This current wave of printed designs has taken advantage of improvements in material fabrication to achieve the most precise prints ever, but most never push it past unique color gradients applied to traditional feline looks. This new pack of Vans Authentics from the California collection reminds us that there are ‘organic’ prints never even considered before can be mastered now, offering a wholly novel avian approach that suggests Kenzo’s ‘Grape’ look only scratched the surface. Stick with Sneaker News to see how far this trend goes and we’ll let you know when they arrive at retailers as part of the FW12 catalog. via HS

The original name for flecked woven Scottish fabrics was intended to be ‘tweel’, but a London merchant who misread the promo materials (a handwritten letter), started selling the stuff as ‘tweed’ after a nearby river. There’s no such confusion as to who is the world’s leading supplier, though, as The Harris Tweed Authority has stamped their signature orb on some of the world’s finest loomwork since 1911. They’ve been doing quite a few sneaker collaborations on this side of that century of service, including teamups with brands like Nike Sportswear, Converse, A Bathing Ape, and now a brand who’s done plenty of their own woolen designs in recent years. The Beauty & Youth x Vans ‘Harris Tweed’ Pack features one pair each of the Authentic and Slip-On lowtops, each offering its own take on asymmetrical placement of the signature herringbones and houndstooths. These are expected in stores later this month, so be sure to check back with Sneaker News after you’ve had a chance to see them in detail below.

Paris’ Kenzo has come through with some of the more unique prints we’ve seen all season, including everything from lizard scales and dress shirt stripes to flowers and grapes, all taken from this year’s runway styles. The latest push patterns to another new level, as we see marble applied in two different ways in addition to a moth print that might have you guessing it’s just another feline print. The Kenzo x Vans Slip-On gets black marble for men and white for women, with these switched for the ’tiled’ Authentics. Both ‘Moth’ Authentics are done in mens sizes but just as versatile as any cheetah or leopard print in those colors, and all six are available now from select retailers like Hunting and Collecting.

Even as all the major brands expand their digitally-precise new synthetic designs, Vans continues to lead the way with patterned prints at a time when they’re more popular than ever. The latest Vans Authentics for women prove that you don’t need a computer-driven fabrication process to create eye-catching kicks, as a black-on-pink zebra striped canvas lowtop is both as simple a build and as neck-breaking as they get. This pair is reminiscent of last May’s Supreme Eras but with some extra visual punch to make up for the co-sign and ankle padding, and you can grab a pair today from Kicks-crew.

Vans is doing the grape thing now? Are we to expect a set of skate sneakers with shark teeth along the sole and a 3M tongue? No, calm yourself, the collection shown is instead another from their team up with Kenzo, wherein the grape inspiration is taken quite literally and manifested in the form of a leafy print on the Vans Authentic silo. Click through with us to see both sneakers from the set and be on the lookout for them soon at retailers like Opening Ceremony. Also, stick with Sneaker News on the off chance that we spot a ‘Concord’ style Vans release.

Combining a healthy dose of ‘playful’ with the rainbow gradient and ‘fierce’ with the tonal leopard print, Vans gives its iconic Authentic model an incredible upgrade with its Rainbow Leopard colorway. Each piece of the upper adapts the multi-colored rainbow colorization with black leopard-print around the entire shoe – perfect for those who feel classic leopard print simply isn’t “loud” enough. These have begun to pop up at select Vans retailers like Europe’s Shelta, so check out the gallery of images below and let us know what you think of the colorway.

Hawaii is known for its beautiful hula girls, volatile volcanoes and postcard beaches, but did you know about the 50th state’s famed cowboys? Also known as paniolos, the Hawaiian cowboys trace their roots to the Mexican vaqueros just like the mainland American cattle rustlers, so are on the leading edge of a western-based trend that might replicate itself ‘Over and Over’ like the livestock brought over by General Vancouver? We’ll hold off on proclaiming the era of the countrified hybrid, but it’s hard not to see the potential for similar themes once you’ve noticed how well the Kicks/HI x Vans Vault Authentic LX turned out. The distinctive blend of premium leather and blue chambray already moved quickly from the store’s brick and mortar locations, and now a scant 24 pairs is available from the Kicks/HI online store.
