SPIKE LEE Spike Lee is a film director who played a key role in the early years of the Air Jordan line, endorsing the sneakers via his Mars Blackmon character in ad campaigns. Lee has maintained a close role with Jordan Brand since, resulting in hybrid models like the Jordan Spiz’ike and the Jordan Son of Mars being named after him.

Now hold up I ain’t trying to stunt man/but the Yeezys jumped over the Jumpman
That Kanye claim was first made on his recently released track New Gold Flow, appropriately echoed last night as him and the GOOD Music team performed a gang of tracks at the 2012 BET Awards. And while we’re not making any claims that ‘Ye is anywhere close to Mike’s line as far as importance in the sneaker world, you wouldn’t know it by looking at the celebrity crowd in attendance for the award show on the weekend. Kevin Hart wore the Nike Air Yeezy 2 ‘Pure Platinum’ as did Kanye, with Wale and Spike Lee both wearing the ‘Black/Solar Red’ at one point or other. Separating himself from saturation of his second Nike design Kanye even broke out a sample pair of Nike Air Yeezy 1′s to prove his footwear prowess. Of course Wale, self described as “Mr. never wear the same thing” had a nice switch up as well when he brought out some unreleased heat in the form of the Nike Air Penny V ‘Phoenix Suns’. Click through for all the shots of those guys and more including Stalley, Jamie Foxx, and Big Sean after the jump and let us know who had the best sneaker game at the 2012 BET Awards. Photos: Zimbio

Although he promised us that he would wear them for Game 4, Spike Lee could not resist his own temptation and wore his Knicks Foamposite PE for Game 3 – the first game of the series to be held at Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately for Spike and Knicks fans worldwide, the New York Knicks could not seize the Home Court opportunity and fell deeper in the loss column, facing a possible sweep at the hands of the Miami Heat as we near Game 4 this Sunday. We’ve got some shots of Spike Lee wearing his Foamposite PEs courtside below, so take a look and hopefully the Knicks’ fortunes would be a bit better come Game 4. Photos: espn

Yep. Spike Lee has his own Foamposites now. Here’s a look at a pair of Knicks-colored Air Foamposite Ones with Spike Lee’s icnoic logos stamped on the heel; it features the punchy orange Foamposite upper matched with Royal Blue on the inner bootie and the lace-placket, bound together with a tranlucent outsole. Spike’s allegiance may be with the Air Jordan, but he’s been spotted many times courtside rockin’ Nikes, and you can see these for yourself as he “scheduled” himself to wear these for Game 4 of the Knicks/Heat series. Will these be enough to distract LeBron and Wade? Remember, Sneaker News showed you a sick Air Foamposite One ‘Knicks’ customs, but these appear to be true issues from Nike to Spike! Check out the extra angles below and let us know what you think.

Going from 12th man on the bench to superstar point guard in one of the most celebrated sports arena in the world is one thing, but to be the toast of the town in the year’s most star-studded basketball event is on a completely different level. Jeremy says he still has a hard time letting everything sink in, but we wonder how he handled being one of the brightest spotlights of the NBA All-Star Weekend. One of Lin’s proudest supporters is none other than Knicks fanatic Spike Lee, who was spotted during the All-Star Weekend wearing one of the funniest t-shirts we’ve seen; Jeremy Lin as Mars Blackmon on Spike Lee. Mars, as we know, is a fictional persona forged by Spike Lee during the Air Jordan advertisements in the early 90′s, but even Mars will admit that Lin’s success and meteoris rise goes beyond ‘the shoes’. If Linsanity has taken you over, hit up The Forest Lab to cope your own shirt! via FRESHNESS/jose3030

New York Knicks super-fan Spike Lee is recognized for being decked out in the best NY Knicks gear there is, but on Friday and Sunday, the Knicks’ last two games, Spike Lee went back in time to bring out some vintage Jeremy Lin in the form of his Palo Alta H.S. and Harvard jerseys. On Friday, Spike wore the Green/Black/White jersey at the request of Jeremy’s High School coach (according to NBA), and matched it with a neon green undershirt and the Electric Green Foamposite Pros. He followed that up with the Crimson red Harvard jersey, pairing that one with the Metallic Red Foamposite One, but don’t accuse Spike of jumping on the Harvard bandwagon; he taught a class in the early 90′s at the Ivy League school. Which Foam x Jeremy combo is more “Linsane”? Check out the Spike after the jump and let us know.

Spike Lee was out of uniform (but not of character) during last night’s Knicks/Bulls match-up as he donned an outfit supporting a different NY team – the New York Giants. To match his New York Giants beanie and Lawrence Taylor jersey, Spike Lee wore the Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Metallic Red’ while cheering on the Knicks, who put up a valiant effort against Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls. Luckily for him, there are no Home games scheduled for Superbowl Sunday, so his attendance streak won’t be broken! Check out one of the most sneaker-crazed celebs in Hollywood (by way of Brooklyn) after the jump and let us know what you think.

This February 2012 release of the Jordan Spiz’ike has induced a copious amount of discussion anytime it’s featured here on Sneaker News for a number of reasons; first, the validity behind naming this Spiz’ike the famed ‘Bordeaux’ stirred up a sturdy debate. Then, opinions changed as Spike Lee and Jordan Brand presented these as a gift to President Barack Obama during his latest presidential outing in New York City. If Barack Obama wins another term of presidency, now you’ll have to ask yourself: “Is it the shoes?”. Just yesterday Sneaker News showed you the Jordan Spiz’ike Custom Box made just for President Obama, and later that evening, Mr. Obama was presented with the special gift from Spike Lee himself. President Obama is a Chicago native and is a huge Chicago Bulls and Air Jordan fan, but do you think Barack will keep these on ice, or will he un-DS them for a pick-up game? If you missed out on last night’s post on the custom presidential-grade box, check it out below and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
