Here’s a new Supra S1W that points to another extremely successful rapping renaissance man as a muse, albeit from the opposite end of the spectrum. The ‘Summertime’ S1W takes us back to a time before Breitlings, Bentleys and ‘ballin’, to when DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s ode to warm vibes breathed new life into a Kool & the Gang classic. Supra continues to name its new kicks with indirect subtitles, but this one’s fairly easy to figure out. That’s because even if it’s not referencing Uncle Phil, Carlton and the rest of Will Smith’s Bel Air family, the Supra S1W ‘Banks’ has a luxury look implying you’ve got plenty in your accounts. Supra keeps going with the surname-tagged sneakers, utilizing more suggestion and implication than traditionally overt muse-attributing nicknames. Take for instance this new Supra S1W ‘Cunningham’, a design with clear Red Wing Boots overtones. The ‘Cunningham’ tag doesn’t seem to connect with legendary Philly Eagle jersey number 12 Randall or current Timberwolves reserve player Dante, but a glimpse of the classic construction does indeed bring to mind ‘Happy Days’. Supra’s Stevie Williams signature model is back with a couple of bold new colorways in time for spring skating. The Supra S1W arrives at retail in a pattern that no longer qualifies as ‘concealment’, though the neutral shades at play on this blaze-orange lined hightop are certainly capable of blending in with a huge range of outfits. On the opposite end of the spectrum, you have the less visually complex but more aggressive black and red edition, and both are depicted in greater detail below.
