“I don’t know when the first time I saw someone who had cut them down, but I know it was a trend.”

We’re coming up on the 20th anniversary of Steve Caballero‘s second Vans signature shoe, and in a recent conversation with Complex‘ chief sneakerhead Bengtson, the man called ‘Cab’ shared how he got inspiration from other skaters after his original pro model dropped in 1989. Skaters were chopping off the hightop Caballero to make something more suitable for the street skating that’d come into vogue around the turn of the decade, and when Steve himself decided to give it a shot, history was made. 1992 brought us the Vans Half Cab in the form we know and love it today, and Supreme will drop a super-limited special edition pack in honor of the two decade anniversary that revisits the origins of this skateboarding institution. The custom sneaker scene is bigger now than ever before, and while colorway and sole swaps are great, it’s rare to see the athlete for whom a shoe was both designed and named come in to do the handiwork.  But that’s exactly what skateboarding legend Steve Caballero did for this collaboration between Vans and Supreme on the occasion marking two decades since the debut of his most enduring contribution to the game.  The Supreme x Vans Half Cab 20th Anniversary special edition gets back to the model’s roots with a tiny 20-pair run starting off as the Caballero hightop that celebrated it’s 20th a few years back, and getting scissored down by Steve himself before duct tape finishes off the ankle collar.  Click through to see a video depicting one of the pairs being completed and stick with Sneaker News for updates on this jealousy-inducingly limited release.

Supreme x Vans Half Cab ‘Giraffe Pack’

New York-based skate/lifestyle brand Supreme was among those bridging the gap between the trend that’d been established a bit earlier in Japan, and helped to bring animal prints into full view here in the states.  Their ‘Flies Pack’ of Sk8-His and Eras offered a playful take on the all-over animal look, and now we see these two team up once more to issue another pack from an underused corner of the kingdom.  The Supreme x Vans Half Cab ’Giraffe’ reminds us that only a horsehair adidas Originals Nizza from about a year ago has offered a similar look, all while offering a nice foil against their upcoming Warhol-inspired ‘Campbell Soup’ offerings.  Check out these Giraffe Half Cabs (say that three times fast) in greater detail after the jump, and stick with Sneaker News so we can let you know when they hit US retailers.  via Taobao

Has a can of Campbell’s soup been so hip since Andy Warhol’s iconic paintings in 1962? Donning an all-over print of the trademark soup label, this Vans Authentic is actually a collaborative project with the urban street-wear label Supreme. While the participation of the Warhol camp hasn’t been confirmed, it’s clear that Vans and Supreme went for that ’32 Cans’ look by giving the upper the full wallpaper treatment. No word on a release date just yet, but we’ve got a detailed gallery for you below, so take a look and let us know what you think. via vanscn.

Supreme x Nike SB ’94 ‘Nubuck’ | Available

New York skate giants Supreme owe quite a bit of their reputation to classic basketball designs.  The red box logo became a household institution when ‘Preme collaborated with Nike SB back in 2003 on a duo of Dunk Low Pros, those pairs adding even more ’80s b-ball backstory thanks to the Air Jordan III’s signature elephant print.  So that the Supreme x Nike SB ’94 ended up looking like an old school baller is no great shock, but this design is still sufficiently different from everything else Swoosh skateboarding offers that they still feel like something out of left field.  Wheat and black pairs go the tonal route with their Foamposite heel cups but both utilize gum soles, and are available now at the Supreme flagship stores along with select sizes online.

supreme nike sb 94 nubuck release date 10 Supreme x Nike SB 94 Nubuck Release Date

New York-based Supreme gained its recognition with Nike heads with its collaborations with its SB line, beginning in 2003 with two different low-top Dunks. Since then, Nike SB and Supreme have teamed up to produce some of the most memorable colorways of the entire line, and in 2010, Supreme was rewarded with its own sneaker. On top of choosing its own colorways, Nike SB and Supreme teamed up on a brand new model known as the Nike SB ’94, denoting Supreme’s birth year. After four great colorways were released late last year, not much more was heard regarding the ’94, until we saw a look at the ‘Nubuck’ colorways; a classic tan/wheat nubuck colorway as well as a black colorway. Keynote details of the SB ’94 ‘Nubuck’ is the season-specific colorways and materials as well as the funky Foamposite heel-counter – something you don’t often see on Nike SB shoes. Both colorways are slated for a release this Thursday, November 10th in-store and online at Supreme flagship stores in New York, Los Angeles, and London, and on November 12th in Japan. We’ve got a detailed set of images below so take a look and let us know what you think.

Supreme x Nike SB ’94 ‘Nubuck’

When New York skate and streetwear boutique Supreme collaborated with Nike SB in 2009, theirs were the first colorways of the Zoom Blazer SB that’s been released pretty much every month since in a new palette.  Last year saw the debut of the first ever design-collabo from Swoosh skateboarding, and Supreme’s Nike SB ’94 has stayed off store shelves since it sold out roughly one year ago.  Looks like the first and only Nike SB sneaker with Foamposite will be back and perhaps from this latest tag team project we can take that this special design will only release with the red box logo on its tongues.  These two new Nike SB ’94s switch it up with nubuck instead of suede, black and wheat versions both treated to a bold red footbed.  Click through to see more and stick with Sneaker News for the US release date.  via HB

In a certain very literal way, the most buzzworthy sneaker collaboration of the year, this latest tag-team effort between Supreme and Vans applies an interesting take on a couple of things you never would have pictured together.  Fresh new suede and canvas kicks are far from a nuisance and there’s never been a preppy print featuring such a ‘common’ animal inspiration as the new Supreme x Vans Flies Pack.  New York’s longstanding Red Box Logo appears on the heels of six new pairs split between the Vans Sk8-Hi and Era, all of which will be available in NY, LA and LDN on Thursday, September 29th followed by a Friday, October 1st drop in Japan.
