nike dunk high stussy 2001 Classics Revisited: Stussy x Nike Dunk High (2001)

NIKE DUNK HIGH WEEK

What an amazing week it’s been for Dunk nuts worldwide! We’ve covered four of the more memorable Dunk Highs of all-time, starting with the UNDFTD No-Liners on Monday and hitting you with Wu-Tang fire yesterday. But no set of ‘best-of’ sneakers is complete without the inclusion of Stussy, the clothing label and urban culture anchor that paved the way for the many sneaker collaborations that followed, so in a way, we’re saving the best for last. This 2001 Dunk you see here was actually first ever collaboration between Nike and a clothing company (not to be confused with the Stussy x Nike Air Huarache of 2000 – a project between Nike and Michael Koppelman of Stussy UK); could the Stussy x Nike Dunk High be credited for setting the trend of sexy sneaker collabs of the 2000′s? Let’s take a look.

By 2001, the Dunk had grown to be a cult classic, gaining serious steam across the globe for its skate-friendly and Retro appeal. So, Nike decided to hit up Stussy yet again allowed them to give their own spin on the Dunk, composing two completely distinct colorways – a tonal black leather version and the Brown/Khaki we’re placing the spotlight on here. While both colorways were rather simple, they introduced exotic materials and specialty fabrics on the Swoosh – snakeskin on the Black colorway and ostrich on the Brown. The Stussy x Nike Dunk High was also a ‘test-run’ or experiment of sorts on extremely limited distributions; each of the four Stussy chapter stores (NYC, LA, Tokyo, London) released twenty-four pairs in total per day (twelve pairs per colorway) until the entire stock was depleted. This resulted in a stretch of 2+ weeks of line-ups every morning, setting the table for other ‘camp-outs’ for these limited-edition sneakers. Style, quality, concept, and trendsetting – the Stussy x Nike Dunk High had it all. Take a look at the extra looks below and stay tuned to Sneaker News as we hit you with yet another week of Classics Revisited treats!

Stussy x Converse Sea Star + Elm LS

stussy x converse collection available Stussy x Converse Sea Star + Elm LS

It’s hard to come up with a better canvas for a sneaker collaboration (and a fairly low key one, at that) than a couple of silhouettes with the most minimal of branding.  And that’s exactly what Stussy has chosen in the Converse Sea Star, a design that strongly resembles the CONS Skate version, but whose unique camo ripstop colorway juxtaposing a black version with luxurious caramel accents is unlike those we’ve seen to this point.  And the same goes with Stussy’s Elm LS, a recent introduction to Converse’s skateboarding lineup that drops its embossed side panel Star and Chevron for a stamp featuring one of the most famous signatures in streetwear.  Click through to see how all three incorporate a camo footbed and look for yours arriving now at top Converse stockists like Premier.

Stussy x Nike Blazer Inspired Colorways Coming in 2012

stussy x nike blazer inspired colorways 2012 1 Stussy x Nike Blazer Inspired Colorways Coming in 2012

The Blazer High vs Mid discussion is a repeated point of contention among sneakerheads who recognize how similar those silhouettes really are, but the real question with these new pairs is who is responsible for their creation? These two new Nike Blazer Highs look a whole lot like the Stussy Blazer Mids that dropped back in 2002 when collaborative releases were in their infant stage, and their 10th anniversary timing begs the question if the Double-S will be involved in this celebration. Either way, the colorways are quite similar, and aside from the High/Mid differences (outrigger/’foxing’, Swoosh shape, etc.), it’s worth noting that these feature a tumbled texture on the upper wheras the ’02s offered a smoother leather. The silver pair also appears to feature a bit of the VNTG series’ pre-yellowing on their woodgrain vulc sole sidewalls; would you rather see an NSW Vintage release or a Stussy collab redux when these hit retailers like size? later this year? Let us know when you click through for more images and stick with Sneaker News for more info.

Stussy Deluxe x Converse CX-Pro Ox ’2nd Edition’

Stussy collaborated with the One Star on both Elm and Sea Star lowtops in March, but they must like the Converse CX-Pro Ox best, because already for the second time in just over six months, they’re readying a duo of new releases.  These two are split evenly between simple, as in black on black with a white sole and laces (blocked just like last year’s) and relatively complex, which would be the earthy brown camo whose round shapes gives that pair a slightly less aggressive feel than your average camouflage sneakers.  Check out both in more photos below and expect these at Converse Japan stockists shortly.  via EspionageKicks

Stussy Deluxe x Converse Elm

stussy converse skateboarding elm Stussy Deluxe x Converse Elm

Converse Skateboarding capitalized on the trend toward clean lines and classic silhouettes when it introduced the Elm LS last autumn, and now the sleek one-piece design has been taken a step further by one of the pioneers of skate apparel.  The Stussy Deluxe x Converse Elm skips the traditional Star and Chevron in favor of Shawn’s surname embossed a bit further back than the usual branding.  This effectively lengthens the design by adding more uninterrupted leather, the premium look of which really is the star of this slightly hiking-inspired build.  Black, moss and sand colorways are set to arrive at select retailers on Friday, March 16th, and you can see more shots of each pair after the jump below.  via FRESHNESS
