NIKE DUNK LOW WEEK
Nike Skateboarding is still going ten years strong, and perhaps the original Dunk Low Pro B deserves all the credit. Truth is, Nike has tried to elbow into the Skateboarding realm three times over the years, failing on the first two tries. It was only until the first official series of Nike SB in 2002 that it gained any steam, but in 1999, Nike had already released a similar variation of the Dunk Low that suited the needs of skaters. Going back to the 80′s, the Dunk and Air Jordan 1 were widely popular in the skating community, so why not make the Dunk into a skate shoe? The Pro B was born, built with durable suede uppers, gum outsoles for increased traction and board feel, and a fattened tongue for that added substance that skaters find useful in their shoes. Before Nike SB became ‘a thing’, the Nike Dunk Low Pro B was becoming a cult-hit of sorts, leading Nike to release more Pro B colorways in the following years at select retailers. Some of the Pro B releases carry as much weight as the earliest Nike SB releases, with the Smurfs owning the role as the ‘OG’ of the short-lived Dunk Low Pro B family.

Even though we’re in a time of unprecedented novelty and recombination, our culture is dependent upon consistency as a sign of any number of positive traits. That’s why you have a relatively recent partnership like the Undefeated x Converse for Foot Locker triumvirate opting for a tagline like ‘Born Not Made’, in reference to the fact that these long-established pillars of the sneaker community are a natural pairing. Their footwear collection is accordingly filled with classic silhouettes and timeless colorways, like the new quartet of UNDFTD x Converse Star Player, Auckland Racers and Dr. Js, and these latest drops are out now at Undefeated‘s web store and chapter locations.

Before they got all buddy-buddy with Converse, Undefeated had forged a tight connection with Puma, offering collaborative packs numbering in the double-digits with a special emphasis on the iconic Clyde. July’s previews show they’ll be back at it again with at least a couple more variations on tap, and now we see further proof that the springtime gap was just a lull while they get recharged for new ideas. The latest Puma x UNDFTD project is one leg of a trio of collabs authored by notable figures at three major Japanese retailers, the Puma Japan Suede Mid taking on a yellow/black build for Undefeated Tokyo’s Kazunori Yamada. Two sneaker stores round out the list as Magforlia’s Takaya Yamada goes with a Pan-African flag look while Shigeuki Kunii from mita sneakers looks to capitalize on the last days of summer. These are unlikely to arrive at US retailers, so have a closer look at more images below and let us know if you’ll try to import a pair or three.

The Air Jordan IV ‘UNDFTD’ was already one of the rarest and most sought after Air Jordan releases of all time regardless of any crazy alternate versions. Then things started getting really interesting, Gentry Humphrey recently reminded us of this unreleased sample that pours in a bit more black, a grail now being trumped by the likes of the pair pictured above. Along with the extra black on the midsole sectioning this version of the UNDFTD x Air Jordan IV features a vaguely grid patterned ballistic material coating the upper, pushing home the whole military theme. The owner puts them as a one of one, with no other samples created ever coming with this particular material selection. It seems like every time we see a new iteration of the ongoing UNDFTD x Puma project the team up pushes the boundaries of typical material selection just a bit more. They’ve already established themselves with unlimited suede versions, but recently we’ve seen snakeskin, ballistic nylon, and a gaudy gold pair shaking things up. Giving them perhaps the most contemporary look we’ve seen yet is the neoprene equipped pair that just popped up at Bread and Butter Berlin, with a sort of glowing yellow colorway that doesn’t put it too far off from the palette of current runners. Click through with us to check out this upcoming Puma Clyde curated by the UNDFTD fam and let us know if you’re feeling the modern approach. Photos: HS

UNDFTD and fragment design are two entities with a storied history of projects within the greater Nike INC umbrella. From Air Jordans to Converse to Swoosh proper, the two teams have pretty much done it all. As of late they’re forming like Voltron for some three-way action, as debuted with that blood red pair of Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars from a few months back. Next in line is a similarly solid look, a crispy all white that looks to carry the same bits of branding along the midsole foxing. Click through with us to check out this first preview and let us know if you’re looking forward to the all white UNDFTD x fragment design x Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star. As always, stick with Sneaker News for a solid release date. via Honeyee

NIKE DUNK HIGH WEEK
We started with Air Foamposite One and continued to the Air Max 1. For the third week, we’re focusing on another sneaker model that deserves a lot of credit for bringing the ‘sneaker’ to the level of stardom it experiences today – the Nike Dunk High of 1986. The Dunk High, considered to be the a sibling of sorts to the Nike Terminator, is one of the earliest Nike Basketball sneakers to debut in a wide variety of colorful editions, kicking things off with the ‘Be True To Your School’ releases. Since then, the Dunk has been viewed as a cult model and the legend was reborn in ’98-’99 when the Dunk returned in larger droves in the ‘School’ Pack, the Japan-exclusive ‘City Attack’ Series, and a few other releases. Since then, the Dunk became an astounding hit and its prized status only strengthened thanks to the many iconic releases of the early 2000′s, the Dunk High’s inclusion of the budding Nike SB series, and a slew of other ’general’ releases that are cherished today. To kick of Nike Dunk High Week, we’ll focus on a label that is recognized as one of the best to ever collaborate with Nike – West Coast-based Undefeated.
In 2005, Undefeated teamed up with Nike on the Dunk High in the slimmer ‘NL’ form; the Dunk NL stood for ‘No Liner’, which featured a interior stripped of its thick padding to achieve a sleeker profile (a precursor to the current ‘Deconstruct’ Dunk Highs). UNDFTD’s uninhibited use of bright colors was matched perfectly with the supreme materials on the shoe, which feature a high-quality brown leather on the toe, the wine-colored heel, and the calf-skin leather used on the toe-box and tongue. This 2005 masterpiece was a Tier 0 release and limited to just 5,000 units worldwide, and surely stands as a definitive ‘Dunk’ of our time – rife with colorways and materials and seamlessly adapting the ‘NL’ construction without shedding the Dunk’s original heritage of basketball sport. Peep this classic Nike Dunk High and below and brace yourself for another week of all-time greats here on Classics Revisited!
