SPIKE LEE Spike Lee is a film director who played a key role in the early years of the Air Jordan line, endorsing the sneakers via his Mars Blackmon character in ad campaigns. Lee has maintained a close role with Jordan Brand since, resulting in hybrid models like the Jordan Spiz’ike and the Jordan Son of Mars being named after him.

Spike Lee’s shoe-game has gone “grown” recently, much in part due to Revive Customs and his insane redone Lunargrands done just for the Brooklyn-born film director. This latest custom features a tonal orange upper with a classic Knicks blue Lunar midsole and the jersey mesh print on the upper for that sporty touch on this refined shoe. Finishing off the custom is the custom “SL” logo on the heel inspired by the original Cole Haan logo, the throwback Knicks logo on the right insole, and a pixelated version of the Mars Blackmon logo on the left insole. What’s better is that Spike wore these during Game 6, when the Knicks clinched their second-round playoff berth. We’ve got a high-res gallery below, so give it a look and let us know if you’d cop these Knicks-inspired Cole Haan Lunargrands if they ever dropped in store!

The Jordan Brand love runs in the family as Spike Lee’s son Jackson was given his own sneaker called the Jordan Son of Mars Low. The Son of Mars category began last year, but Jackson had some input in the design of this new hybrid sneaker, which combines the magnificent era of Air Jordan III through VI. In addition to the “Tour Yellow” and tomorrow’s “Grape Ice”, Jackson gives us an advanced look at the “DTRT” colorway and a fourth version that appears to have “White/Cement” flavor. More images below as well as a close-up of Jackson’s Mars-inspired logo, so take a look and let us know if you’re copping tomorrow’s release of the “Grape Ice”.

Part of the equation Jordan Brand Classic 2013 is basketball, and the showcasing of young talent and future superstars. But another part of the equation, one just as crucial, is the goal of bringing together a mini-community of athletes and providing them with a once-in-a-lifetime experience crafted by the Jordan Brand. Leading up to the trio of games on Saturday, the kids bopped around NYC and discovered the heritage of the brand throughout the city, from a sit down event with Spike Lee and Sway out in Brooklyn to a trip to Gleason’s Gym for some boxing with Andre Ward.
Of course yet another aspect of the event is its star studded status, one that was particularly prevalent this year thanks to this year’s New York/Brooklyn locale. Countless athletes, rappers, and the like were spotted courtside (Amar’e Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony, Victor Cruz, and Fabolous just to name a few). And then there was the Drake concert immediately following the final game which brought everybody out of their seats at the culmination of the evening. Continue reading to see what the Jordan Brand Classic kids were up to before the games went down, the celebrities that showed up, Drake’s explosive performance, and more in our Jordan Brand Classic 2013 event recap.

We’re rewinding a few years back (2009 to be exact) to the Nike Sportswear “Spike Lee” Pack that featured the Air Max 97, Big Nike High, and Blazer Mid…and almost the Air Trainer 2 LE. The Spike Lee Pack was tied together by the dope tongue label depicting Spike’s rectangular-framed glasses which was also used on the Air Trainer 2 LE, but for reasons unknown, the Trainer was never released in the Pack. The colorway is definitely much louder than the rest of the set, which is probably why we never really forget about ‘em. A rare chance to own this sample is up now, so refresh your memory and place your bids in on this true auction from mandmanda2445 on eBay.

The Cole Haan Lunargrand seems to be a favorite of Spike Lee’s, as he’s been spotted several times wearing the Lunar-ed out wingtips, saddles, and chukkas from time to time. It looks like he wanted to add some special flavor, so Revive Customs rose to the occasion and reworked a fragment design x Cole Haan Lunargrand Saddle in “Knicks” style, with orange soles, a royal blue upper with jersey material holes, and brown leather uppers. This special Birthday edition for Spike Lee is quite the follow-up to Revive’s amazing “1928″ custom editions that we showed you not long ago, and when seeing them on Spike’s feet when he was sitting courtside during Carmelo’s half-dollar against the Heat earlier this week, they look even better! We hope this only marks the beginning of a string of Cole Haan customs, so check out the exclusive photos of the shoes and Spike below and let us know what you think.

Given how much time Spike Lee spends on the floor at Madison Square Garden, it’s no surprise that he’s been keeping his eyes on the kicks of various Knicks. 35 year-old rookie Pablo Prigioni apparently made a little faux-pas that rubbed Spike the wrong way. Ahead of a recent game he nearly laced up in a Lakers colorway of the Nike Zoom Kobe VII, a decision that he was promptly chastised for by the famous director. Check out the full video after the jump, in which Spike even reveals that Prigioni brought the same pair out against the Lakers, and keep your eyes locked on our NBA Feet recap to see of Prigioni takes Spike’s advice for the rest of the season.

Like Jack Nicholson is the to Los Angeles Lakers, Spike Lee is to the New York Knicks. The New York-native has been a mainstay at most Knicks games and certainly a main attraction at big-ticket match-ups, such as last night’s clash between NY and LA. Spike commemorated this game by wearing the recently unveiled Air Jordan XX8 in a New York-inspired colorway, featuring alternating blue and orange outsoles and inner booties. Will this be a Knicks PE of sorts, or will Carmelo Anthony even rock these later on? Check out Spike and these special-edition Air Jordan XX8s below and stay tuned for more updates.
