SPIKE LEE Spike Lee is a film director who played a key role in the early years of the Air Jordan line, endorsing the sneakers via his Mars Blackmon character in ad campaigns. Lee has maintained a close role with Jordan Brand since, resulting in hybrid models like the Jordan Spiz’ike and the Jordan Son of Mars being named after him.

President Barack Obama is currently in Harlem, NY for a Big Apple visit where NYC-native Spike Lee presented the leader of the free world with the custom shoebox containing the Jordan Spiz’ike. It features the presidential seal carved into a rich brown wood box, containing the Jordan Spiz’ike ‘Bordeaux’ (a February 2012 release). With his roots in Chicago, the president is certainly a Jordan fan, so it’ll only be a matter of time before Barack rocks these in one of his well-publicized White House pick-up games. Let us know if you think if this package is worthy of the President of the USA and stick with Sneaker News for more info and updates.

The Son Of Mars has stirred up some interesting debate once that ‘Olympic’ colorway surfaced late last week, but the understated White/Black/Purple that we showed you earlier seemed to have yielded more positive results. Meshing several Air Jordans into one model is easy to do; doing it seamlessly is exceedingly difficult. Among all the Air Jordan hybrids to have released in the past – the Spiz’ike, Six Rings, Rare Air, Dub Zero, 6-17-23 – only the first of that bunch experienced wide success, so maybe the Spike Lee tie-in will help the Son Of Mars when it releases later this year. This new set of detailed shots of the White/Black/Purple colorway shows that the inclusion of the Air Jordan XX strap gives it a – dare we say – Yeezy-like atmosphere; a closer look at said strap reveals some updated Spike Lee x Michael Jordan imagery, like ‘Mars Blackmon’, ‘Is It The Shoes?’, and ‘Yo Yo Yo’. Continue reading for another look at the Jordan Son Of Mars in this understated colorway, and let us know if you think the Son Of Mars is a potential hit. via MarqueeSole.

If it ever made sense for a non-basketball player to get a PE colorway, than Spike Lee would have to be the dude in question. His courtside dedication to the New York Knicks has been unmatched through the years, and since he already has a Jordan Brand hybrid model named after him in the form of the Jordan Spiz’ike, the homage just makes sense. The alternating blue and orange colorways were made extra special by an NYC scavenger hunt where pairs were tucked in hidden locales in the city, each one signed by Spike himself and accompanied by the super luxe wooden boxes, only eight of which were produced. Fortunately, at least one of the lucky winners from said scavenger hunt is parting with their pair, with this size 8.5 available now on your favorite auction site. Hit the jump for the full images and scoop this collectors item up from ace1185 on eBay.

Spike Lee seems to leave a profound mark in whatever realm he steps foot on. Already considered to be one of the iconic film directors of our generation and noted sneakerheads of the sub-culture, Spike Lee’s interests have crossed over from time to time – most notably in the 1989 film ‘Do The Right Thing’. Nikes and Air Jordans are easily spotted throughout the entire movie, which is a rather accurate depiction of the popularity of sneakers in the inner city; kicks like the Air Jordan IV, Nike Air Trainer III, and Nike Air Force II are just some of what can be seen during many of the memorable scenes. Even more recently, Jordan Brand has released a few select Air Jordan Retros in inspired colorways, like the Air Jordan 1 and Air Jordan III. We’ve got a quick sampling of Complex’s latest list below, so take a look and head to Complex for the full feature.

Plenty of sneakerheads cite the feeling of being a kid again for the reason behind their collecting. You know, chasing down that one pair that mom wouldn’t let you buy or that you missed out on on release date. You know what else can make you feel like a kid again? Action figures. And if they revolve around the world of sneakers that’s two birds with one stone right? Recently we saw the RUN DMC x adidas Originals Superstar 80′s accompanied by vinyl figurines of Run and DMC, and of course there was the Nike Mag 2011 ceramic replica that served as a consolation prize to those who couldn’t get the real thing. The latest in toys for sneaker enthusiasts is this Spike Lee ‘Mars Blackmon’ action figure, with Spike represented as his character in the classic ad series that helped galvanize the Air Jordan craze. Check out the detailed shots of the figure, including the mini ‘Fire Red’ Air Jordan III’s, and grab one of these from Uncle York.

Spike Lee has long been repping Air Jordans in NYC, but now with the arrival of Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks, Jordan Brand has finally made the Big Apple a more official home away from home. Earlier today, we gave you a heads up that Spike will be appearing at the 34th Street Footaction on Saturday, but it looks like JB has more in store for the upcoming weekend. To celebrate the release of some very New York inspired colorways of both Melo and Spike’s shoes, over the next few days, Jordan Brand will be paying homage to the NYC roots of both and hooking up some lucky New Yorkers in the process. Eight sets of amazing signed commemorative boxes will be strategically placed around the city on Friday and Saturday in some spots that hold specific significance to Carmelo and Spike. Jordan will be tweeting clues about the locations starting tomorrow and the first person to solve each clue and find the Jordan street team at the corresponding spot will win both pairs. Eight different locations, eight different winners. Check out the amazing prizes that await after the jump and be sure to follow @jumpman23 on Twitter for the scavenger hunt clues. Good luck to all!
