On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, Steve Caballero’s legendary midtop signature silo was treated to a number of special collaborative releases and the updated style pictured above. You wouldn’t typically think of a pair of scissors being the only tool necessary to create an all-time classic sneaker design, but that’s the case for the Vans Half Cab, a model that improved upon the original Steve Caballero signature three years in and has remain untouched ever since. It took two decades before Off the Wall even attempted a fresh take on the Half Cab and now as the XX Anniversary celebration comes to a close, we’re ready for the silhouette’s next generation. The Vans Cab Lite builds on the momentum of what Vans themselves call “the greatest skate shoe of all time”, launching with a November 9th meet and greet also featuring longtime OTW rider and Syndicate contributor Christian Hosoi, at London’s Slam City Skates. The party might be a tough ticket for those outside the UK, but since today is the official release date, you can already get the Cab Lite from Slam City.

Vans has offered a huge variety of themed Sk8-His over the past few years, they’ve come through with countless colorways on the classic lowtops and the success of the upscale Vault line has given rise to new collections like OTW and LXVI. But never in its twenty years has Off the Wall so significantly altered Steve Caballero’s signature midtop. A step beyond Cab’s hand-scissored 20th anniversary redux, the Vans Cab Lite gives us a stripped-down silhouette revision with just two lines of stitching in lieu of the OG’s unique ankle tags. This fresh look is more breathable and features a stronger outsole, and a trio of tonal suede and canvas combos suggest these are worth a second look when they arrive at select retailers this holiday season. via EUkicks
