What started in March 2011 as a heartwarming piece of Sneaker News has become an annual tradition as Vans readies for the 2013 Custom Culture contest. The winning school of this competition whose registration ends February 11th will earn the same prize that Rio Rancho High School won last year: a $50,000 grand prize and retail distribution on their winning designs. The New Mexico school won by adding local inspiration to their designs, and you can see the Rio Rancho x Vans Sk8-Hi, Authentic, Slip-On and 106 Vulc slated for a March release after the jump below.

Adding a fleece sockliner is a quick way to make any sneaker feel warmer in time for winter, and Vans knows this from experience. Plenty of Off the Wall silhouettes have been treated to fleece fillings, and two more take the plunge this winter, joining a few other water-resistant pig suede styles as part of the Vans Classics ‘Cold Weather’ pack. The Vans Era and Mid Skool ’77 get the fuzzy treatment while the 106 Vulc and Switchback opt for a more traditional build that still has the same moisture-repellent properties. Let us know which style works best after you’ve seen them all below, then grab yours straight from Vans.

Camouflage on sneakers isn’t usually intended to conceal anything, and in this case, it’s only going to draw extra attention to the premium leathers in use on the latest Vans collaboration. Teaming up once again with Chicago’s Horween Leather, Off the Wall authors another chapter for the Vans Vault whose central theme is an autumn forest. There’s a native subtext as well thanks to the zig-zag stitching on the moc toes of the Horween x Vans Vault Piragua and 106 Moc, along with a similar style on the Sk8-Mid’s Jazz stripes. These are now available at select Vans retailers like Kith and you can see all three pairs up close after the jump.

Vans just released a pack of classics blessed with Barbour’s beloved British waterproofing, and because it’s always good to have a friend on board when you’re readying for a big project, Off the Wall gives us another set ready to conquer the winter weather. This time it’s the former Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, most famous ’round these parts for their reflective materials, who contribute the famed Scotchguard technology to a trio of lowtop chukkas. The Vans California 106 Water Resistant pack relies upon 3M technology to beat the weatherman and add to the rugged vibe with trail-ish laces, but keep it Cali cool with three simple pigskin nubuck styles you can see in more photos below and at select retailers soon.

The Horween Leather x Vans Vault collection that launched last month was everything you’d expect from those brands: premium quality and timeless Califorinia cool on a couple of established designs plus one new one. Their second pairing pushes the boundaries with three relatively uncommon silos and a totally unique material that’ll fool you like any good camouflage is supposed to. The Horween x Vans Vault ‘Brushed Camo’ pack brings back the Vans Piragua we’ve only seen in these collaborations, along with another 106 Moc and the rarely seen Sk8-Mid, all in a camo-stained leather the likes of which nobody else has even tried. Have a closer look after the jump and expect these at Vans Vault retailers for the fourth quarter.

Vans California just issued a ’2-Tone’ pack of Deconstructed Era lowtops, but when you consider their output over the years, that’s a name that could have been applied to countless releases. It’s the same deal with this new ’3-Tone’ trio, though you do get the sense that these pairs are united, even while spread across two different silhouettes differing on key details. The Vans Era and 106 utilize similarly simple palettes, but the former goes for suede and ticked ‘nautical’ laces while the latter opts for an all-canvas build and traditional flat laces. These are available now wherever Vans Classics are sold, so have a closer look and let us know which pair catches your eye.

Vans has become the world’s leading skateboarding brand thanks in part to a huge variety of styles, so many in fact, that Off the Wall commands two different variations of the lowtop chukka style it’s helped to make a modern standard. In recent years, we’ve seen the Vans 106 release with increased frequency, and now this new pack for fall features three pairs that might represent the best set yet. These suede 106 Vulc lowtops have an upscale look thanks to caramel tongues and pristine white soles and you can click through to see more of the Tawny Port, Dress Blue and Charcoal Grey editions after the jump below. via FNG

The Shadow Conspiracy‘s first collaboration with Vans last year was so successful that not only did Cult Crew follow suit with a similar set, but there’s also going to be a TSC sequel. This new pack celebrates the brand’s 10th anniversary with black leather and waxed canvas plus gum-soled styles for The Shadow Conspiracy x Vans Sk8-Mid and 106 lowtop. These premium leather-lined designs don’t have any BMX gear attached like last time, but there will be tees and hats to match the anniversary dual-branding, and the entire capsule will only sell at Dan’s Comp. Check out more photos below, let us know how these compare to the first TSC x Vans collabo and stick with Sneaker News for the release date.
