Supra Owen “London 2012″

Supra hasn’t signed a deal to supply podium kicks to Olympic athletes like Nike, but they too are joining the party in the London leadup with a patriotic take on their first running design.  The Supra Owen ‘London 2012′ is a bold mix of red atop blue mesh with a white sole and gold branding, a departure from the navy we’re more accustomed to seeing with USA Olympic designs that gives these an added punch.  A golden footbed is a nice finishing touch and has the effect of attracting your attention to the SUPRAFOAM EVA compound they share in common with the rest of the Crown brand’s releases.  Hopefully, skateboarding will make it into the Rio Games four years from now, and the ‘London 2012′ Owens are yours for the taking starting Wednesday, July 11th at select retailers like SNS.

The announcement of a partnership with Lil’ Wayne notwithstanding, Supra hasn’t issued a sneaker collaboration in 2012.  Their last team-up was last December’s ‘Corona’ Cuttler, and not only is this pair based on an entirely different kind of vacation getaway, but it’s also the Crown brand’s first special makeup on their new runner.  The La MJC x Supra Owen has the French creative concern applying the trendy leopard print look on this ‘Solemart Paris‘ special edition commemorating their co-sponsor status at this Sunday, June 24th ‘trainer’-heavy Euro meetup.  Click through for a closer view, let us know what you think of the latest leopard sneakers and whether you’d buy a pair if they were to hit retail.  via Michael Dupouy

Supra Owen ‘Gilded’

You needn’t look any further for proof of the success of the Supra Owen than the ads promoting DC Shoes’ brand new Unilite Trainer.  The Crown brand let the cat out of the bag when it comes to skate brands making a serious impact in the casual-running space, and their game-changer is back with a new colorway that implies a combination of lengthy history and (the potential for) great wealth.  The grey and gold ‘Gilded’ Owen reminds us that even if the late 1800s allowed every man to potentially become the next Andrew Carnegie, all the money in the world couldn’t have bought him a pair of shoes this comfortable for the summertime.  And if we follow the thread of time changing the status quo, how much more should we expect from Supra as the brand continues to expand its throne?  Let us know what you think about the Owen and this new ‘Gilded’ drop after you’ve had a chance to check out the images below and grab your pair straight from Supra.

Supra Owen – May 2012 Colorways

The Supra Owen is the Crown brand’s first running sneaker, a departure for this brand that’d heretofore focused its energies on the skateboarding scene.  It’s a risk that’s paying dividends as sneakerheads and casual buyers alike come to recognize the potential for lightweight and breezy summer comfort coming from this ‘unlikely’ source at a wholly reasonable price point.  The Owen is back for summer with two new colorways, one a ‘Sport Blue’-inspired answer to March’s OG Air Max 1-inspired release, the other closer to the kinds of styles we saw in 2010′s Air Attack Pack thanks to the subtle use of purple accents on an otherwise black base.  Check out both in greater detail below, then grab yours straight from Supra.

Supra Owen – April 2012 Colorways

We’ve seen sneakers become a default footwear choice thanks to comfort and street appeal as well as a microcosm of this movement as basketball sneakers were adopted as one of the cornerstones of skate shoe design, so what does a brand that’s rooted in skate and lifestyle looks do to expand their reach?  In the case of the Crown brand, they got back to most fundamental reason people wear casually wear sneakers instead of traditional dress shoes: comfort.  The Supra Owen offers a lightweight, well-cushioned ride that seems to nod toward several classic designs while ending up in a corner of the market all its own.  Two new colorways are now hitting retailers, and you can see more of the ‘Sprite’ and Chicago-style pairs below before you grab them straight from Supra.

Supra Owen ‘Fast Pack’

Supra’s first runner has to this point appeared exclusively in blocked styles with one color on the upper and another on the midsole.  With these styles, the vague similarities to Nike Air Max 97 and its Jordan CMFT offspring help to denote their position in the market, and now we can add another established style to the bibliography.  The Supra Owen ’Fast Pack’ reveals a white and red edition that offers a tribute to the OG Air Max 1, another in blue and pink that nods at Nike’s early ’90s exuberance and finishes off with a simple black/white combo in the contemporary style described above.  Click through so you can see each of them and grab yours straight from Supra.

Supra Owen – New Images

Supra has so widely expanded their range of colorways and models over the past year or so that the only logical conclusion would be expanding beyond their skateboarding beginnings.  We got the earliest hints of this movement from the Crown brand’s boot offerings, and now their first non-skate athletic release offers a solution to the most fundamental sport.  The Supra Owen is a low-cut runner with a silhouette that’s somewhere between the Jordan CMFT 10 and one of Nike’s LunarLon drops, and though it might not have the technical advantages of the world’s leading running shoe manufacturers, the breathable and super-lightweight 9oz build all but guarantee a comfortable ride (especially for casual purposes).  Check out the first four colorways courtesy of early recipient Ben Baller, and stick with Sneaker News for updates on all the 2012 Supra sneakers.
