adidas Originals officially welcomed Teyana Taylor to its heralded line of celebrity representatives with the release of the adidas Originals GLC “Harlem”. The NYC native attended a special release event at the adidas store in the Galleria Mall in Houston, TX, going the extra mile to sign autographs and take photos long after she was scheduled to appear. Earlier in the day, adidas released the Harlem GLC, emptying its entire stock within minutes and rewarding those in attendance a special invite to meet and greet Teyana later in the day. She started off with a solo performance, but the atmosphere got a bit more festive when fellow G.O.O.D. Music mate Big Sean and Pusha T joined in for a quick live performance of the Grammy-nominated track “Mercy”. As devoted to her fans as she is to her music and fashion, Teyana made sure all her fans got the show they had waited for by meeting and greeting the crowd with hugs and autographs.
Sneaker News also got a chance to chat with Latoya Kamara of adidas Originals, who played a role in the creation of the “Harlem” concept of the GLC. The direct acknowledgement of the combination of luxury and street with the copper snakeskin upper is a rather obvious detail, but there’s a lot more to the design of Teyana’s GLC than you might expect; the ribcage heel-tab is designed with the idea of a 3-D element, while representing Teyana’s heart for music and her fans – the ribcage does in fact protect that vital organ. With the relative popularity of Jeremy Scott footwear decreasing last year, is it adidas’ new angle to call on today’s top pop-star/celebs to design special edition colorways? This idea goes back a few years with Snoop Dogg and more recently with the successful release of Big Sean’s “Detroit Player”, and the upcoming release of the adidas GLC “Harlem” by the town’s native Teyana Taylor is undoubtedly set to continue the hits by adidas and their celeb-driven collection. Teyana gives us a first preview at the box packaging for this release, which features the reptilian graphic on a classic adidas three-stripes box, so peep the full image below and stay tuned for the release of the Harlem GLC this February 16th.

Teyana Taylor has parlayed her sneaker fiend tendencies into a collaboration with the likes of adidas Originals. The result is the truly unique adidas Originals Harlem GLC, a sneaker that draws on her Uptown background for it fashion forward design. The back end is particularly interesting with its leather loop setup, which ends up looking like a more sensible version of Jeremy Scott’s wacky sneaker garnishes. It looks like the adidas rapper team ups are about to go two for two in a short span thanks to the Teyana Taylor x adidas Originals Harlem GLC. The sneaker aims to recreate the flash of her Uptown origins, with the model riffing off adidas’ Torsion Attitude silhouette and introducing a scaly bronze leather look. The Teyana Taylor x adidas Originals Harlem GLC (Good Luck Charm) will go live during 2013 NBA All-Star weekend, with a January pre-order available for fans who wanna lock their’s down ahead of the February 16th release date.
