adidas made one helluva move in the early-2000′s by nabbing Tracy McGrady right at the start of his superstar explosion in Orlando. While the potential for greatness was definitely visible when he was in Toronto, it was only when he was the true number-one guy that T-Mac mania took over the NBA. Of course his tenure in Orlando was highlighted more by individual accolades rather than team success (with Grant Hill gone and a frontcourt rotation of Andrew DeClerq, Michael Doleac, Bo Outlaw, and John Amaechi, what can ya do), but McGrady’s legitmacy as a ‘signature shoe’ guy was undoubtedly confirmed. adidas’ plans of re-releasing the original adidas T-Mac shoe has already begun, as Asian retailers have stocked the ‘All-Star’ colorway already, but check out the two more upcoming colorways in the detailed gallery below and let us know if you’ll be looking toward the new adidas T-Mac re-issues in the future. Is it true that at one point over the last decade, Tracy McGrady was the best player in the league? After leaving the shadow of his cousin Vince Carter by signing with the Orlando Magic (and never getting the opportunity to wreak consistent havoc with Grant Hill), T-Mac put up some insane all-around numbers that put him atop the league – perhaps above fellow SG extraordinaire Kobe Bryant. Orlando never reached much success as a team (how one drops 50 and still loses is a befuddlement that Tracy addressed in one of his adidas T-Mac advertisements), but as an individual, T-Mac’s run in Orlando and Houston has to be given its due props. His adidas signature line (particularly the adidas T-Mac 1)has been getting some exposure as of late, and that 2002 All-Star Sample we showed you a few days ago looks like its headed for a release, so peep the images below and we’ll let you know when these come to the States. The details surrounding the eventual retro release of the adidas T-Mac 1 are still fairly hazy, with no real word from the Three Stripes regarding which colorways will make their way to retail and when. With that being said we’ve got our eyes on a spicy sample that just may arrive in the group, a retro version of the adidas T-Mac 1 Tracy rocked at the NBA All-Star Game in Philly a decade back (check the liberty bell embroidery). Click through with us to take a look at the adidas T-Mac 1 ‘All-Star’ sample and stick with Sneaker News for word on whether or not these are indeed coming back around and let us know if you’d grab a pair if that were the case. The Olympic Games have served as a serviceable spotlight for athletic companies to show off their best products in each sport, and sometimes it can get quite ugly. Looking back to the ’92 Games when Nike and Reebok had their lengthy battle, it’s clear that companies were fighting for that medal podium spotlight. Here in 2012, Nike’s got the Olympics on lock, but that wasn’t the case before; along with Nike and Jordan, brands like adidas, Reebok, Converse (prior to the merger), and even Ewing joined the Olympic-inspired sneaker festivities, and a sneaker event out in Hong Kong called Kickoff Summer Fun showcased some of the best in history (bet you’ll be surprised at some of what’s found below). Enjoy this throwback gallery of red, white, and blue sneakers and let us know which is your personal favorite! Photos: kenlu

Nike Sportswear will remind us of Vince Carter’s best days when the Shox BB4 returns in colorways including the Fred Weis-posterizing ‘USAB’ edition; what about the cousin with whom VC once appeared poised to rule the NBA alongside? Fellow former Toronto standout Tracy McGrady had to escape from Vinsanity’s shadow (and the impact of his salary on the Raptors’ cap) and ended up as the main star in Orlando for a stretch in the early ’00s when Grant Hill’s role on the team became a mere formality. McGrady became an All-Star for the first time in his debut season with the Magic, and the adidas T-Mac commemorates that season that immediately preceded back-to-back scoring titles. It looks like we’ll get an O-Town colorup as well as one that alludes to T-Mac’s time in Houston; let us know which looks best when you’re checking out more shots on the other side. Photos: Hupu
