SPIKE LEE Spike Lee is a film director who played a key role in the early years of the Air Jordan line, endorsing the sneakers via his Mars Blackmon character in ad campaigns. Lee has maintained a close role with Jordan Brand since, resulting in hybrid models like the Jordan Spiz’ike and the Jordan Son of Mars being named after him.

Spike Lee played a major role in the earlier Air Jordan ad campaigns as well as promoting the relevance of the Air Jordan in pop culture. In 2006, Jordan Brand paid Spike the biggest honor by giving him his own sneaker, utilizing the prize elements of the Air Jordan III, IV, V, VI, and IX (you can find more details about the Spiz’ikes here), and with the release of the ‘Knicks’ colorways, consider the Spiz’ike coming full circle to Spike Lee’s hardcore allegiance to the New York Knicks. With that said, Complex compiled a list of the 10 best Air Jordan Spiz’ikes of all-time, meaning the chances of any Spiz’ike making this list is better than a coin-flip. We’ve got a small crop of their picks below, but head to Complex to see the list in its entirety after you let us know what your favorite Spiz’ike colorway is.

Celebrities are sports fans too, and when you have celebrity money, you have celebrity seats. Of course, there are those celebs who can be as fanatical as your average Joe, like Penny Marshall is for the Lakers, Ashley Judd is for the Kentucky Wildcats, and Spike Lee is for the New York Knicks. Spike’s been screaming haterations and hollerations at opposing team players for decades (particularly at a certain former Indiana Pacers sharpshooter), but no Knick game is a true Knick game without seeing Spike covered in blue and orange, waving his towels and screaming at referees. For NY’s Playoff run earlier this year, Spike was seen rocking the Air Jordan Spiz’ike in a special PE colorway in blue and orange, and recent developments of the Spiz’ike has shown that the shoes will in fact release to the public. Here we have a detailed look at the orange ‘alternate’ colorway of the Spiz’ike; it features a mix of tumbled leather and suede, with a tonal-orange elephant print and a white/black laser-graphic inner lining. Check out the detailed shots below and stick with Sneaker News for more Jordan Brand updates! via MarqueeSole.

Nike’s versatile marketing campaigns have covered a wide spectrum of consumers, using inspirational messages and imagery to coerce mental and emotional reactions as well as playful themes and skits, like the Air Jordan commercials from the early 90′s. If you remember the famous Air Jordan x Spike Lee commercials, then you’ll get a kick out of these Nike x Michael Jordan trading cards, which feature famous Nike print-ads in mini trading card form. These date back to the early 90′s, and feature six different cards, packaged as a set, and boxed with a neat Air Jordan pop-up display. Check out the images of this rare collectible after the jump and check out the unpacking process that we all enjoyed during the heyday of trading cards! via JordansDaily.

Spike Lee came dressed with his Sunday best as he attended the daytime game between the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks. He sported a nice hat in celebration of the Easter holiday, but all the attention was focused on his sneakers – the Air Jordan Spiz’ike in a NY-specific Blue/Orange that he bragged about just a few days ago. Although the Knicks fell to the Celtics and had their season shortened, the game itself was star-studded on courtside, as Spike was joined by comedian/actor Zack Galifianakis, musician/actor Jason Schwartzman, Brian Baumgartner of (Kevin of ‘The Office’), and many more. Check out Spike’s Spiz’ike PEs after the jump and let us know what you think.

It’s great to see New York basketball relevant again, and the Knicks could easily be up 1-0 in their opening round series against the Celtics were it not for a Ray Allen 3-pointer and a questionable shot attempt by Carmelo. The Knicks are still very much alive in the series because they’ve proven that they can bang with the elite teams in the East, and they certainly have one of the best sideline cheerleaders in the game in Spike Lee. The Brooklyn native, close friend of MJ, and rabid Knicks follower has been spotted all season long cheering on the blue and orange while wearing some sweet sneakers, like his Air Force 1 Low iD, the Air Trainer SC, and the Zoom Huarache TR Mid, but you might seem him rock these New York Knicks PE colorways of the Air Jordan Spiz’ike very soon (perhaps during tonight’s Game 2?). One version features a tonal orange upper with a black/white midsole and black ‘wings’, while the second tonal royal blue features orange wing-tips with the same black/white midsole, with translucent outsole tying ‘em all together. Check out another shot of Spike’s Spiz’ikes after the jump and let us know what you think. via Spike Lee/Complex.

The stars were out to see one of the biggest regular season NBA games thanks to the trade deadline shake-up that moved nearly 10% of the league’s players, including the most notable of all, Carmelo Anthony. Melo recently made the move from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks, a move, according to LeBron James,’ that resulted in a “shift of power” from the West to the East. The new look New York Knicks took their talents to South Beach to reignite the rivalry between the two Eastern Conference foes, and with a strong fourth quarter finish, they ended up taking home the W. A number of celebrities were on hand to witness the win for the Knicks, including their number one fan, Spike Lee, who showed up wearing his throwback Knicks’ uniform with a pair of new Nike Zoom Kobe VI iD’s in Knicks’ colors. Lil Wayne was spotted courtside wearing a pair of Nike Air DT Max 96′s and his YMCMB DJ, DJ Khaled, was seen courtside next to Baby wearing a pair of the upcoming Nike LeBron 8 ‘Entourage’. Spike Lee made the trek over to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey to watch his New York Knicks take on the New Jersey Nets this weekend and Spike, in typical fashion, came dressed in Knicks attire that spanned from his Orange winter cap to his Knicks Varsity Jacket and throwback jersey. While Spike typically matches his kicks with his Knicks jersey this game he decided to bring out a pair of the newly released Nike Zoom Huarache TR Mid’s that were a part of the Alpha Pack that was released in very limited quantities this past week. Even though the Black, Cool Grey, and Volt Nike Trainer’s don’t match the Knicks’ colors it’s hard to deny that these are a dope looking pair of kicks. After the jump you can check out who else attended the game and let us know what you think about Spike’s Huarache TR Mid’s.
