the ‘Tech Pack’ while Asics partners with Afew and WOEI in two separate projects. adidas hits us with some Jeremy Scott specialties for Fall/Winter 2012, and Reebok continues to make noise with the confirmation of the Twilight Zone re-release – not to mention this week’s Classics Revisited feature. Back to Nike – Cole Haan and Umbro have parted ways with Nike (effective in 2013), but they made up with that ‘loss’ with the completed Nike Logo project, which displays every single Nike logo in history. There’s a lot more to see below so kick off June with the best recap of the best sneaker site out there!
